    Mr Thomas Cavers
    The oldest resident in this vicinity was called away by death on Sunday evening, in the person of Mr Thos Cavers of the 12th line of Ramsay. Mr Cavers was in his 85th year. He had been ill about two weeks and had been ministered to with loving care by his daughter, Miss Margaret Cavers R.N. Mr Caver was born in Beckwith on the farm now owned by Mr Orville Turner. A Liberal in politics, Presbyterian in religion until the union, wen he entered the United Church in Appleton. He was very much respected by his friends and neighbours for his kindly, gentle nature and his upright honourable conduct in all things. He is survived by his daughter, Miss Margaret Cavers R.N. and three sons, Edgar on the home farm, Willie, a dispatcher on the C.P.R., near Sudbury, and James in Carleton Place. Five brothers and three sisters also survive. The brothers are James of Hamilton, Peter of Detroit, William of Arnprior, Edward of Pilot Mound, and Alexander of Carleton Place. The sisters are Mrs Jane Fummerton, Mrs Lester of Ottawa and Miss Tena of Carleton Place. Two daughters Mary and Jean, and two sons predeceased him. The funeral on Tuesday was under the auspices of the United Church, conducted by Rev Terrill, his minister, to the 8th line cemetery. Mr William Cavers of Arnprior came for the funeral, also Mr Wm Cavers Jr., C.P.R. dispatcher and wife and child were among the mourners.

    CAVERS, Margaret, A.B. ? In hospital, on Monday, May 20th, 1974, Margaret Cavers, R.N., of Almonte. Beloved daughter of the late Thomas Cavers and his wife, the late Ann Forgie. In her 99th year.     Margaret Cavers
    Miss Margaret Cavers, a retired registered nurse, passed away at the Almonte Nursing Home, on Monday, May 20th, 1974, following a lengthy illness. She was in her 99th year. Born in Almonte, on September 22, 1875, the late Miss Cavers was a daughter of Thomas Cavers and his wife, Ann Forgie. She received her education in Almonte schools, and took her nurse's training at a Cleveland, Ohio, hospital. She was employed as a special nurse in Cleveland hospitals. In Almonte she was a member of Almonte Presbyterian Church. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, 127 Church street, on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, with Rev Douglas McQuaig officiating. Burial was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were elders of the church, Ernie Giles, George Lowry, Roy Van der Meer and Harry Fuller.

    THOMAS EDGAR CAVERS
    The funeral of Thomas Edgar Cavers took place December 26th from the Fleming Bros. Funeral Home, Lake Ave. West, Carleton Place to the United Cemetery for interment. Rev. J. Ray Anderson of Almonte conducted the service. Mr. Cavers died in the R. M. Hospital, Almonte, on December 23 after a short illness. He was 74 years of age and was born February 9th, 1882 in Ramsay Township, son of the late Thomas Cavers and his wife, Margaret Miller Thom. He had farmed for years in Ramsay and attended Appleton United Church. He was married in June, 1915, to the former Bessie May McNab. Surviving besides his widow are two sons, Harold of Toronto; Melville of Almonte, a daughter (Agnes), Mrs. Tudor of Perth, a brother, James of Carleton Place and a half sister, Miss Margaret Cavers of Almonte. The pallbearers were Messrs. Ollie Stewart, Victor Kellough, Duncan Stewart, Stewart Cavers, John Lowe and Edward Lowe. Among the beautiful floral tributes were pieces from Almonte Legion, Weaving Room of Collie's mill, Appleton W.I.. Appleton W.A

    Much sympathy is expressed for Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Cavers on account of the death of their little daughter, Jean, about seven years old, who died on Thursday last after a few days' illness.     Warrant Officer Class II Cavers was one of six airmen killed in the crash and resulting explosion of Hudson (#BW 620) aircraft at the aerodrome in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; the Hudson, with four airmen aboard, had just taken off on an operational patrol. Besides the four crew members, two of the five ground crew members who attempted to assist, also perished in this accident.
    The four aircrew members were:-
    Sergeant Alexander John BAILLIE,
    Warrant Officer Class II Robert Franklin CAVERS,
    Warrant Officer Class II Mervin Elwood TARRANT and
    Flying Officer Charles Leroy TRIPP.
    The two ground aircrew members were:-
    Leading Aircraftman Lloyd Edward BRIGGS and
    Aircraftman 1st Class Frank HALLEK.

    Warrant Officer Class II Robert Franklin Cavers is commemorated on Page 145 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.

    Melville (Mel) Charles Cavers
    A retired textile worker and veteran of World War II, Melville Charles Cavers at his home at the age of 78 years on May 25, 2001. The son of Thomas Edgar Cavers and Bessie (McNabb) Cavers, Mr. Cavers was born in Almonte on July 23, 1922 and was educated in Appleton at Ramsay SS#12 school. In addition to his work and World War II service, Mr. Cavers was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 in Almonte, and a lifetime resident of this area. He is survived by sister Agnes Tudor of Toronto and her children Sharon, Robert (Patricia), and Stephen (Mary Ann); sister-in-law. Barbara Cavers (Harold) and her son Glen (Julie); and great-nieces and great-nephews David, Stephanie, Melissa, Steven, Laura, Greg and Kyle. Mr. Cavers was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Frank and Harold. He was also a close friend of Queenie Barr and her family. Funeral services took place at the chapel of the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home in Almonte on May 28 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ken Robinson officiating. Pallbearers were Delbert Barr. Shaun Barr, Brad Barr. Jack Hudson, Charlie Kitts and Johnny O'Connell. Burial is at United Cemeteries in Carleton Place

    People were shocked to learn of the sudden death, early Monday morning of Mr John Rose of Pakenham Township. He was a comparatively young man having been born on Sept 3rd, 1913. Mr Rose was a bachelor and had made his home with his cousin, Mr Ed Rose, on the family homestead of for the last 20 years. He had a heart condition which had not bothered him to a great extent up to the time of his death. He helped with the work around the farm and did not complain about feeling badly on the last night he retired. He was taken suddenly ill early in the morning and passed away before medical aid arrived. The late Mr Rose was a son of the late John E. Rose and Mary Cavers of Pakenham Township and was born on the farm where he died. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the Comba Funeral Home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev T.R. Hutcheson of the Reformed Presbyterian Church conducted the service, assisted by Rev H.C. Wolfraim of Bethany United Church. Deceased was a deacon of the first mentioned Religious denomination. Pallbearers at his funeral were: John Morton, John Waddell, Allan, Thos and Wm Burns and Wm Bowes. Among many floral offerings were pieces from the Reformed Presbyterian Church and C.Y.P.U.
