    The death occurred at Almonte this Thursday morning, April 17, of Margaret Esdow Lang, widow of the late James Bennett, aged 86 years. The funeral will take place from the residence of Mr Jos Gibbons, Wilkinson St. on Saturday, April 19th at 3 p.m. to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Service at the home at 2.30. Obituary next week.

    Mrs Jas Bennett Granddaughter Of Almonte's First Teacher.?/b?
    The funeral was held last Saturday afternoon, April 19th of Margaret Esdow Bennett, widow of the late James Bennett, from the home of Mr and Mrs Jos Gibbons, Wilkinson Street, where she had resided since the death of her husband 12 years ago. Services were conducted by Rev Wm Aird of the Baptist church of which deceased had been a member during her lifetime. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Messrs Joseph Brooks, Jos Gibbons, Wm McCallum, James Barbour, Roy Thompson and James F. Patterson. Mrs Bennett, who was 86 years of age, had been in failing health for a number of years and death was hastened by injuries sustained in a fall some six weeks ago. She died on Thursday, April 17th. The late Mrs Bennett was born in Almonte a daughter of the late Alexander Lang and Janet Smith. She was a granddaughter of Arthur Lang, Almonte's first school master, who came to this part of the country in 1820. In 1885 she married James Bennett, who was an overseer in the plant of the Rosamond Woolen Co. for 50 years. She was the oldest member of the local Baptist congregation and of the Almonte Branch of the Women's Institute of which she was honourary president. She is survived by two nieces and two nephews. Among those attending the funeral from a distance were a niece, Miss Grace Cockroft, professor of history, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Mrs Gordon Schultz, Westmeath, Ont, and Mrs Lorraine Desjardins, of Pembroke

James (son of John Bennett and Eliza) was born in 1859 in Almonte, Lanark County, Canada West; died on 4 Jun 1935 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
