(Research):ohn Code's 1787 oldest son, John, was born in Quebec according to 1891 census - he was 73 yrs old (1891-73 = 1818) at the time. This census also shows Ann and Ellen. All 3 were siblings of Thomas. Ann who was 74 in the census was born in Ireland. This would mean that John 1787 immigrated in 1817 which confirms Bailey's speculation.|

After emigrating, he worked in Montreal for a couple of years before moving to Lanark Co.. His sons set up a woollen mill in Innisville and Abraham owned a large mill in Carleton Place for about 10 years while he was MP for Lanark County.

Abraham Code-He was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Lanark South in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1869 to 1879. He was born in Lanark Township in 1828 and educated there. He served as reeve for Drummond Township from 1860 to 1875. Code built a large woollen mill at Carleton Place in 1871; he was forced to close it due to financial difficulties in 1878. He was elected to the provincial legislature in an 1869 by-election held after the death of William McNairn Shaw. Code joined the federal Ministry of Internal Revenue as an Inspector of Weights and Measures in 1880. He died in Ottawa in 1898. He is buried in Beechwood Cemetery.

Plunkett. lifelong resident of this district and member of a pioneer family, was held Thursday afternoon from his late residence in Montague township to St. Bcde's Anglican church, thence to the church cemetery. Rev. 11, D. Roberts conducted th services. Mr. Plunkett died at his home on Tuesday following a brief illness. He was in his 81st year and was born in Montague, son of the late Roger Plunkett and his wife, Anne Evans, pioneer residents of the section. He was an Anglican, and was active in politics, being a staunch Conservative. Surviving are his widow, the former Catherine M. Loney, Smiths Falls; and three nieces, Mrs. Gertrude Patterson, Mrs. James Irvine and Mis3 Mamie Giff. all of Smiths Falls. Two daughters predeceased him by some years.

Mrs John F. Gordon
Mrs Jno F. Gordon, a much esteemed resident of Ramsay township. passed peacefully away at her home on Tuesday, Dec 4th, at the age of 71 years. Her maiden name was Margaret Ann Evans, the eldest daughter of Wm Evans and Betsy Munro of Clayton. While quite young she became the wife of Adonijah Giles, who died in 1882. To them four children were born, Reuben of Blakeney; Robert W. of Almonte. Adonijah and Elizabeth A., Mrs Jacob Price of Sonningdale, Sask. The latter two predeceased her in 1916 and 1918 respectively. Some years later she married Jno F. Gordon, and this union was blessed with six children: Margaret, Mrs Tom Cavanagh, and Minnie, Mrs W.J. Elliott, of Sonningdale, Sask; William, 3rd line Ramsay; Eva, teacher in Crichton School, Ottawa; Findlay and Ada at home, All of these, with their father survive. The funeral service was conducted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon of Bethany United Church, Almonte and was held on Thursday, Dev 6th, at 2 o'clock to the Auld Kirk cemetery. During the service Mrs J. Reilly and Mrs Clarence Kellough, by request, sang sweetly, "On Calvary's Brow." The pallbearers were Messrs George Robertson, Angus Sutherland, P.Y. Sutherland, John Turner, Will Giles and Herbert Coxford, The following floral tributes attest to the love deceased had won in hearts of neighbours and friends and expressed their sympathy: Gate Ajar, the family; Wreaths, Staff of Crichton Public School, Ottawa, Mrs N.J. ?/i?The death occured early Sunday morning, August 6th, of a well-known resident of Almonte, Mrs. William H. Scott, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Coxford. She was in her 81st. year.

Mrs Scott was born at Clayton, a daughter of the late William Evans and his wife Betsy Munro. Fifty-eight years ago she married William H. Scott, who predeceased here eight years ago. Mrs. Scott had resided in Almonte for over 40 years. In religion she was Presbyterian. Following her husbands death she resided with her daughter.

Of a family of eight, six survive, three daughters and three sons, Mrs. Herbert Coxford, Almonte; Mrs. Frank Snow, Fort William; Mrs George Vaniderstine, Moose Jaw; Harvey and James Scott, Almonte; and Alston of Melville, Saskatchewan. Three sisters and one brother also survive, Mrs. Geo. Pretty, Darling; Mrs Ida Prescott, Smiths Falls; Mrs Mort Young, Regina, Sask, and Abraham Evans of Clayton.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Coxford. The pallbearers were Roy Robertson, Harold Prescott, Roy Evans, Ernest Robertson, Findlay Gordon and Wm. Pretty. Interment was in the Auld Kirk cemetery.

Mrs. R. W. Drew Dies Suddenly
Mrs. Richard W. Drew, 68, of 1136 Riverdale Ave., died suddenly of a heart attack while taking a walk in her neighbourhood Thursday afternoon. She was seized with a fainting spell and was seen by a friend, who hurried to her assistance. An ambulance was called, but Mrs. Drew was dead when it arrived.
Mrs. Drew, who before her marriage was Margaret Miller, was born in Renfrew, Ont., in 1875. With her family she had lived in Calgary for 16 years. Mr. Drew was a divisional freight agent with the Canadian Pacific Railway, and retired in 1939 after 43 years service with the company. They had lived in Regina for about 14 years before coming to Calgary.
During the last war, Mrs. Drew was an active member of the I.O.D.E. She was a life member of the Red Cross Society, and during this was gave much of her time to war work. With her family she attended Christ church and was a valued member of the Women's Auxiliary.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Keith M., Calgary and Lt. Richard C. Drew, R.C.A.S.C., at Camp Borden, Lt. Drew will reach home Monday.
Ven. Archdeacon Dudley F. Kemp will conduct funeral services at Christ church on Monday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the family plot, Burnsland cemetery.

The death occurred at the Rosamond Memorial hospital, Almonte, on Wednesday, Aug 29th, of Elizabeth Emline Millar, widow of the late Robert Watchorn, in her 87th year. She was a daughter of the late John Millar of Pakenham and his wife, Elizabeth Evans. The Watchorn family moved to Almonte from Pakenham, many years ago, and after Mr Watchorn's death, Mrs Watchorn continued to live here up to the time of her death, Aug 29th. She leaves four daughters, namely Gertie, (Mrs R.A. Miller) Toronto; Pearl (Mrs H. Blair) Toronto; Lena (Mrs Clifford Robertson) Almonte; Roberta (Mrs Thomas Barclay) Almonte. There is also one grandchild, Robert Barclay, of this town. Funeral services were held at the Comba Funeral Home, Friday afternoon, by Rev H.C. Wolfraim of Almonte United Church and interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mrs. Robert Dickson (Mary Jane Evans) of Augusta street, Almonte passed away at her home Sunday, Dec. 21st, following a lengthy illness. Deceased was born in Pakenham township in 1879. Mrs. Dickson's parents were the late George Evans and his wife, Mary Tomlinson. In 1902 she married Robert Dickson and spent the greater part of her life on the farm in Pakenham Township. She was a devoted mother to her family and loved by all and of a kind disposition. Surviving besides, her husband are two sons, Lloyd on the farm, at Cedar Hill; Stanley at home in Almonte; three daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Violet) Fulton of Almonte; Mrs. Harry (Edna) Deugo of Stittsville; Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Stewart of Nipigon; two sisters, Mrs. Ed. (Caroline) Manary of Almonte and Mrs. Cain (Lavina) Cameron of White Lake; two grandchildren, Evelyn Stewart on the teaching staff at Bradford and Lyle of Nipigon. The funeral was held on Tuesday, December 23rd at from Comba's Funeral Home. The service was conducted by Rev. J. R. Anderson and burial took place in the United Cemetery in Pakenham. Pallbearers were George Evans, Bill Evans, Forbes Evans, Norman Cameron, Stewart Manary and Howard Lowry.

Mr. Chamney, who had resided at 176 Town Line, passed away on February 3, In C.P. & D Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 69 years of age. The funeral of Mrs Thomas S Shaw, of Pakenham, who died suddenly last Friday, was held from her late residence Sunday afternoon. Rev H A Turner, pastor of St Andrew's United Church, conducted the funeral service, and interment was in the United Cemetery. An active member of the United Church she was keenly interested in all its activities. Among the many floral tributes were offerings from the United Church Board, and Missionary Sewing Circle.
The late Mrs Shaw was born at Scotch Corners, daughter of the late W M Code and his wife Mary Stanley, and was in her 60th year. Before her marriage she was Eva Jane Code.
About 37 years ago she married Thomas S Shaw and went to reside in Pakenham. Surviving besides her husband are one son, Borden Shaw, at home, and one daughter, Mrs Frank Du Bois, Larder Lake; four brothers, Fred and Trevor, of Smiths Falls; Matt Code, Clayton, and W M Code, Scotch Corners; two sisters, Mrs Isaac Smith, Arnprior, and Mrs John Tamam, Jasper; and one grandson Donald Hugh Du Bois, Larder Lake.
