Last tribute to William Barr, 80, supervisor of Marin County for 22 years, who died Friday night, was paid Monday afternoon when funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church at San Rafael under the auspices of the Marin Lodge, F. & A.M., of which he was one of the oldest members.

Supervisor Barr, although not in robust health for some time, had been ill but a few days. He had not attended the meeting of the supervisors on Monday and Tuesday of last week.

Born in Scotland, he came to California in 1875 and engaged in the contracting business in San Francisco and later in Marin County. He built the 2 main structures and the Montgomery Chapel of the San Francisco Theological Seminary, and the Presbyterian Church in San Rafael, and personally selected in Sonoma County the stone used in their construction.

Later Mr. Barr was superintendent of the Marin County Power and Water Company, which position he held until the company was taken over by the Marin Municipal Water District.

Elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1894, he served as the representative of District No. 1 for 10 years. He was again elected to the Board in 1918 and had retained the position until his death last Friday.

The venerable supervisor is survived by his widow, Mrs. Amelia Lang Barr, a member of a pioneer Marin County family, 2 daughters Mrs. Keith Ferguson and Mrs. J. Harold Dollar, and 5 sons, Dr. T.C.I. Barr, Dr. Arthur Barr, Robert Barr, William Barr Jr., and John Barr.

William married Amelia Jane Lang on 6 Mar 1879 in Marin County, California, United States. Amelia (daughter of Robert Lang and Jane Syme) was born on 1 Jun 1860 in Ontario, Canada; died in Ross, Marin County, California, United States; was buried in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael, Marin County, California, United States.
