The paternal grandfather, William Simpson, was born in the north of Ireland and located in Ontario at an early day, making the trip across the ocean in an old sailing vessel, and coming to Ontario by way of the St. Lawrence and Ottawa rivers. He was active in the building of the Rideau canal locks at Ottawa. When he came to Canada the present prosperous community of Ottawa consisted of but a few log houses, known as Bytown. He was a true pioneer of the country and he homesteaded land which was nothing but woods. To him fell the laborious task of clearing it and in due time he had one of the finest farms in the district, and resided thereon until his demise.

?b?MRS. MARY BUTLER DIES AT BLADWORTH.
BLADWORTH ?/b?- Death claimed one of Bladworth's earliest settlers and the oldest resident, Oct. 3, when Mrs. Mary Butler, widow of the late J. P. Butler, died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. William Conlin of Knob Hill district. A few days ago Mrs. Butler suffered a slight accident, injuring two ribs. Mrs. Butler was 91 year of age last March and up to the time of her accident was very active with complete use of all her faculties. She often came to town with her daughter, Mrs, Conlin, and enjoyed visiting her many friends and attending the various meetings and community gatherings.
Mrs. Butler's maiden name was Mary Lyons, and she was born in Carleton county, Ontario, coming west with her husband in 1907 from Renfrew, Ont, and a family of 12 children. Mr. Butler predeceased her in 1933.
Six sons and four daughters are left to mourn her. Hilliard of Moose Jaw, George E. and Norman E., both of Bladworth; Sam of Renfrew, Ont.; Hawley of Calgary, Alta.; Harvey of Fort Qu 'Appelle; Mrs. John Baird of Moose Jaw, Mrs. John Conlin of Moose Jaw, Mrs. D. A. MacDonald, Winnipeg; Mrs. Wm. Conlin, Bladworth. Two daughters, Gertrude (Mrs James Smlth, Saskatoon), died in 1919, and Maud In 1889. A son, John, died at Winnipeg in 1937 and two other sons, Clarence and Howard, died in Infancy, making a total of 15 children. There are 30 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Bladworth United church with Rev. W. McWhinney officiating.

Soon after the turn of the century, they moved across the border to Manitoba. Eliza died at age 83 after contacting bronchitis, which proved too much for her advanced age. She had been living with her son William since her husband's death in 1904. At the time of her death, Eliza was the grandmother of 41 and the great-grandmother of 51.

It becomes our unpleasant duty this week to record the
death of an esteemed and popular lady of this town, in the
person of Sarah J. Campbell, wife of Mr John Carnochan,
of the C.P.R., after a short illness from puerperal fever.
Deceased (who was a daughter of Mrs Donald Campbell)
was but 27 years of age, and had been married less than a
year. Two weeks ago she gave birth to a son, and was
progressing most favourably for several days afterwards,
when the dreaded fever made its presence known. Medical
skill and the closest attention were used in vain to avert a
fatal result, and on Wednesday evening the young life went
out to its Creator. The unusually sad circumstances
surrounding the melancholy event have evoked for the
afflicted husband and mourning relatives the deep
sympathy, not only of their immediate circle of friends, but

?/b?Was Former Well known Manufacturer of Almonte. People of Almonte and the surrounding district were exceedingly sorry to learn of the death of Mr Peter J. Campbell which occurred at his home in Almonte on Sunday night. He had been in failing health for some time but was able to go about and meet his friends until two weeks before the end when he took a bad turn which confined him to bed. Born in the township of Beckwith, Mr Campbell was in his 67th year. He was married 35 years ago to Miss Flora McDonald who survives him. Mr Campbell was by disposition kindly and public spirited, and took a leading part in all the activities that led to the welfare of the town. He was a member of the Electric Light Commission for several terms and was for some years a director of the North Lanark Agricultural Society. Prominent in business affairs, he owned and successfully conducted a woollen mill at Blakeney, for a number of years and in 1918, moved his plant, known as the Campbell Woollen Company, to Almonte, where it became one of the important textile industries of the town. He was also a director in the Yorkshire Wool Stock Mills Ltd., of Almonte, and for some years its president and general manager. Owing to failing health during the past two years he retired from business activities. The deceased was a lover of music and for some years took part and was manager of the choir of Bethany United Church of which church he was a member. In addition to other kindly qualities Mr Campbell was possessed of a good sense of humour which, coupled with his knowledge of Almonte's history, made him and interesting conversationalist. In his declining years he was fond of a chat with his friends and was such a familiar figure in the town that he will be greatly missed by those who were accustomed to meet him daily. Besides his widow he is survived by one daughter, Agnes and one son, Donald M., both at home, and four sisters, Mrs John Carnochan, Ottawa; Mrs Robert Forgie, Ottawa; Mrs Adam Curry, Winnipeg, and Mrs Andrew Cochrane, Edmonton, Alta., and one brother, John of Windsor, Ontario. Attended by a large and representative gathering of citizens and many from surrounding town and district, the funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the family residence, Elgin Street to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon of Bethany United Church, assisted by Rev Wm Aird of the Baptist Church. Testimony to the esteem in which the late Mr Campbell was held was seen in the many beautiful floral tributes as well as the large number of sorrowing friends, who gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased. The pallbearers were ? W.H. Stafford, K.C., W.C. Pollock, Dr. J.K. Kelly, A.C. Wylie, D.B. Taylor and Dr. E.F. McGregor. Relatives in attendance from out of town were ? ?/b?Word has been received here of the death in Edmonton, alberta, of Dr. W. J. Simpson. A native of Ashton, Ontario, Dr. Simpson died on Thursday following a long illness.
A graduate in medicine from Queen's University, Dr. Simpson had taught school in Richmond and Munster, Ontario. Following has graduation he moved to Alberta where he practiced. He was married to the former Hattie Hill, who predeceased him several years ago. He is survived by two daughters and a son who reside in the west.
Also surviveing are three sisters, Mrs. C. B. Morton and Mrs. M Archie Atkinson of Ottawa, and Mrs John Fleming of Ashton; three brothers, Fred, of Milton West, Ont., Murray and Lett Simpson, who reside in the West.

The late Mr. Butler was born in Renfrew, Ontario. In 1907 he came west to Bladworth, Saskatchewan where he married Janet (nee McBroom) in 1916 and they farmed In the Knob Hill district until 1956 when they moved to the town of Bladworth. Mr. and Mrs. Butler retired in 1977 and came to Saskatoon where he had since resided. Mr. Butler formed the Valley View Rural Telephone Co., being Secretary from 1911 until the dissolution of the company In 1977. Mr. Butler also served as Secretary of the Knob Hill School District for many years and was an Honorary Life Member of the Davidson Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was active In various community affairs as well as being involved in political and civic affairs and had a keen interest In addition to participating in various sports. Memorial donations may be made to the Grace-Westminster United Church Memorial Fund. The Honorary Pallbearers will be: Roy Palmer, Gordon Palmer, Merril Palmer, Elmer McCreary, Joe Brkich, Hector Nordquist, Lome McCreary, Sterling Hubbs, Jack Ames, Gordon Bessey, Joe Udycz and Harold Barlow. Pioneer Munich Woman Dies Saturday - Mrs. Mary Jane Coffey Rites At Munich Tuesday, Interment At Emerado
Mrs. Mary Jane Coffey, a pioneer resident of the Munich community, passed away Saturday, January 3, 1942, at her home in Munich after an illness of more than three weeks with a heart ailment.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Zion Lutheran church at Munich with Rev. Thomas B. Lindsay of Langdon in charge. Interment was in the family plot in the cemetery at Emerado, beside the remains of Mr. Coffey. A quartet composed of Isaac Hoffman, H. J. Dick. H. F. Dick, and W. S. Janzen sang "Christian's Home in Glory" and "Rest in Jordon." Mrs. J. H. Bain of Langdon was at the organ.
Mary Jane, daughter of William and Eliza Sykes, was born August 12, 1867, at Ashton, Ont. She came to Grand Forks county with her parents in 1878 and was married at Grand Forks in 1882 to Hugh John Coffey. The couple first farmed six miles west of Osnabrock, and in 1887 moved back to Grand Forks county, where they farmed until 1904 when they moved to the new town of Munich to operate a hotel. Mr. Coffey passed away October 12, 1939.
Eight children were born to the couple and four survive. They are Mrs. J. H. Watters of Nashua, Mont.; Mrs. C. E. Render of Hannah; and John H. and William E. Coffey of Munich. Fourteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Steve Caul of Cartwright, Man.; and Mrs. George Batson of Conklin, Mich.; are sisters who survive and William Sykes of Cartwright is a brother who survives.
The family was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, and Mrs. Coffey was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were her daughter, Mrs. Watters of Nashua, Mont.; and Mrs. Render of Hannah; Rose Hamilton of Colorado Springs Colo.; and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hamilton, Mrs. F. E. Hawley, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Nickeson, and Mrs. J. H. Bain of Langdon.

Born in Ashton, Ont., he came to Calgary 36 years ago, and had resided here since. Mr. McKittrick had been employed by the C.P.R. as a passenger train conductor, where he became well known throughout the province. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. of Calgary, and also a member of the Brotherhood of Railway conductors.
Surviving are three sons, Lyle and Harold, of Turner Valley, and Ross, with the R.C.N.V.R., Prince Rupert, B.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Himmelman, of Napanee, Ont., and Miss Helen McKittrick, of Calgary; his mother, Mrs. H. J. McKittrick, of 2718 Montcalm Cres., Calgary; two sisters, Mrs. M. R. Chapell, of Sydney, N.S., and Mrs. William E. Gray, of Calgary; three brothers, J. G. McKittrick of Calgary, S. A., of Portland, Ore., and W. N., of Wells, B.C., and four grandchildren.

Mr. McKittrick was born in Ashton, On., and came to Calgary in 1909. He joined the C.P.R. at Carleton Place, Ont., 40 years ago and was a conductor running out of Calgary and Wilkie, Sask., for many years.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors and the United Church.
Surviving are two brothers, S. Arthur, Portland, Ore.; William N., Wells, B.C.; two sisters, Mrs. William E. Gray, Calgary, and Mrs. M. R. Chappell, Sydney, N.S.
A brother, Frederick, died in April, 1943, in Calgary.
