Information from Jyne Munro Ouimet 10 May 2018: I have no further information on Alexander T (Thomas) Munro and his wife, I have located records that Donald had at least 3 brothers. William,Hugh and Alexander (we are currently researching to see if this Alexander was the man who settled near Carp and had a son named Donald.

In 1830, he emigrated with his parents, and settled in the township of Lanark, where he lived until 1844, when he married Marion McKay and moved to the farm where he died 67 years later. Mrs. Munro died 36 years ago. He leaves 3 sons and 1 daughter; John Munro, of Dungannon, Ontario, Alex T. and Hugh Munro of Darling, and Mrs. John Shane of Warren, Ontario. "Once again, death, the Grim Reaper has passed our way and removed from this life on the last of the early pioneers of this district in the person of John Munro, a resident of Turriff. Born at Hall's Mills, Lanark County on Sept 3, 1850, a son of the late John Munro and Marion McKay, who immigrated from Dornoch, Sutherlandshire during the Scottish Clearances, he was one of a family of seven all of whom have predeceased him.

In the early summer of 1879 he came to Dungannon Township where he located on what was then called the second concession.

On February 24th, 1880, he married Mary Turriff, second daughter of John Turriff who was the first settler and for whom the settlement was later named.

Mrs. Munro passed away nine years ago. One daughter Mrs. A.W. Munro died ten years ago, while another, Mary died in infancy. Six children survive. John of Detlor, Alex. Daniel and Mrs. W.J. McCaw of Bancroft, Peter and Mrs. H.L. Black of Turriff, with whom he has spent, on the homestead, the last six years.

On Sunday morning, July 12th, he suffered a stroke, shortly after sinking into an unconscious condition, from which he never recovered, passing quietly away Wednesday afternoon.

In religion, a life long member of the Presbyterian faith, he was laid to rest in the cemetery at L'Amable beside his wife and daughter on Thursday afternoon. Mr. F. Wicks conducted the service at the home and church, while members of the Bancroft Masonic Lodge conducted a committal service."

Mrs. Evans was formerly Catharine McMunn, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McMunn. pioneers of this district. She was born 83 years ago. She married William Evans 53 years ago. They resided in Carleton Place. About 30 years ago Mr. Evans passed away and for a number of years she resided with her sister, Mrs. Alex McKay, until 13 years ago she moved Into the village. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. N. Gardiner; one granddaughter, Muriel Gardiner, both of Windsor, Ont. The pall-bearers were: Harvey Scott. James Scott, Robert Giles, Findlay Gordon, Harold Prescott and Roy Evans.

The passing of Mrs David Clark on Wednesday, January 28 will be noted with regret by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances throughout the district. She was in her 78th year. The deceased was Margaret Munro, a duaghter of the late Mr and Mrs Hugh Munro and was born at Halls Mills, coming to Almonte while quite a young girl. She was married to David Clark and for over 50 years resided in the town of Almonte where, by her kindley disposition and many noble qualities she won for herself a very wide cirle of friends. She is survived by her husband, 2 sons and 2 daughters all of whom were present at the funeral on Friday, January 30 to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mr Hugh Clark of Cardross, Saskatchewan, Mr Bert Clark of the Civil Service, Ottawa, Mrs Charles Comba, of Toronto, Miss Hattie Clark of Edwards, Ontario together with the husband who are left to mourn her loss. She also leaves five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The late Mrs Clark had been in poor health for several years but was only confined to her bed during the last four weeks. Alife long member of Trinity Church, the funeral which was largely attended, was conducted by Rev A.J. Terrill, who paid tribute to the long and useful life of the departed. The pallbearers were her two sons, Hugh and Bert Clark; Mr John Kearney, a nephew; Robert Munro, a brother; Mr C Comba, a son-in-law and Mr Allan Comba, a grandson. Those attending the funeral from a distance wer: Hugh Clark of Cardross, Saskatchewan; Mr Bert Clark of Ottawa; Miss Hattie clark of Edwards; Mrs A.W. Dunley, nee Gladys Comba of Stratford, Ontario; and Mr and Mrs C Comba of Toronto.

?b?JOHNSON?/b?, Mrs. Adam - Passes away in her 98th year. One of Almonte's eldest residents, Mrs. Mary Catherine Munro Johnson, passed away at the Almonte General Hospital early Sunday morning. August the 2nd, 1970. Born in Lanark Township January the 3rd, 1872, she was a daughter of Daniel Monro and his wife, Margaret McMunn. She was the last surviving of a family of 12. She was married to Mr. Adam Johnson on March the 13th, 1894. Mr. Johnson predeceased his wife in 1945, and a son Dr. Willard E. Johnson, died at an early age in 1933. Surviving are three daughters, Gertrude (Mrs. William Colborne) , Miss Margaret Johnson of Almonte and Isabel (Mrs. R. G. Whitelaw of London, Ontario. Also, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral service was held at the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, on Tuesday August the 4th, at 2:00 p.m. and was conducted by Rev. Morris of Almonte United Church. Burial was made at the Auld Kirk cemetery, Almonte, Ontario.

Mrs John F. Gordon
Mrs Jno F. Gordon, a much esteemed resident of Ramsay township. passed peacefully away at her home on Tuesday, Dec 4th, at the age of 71 years. Her maiden name was Margaret Ann Evans, the eldest daughter of Wm Evans and Betsy Munro of Clayton. While quite young she became the wife of Adonijah Giles, who died in 1882. To them four children were born, Reuben of Blakeney; Robert W. of Almonte. Adonijah and Elizabeth A., Mrs Jacob Price of Sonningdale, Sask. The latter two predeceased her in 1916 and 1918 respectively. Some years later she married Jno F. Gordon, and this union was blessed with six children: Margaret, Mrs Tom Cavanagh, and Minnie, Mrs W.J. Elliott, of Sonningdale, Sask; William, 3rd line Ramsay; Eva, teacher in Crichton School, Ottawa; Findlay and Ada at home, All of these, with their father survive. The funeral service was conducted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon of Bethany United Church, Almonte and was held on Thursday, Dev 6th, at 2 o'clock to the Auld Kirk cemetery. During the service Mrs J. Reilly and Mrs Clarence Kellough, by request, sang sweetly, "On Calvary's Brow." The pallbearers were Messrs George Robertson, Angus Sutherland, P.Y. ?/i?The death occured early Sunday morning, August 6th, of a well-known resident of Almonte, Mrs. William H. Scott, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Coxford. She was in her 81st. year.

Mrs Scott was born at Clayton, a daughter of the late William Evans and his wife Betsy Munro. Fifty-eight years ago she married William H. Scott, who predeceased here eight years ago. Mrs. Scott had resided in Almonte for over 40 years. In religion she was Presbyterian. Following her husbands death she resided with her daughter.

Of a family of eight, six survive, three daughters and three sons, Mrs. Herbert Coxford, Almonte; Mrs. Frank Snow, Fort William; Mrs George Vaniderstine, Moose Jaw; Harvey and James Scott, Almonte; and Alston of Melville, Saskatchewan. Three sisters and one brother also survive, Mrs. Geo. Pretty, Darling; Mrs Ida Prescott, Smiths Falls; Mrs Mort Young, Regina, Sask, and Abraham Evans of Clayton.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Coxford. The pallbearers were Roy Robertson, Harold Prescott, Roy Evans, Ernest Robertson, Findlay Gordon and Wm. Pretty. Interment was in the Auld Kirk cemetery.

The death occurred in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital, Almonte on Tuesday, Aug. 30th of Mrs. Joseph (Margaret Jennett Munro) H. Symington following a short illness. She was 81. Born in Darling Township, she received her education there and in 1903 married Joseph H. Symington, a Ramsay Township farmer and former Reeve of Ramsay. Mrs. Symington was an active church worker in St. Paul's Anglican Church. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary and the Ladies' Guild. Besides her husband, she leaves three sons and two daughters, Milton and Alex of Arnprior; Chas. of Almonte; Mrs. Everton McIntyre of Saskatoon; Mrs. Cecil Mclntyre of Almonte, also one brother, Alex Munro of Galbraith, 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The body was at the Kerry-Scott Funeral Home until Friday when the funeral service was conducted at St. Paul's Anglican Church by Rev. Canon J. W. R. Meakin. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. Allan, Donald, Claire and Wayne Symington, William Dean and Lorne Bretzlaff.

? The death of the late Mrs James Stewart, on Wednesday last, removes one who will be sadly missed, both in the home and the church. Mrs Stewart was the second daughter of Mr and Mrs Daniel Munroe of Clayton, and leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and four little boys, the youngest about fourteen months old. Besides these are the parents, Mr and Mrs Daniel Munroe, and six brothers and one sister ? John of Lanark, Margaret (Mrs A. McNeil) of Naseby, Sask, Hugh of Hopetown, David of Clayton, Wm of Darling, Robert on the homestead, Lanark, and Charles of Clayton. The funeral on Saturday was the largest seen here for some time. The service was conducted at the house and vault by Rev Mr Merrilees, pastor of the deceased. The remains were placed in the vault, The six brothers acted as pallbearers. The sympathy of the whole community goes out to the bereaved ones their sore trial.

Died:
The death of Mrs Elizabeth Comba, wife of Charles C. Comba, occurred at the Bethesda Hospital, Toronto, Thursday, December 5th after an illness of over a year. Mrs Comba, daughter of the late Margaret Munro and David Clark, was born in Almonte and received her education here. After her marriage to Charles Comba they lived in Almonte until 1921, when they moved to Toronto where they reside until her death. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Almonte and took an active part in church work. In Toronto, she was a member of St Clair Avenue United Church and of the Women's Association. She was an active member of the Well's Hill Lawn Bowling Club until her recent sickness. Mrs Comba leaves, besides her husband a daughter, Gladys, Mrs A.W. Dunkley, and a son, Allan, both of Toronto. Her other son, Keith, of Stratford, Ont, predeceased her by six months. She also leaves a sister, Hattie Clark of Almonte, and three grandchildren. A funeral service was held in Toronto on Saturday, December 7 after which the remains were brought to Almonte to the Comba Funeral Home, where a service was held on Monday, Dec 9th. Burial took place in the Auld Kirk cemetery.
