George and Mary Browne, friends (of Sylvianne Penner) from York, Yorkshire, England ran across a Coxford sign while visiting friends and kindly sent these pictures and ordnance survey map and did some research on the history of Coxford.

The nearest town of any size is Fakenham (52 degrees 50'n, 0' 51'E) about eight (8) miles from Coxford. There is a Coxford heath (see map) that is wet and partly wooded, unusual for the area. There was a Coxford Priory in the Middle Ages and the nearby village of Rudham benefited from the Market and Fair granted to the Priory. A lot of the stone from the ruins of the Priory were used in the foundation of a house called Raynham, built in the 1620's for Sir Roger Townsend. To quote from a Reference Library book: "The Plundering of Coxford for building stone created one of the most attractive monastic sites in Norfolk. There is much less masonry work than at most other abbeys, but its atmosphere of space and isolation is unique. Founded about 1140, dissolved in 1536 to become the property of the Duke of Norfolk and eventually passed on to the Townsends in 1597".

The ordnance map was obtained from the farmer who now owns this property. Very little of the Abby ruins remain. Cosford, according to the farmer consists of his farm and farmhouse, plus three other cottages. As George states, that's Coxford. not much nightlife I'm afraid.

Note: on the map of England, the names of to towns, Blakeney and Pakenham that are in close proximity to Coxford and undoubtedly, these names were transplanted to Canada to locales where the Coxfords settled.

1066: Norman Invasion

1085: Stonework on St. Mary's (see photos) at East Rudham began.

1135-1154: Coxford Priory founded (Old Ruins) by William Cheney (a Norman) during Stephen's
Reign (originally at East Rudham). It was a Augustine Priory and was relocated in 1216.

1140: Normans came to this area, prior to this time the Saxon's constructed the Churches using flint a wedging between the stones. The Normans who brought their own stone masons used a cement mortar between stones so that many of these structures are still standing and in use.

?/u?This is a Norman name which is possibly the origin of the name Coxford.
Cokes were Norman Landowners.
Ford meaning where there is no bridge, a shallow spot in the river.
Coxford (Cokesford) meaning landowners at the ford in the river. They were a higher class of society, not in the working class and may have come from Brittany.
Cokesford may have been spelled Cotesford. at one time.

1216: The Monks moved their headquarters from St. Mary's to Coxford Priory (Coxford Abby ruins) at the beginning of Henry III's Reign.

1301: Vicar of Rudham was John de Titeshale, Prior and Convent of Cokesford.

1305: Vicar of West Rudham was William Rademelde, Prior and Covent of Cokesford.
1534 John de Coxford, alias Mathew, was the last Prior.

1537 The Abby was dissolved
The Earl of Lester (who was a Coke, landowner) started the farm course rotary system of farming, soon after.

1623: Henry VIII ordered the absolution of Catholic Monasteries. Three churches, the Coxford Abby and two others were ordered destroyed. About the same time Black Death wiped out the Village of Sengham, which surrounded Coxford Abby. Sengham means home of Seng (Saxon). About 800-1000 survivors of the Black Death left Sengham and established Gates End about one mile away.
Gates End or perhaps Gates Hill is what is know at Tattersett today.
The Black Day is reported to have been brought to the area by a Tax Collector from London.

1719: A small pot of Roman coins was found in the Coxford Abby ruins in an underground passage, indicating that Romans were in this area at one time.

Sir Robert Walpole (1676-1745) He was the Prime Minister for King George I and King George II. His original home is in the area.
Earl of Orford (a Walpole) He was a Prince of England.
Many of these Walpoles known at the Earls of Orford are buried in St. Martin of Tours Church, at Houghton.

The house David McGill lived in is still standing, all enclosed, photocopy, it is opposite the building which was the General Store for many years, on the main street of Rosebank, now called Blakeney.

John Coxford: Occupation: stone mason
John died in a rock slide while working on the Rideau Canal. John may have also used the name James. The name John Coxford appears on his son (James) marriage certificate. I have not been able to determine which ship and exactly when the Coxfords came to Canada, but it is know that Mary was born after they arrived, so must of been in 1837-1838. John worked as a stone mason on the Rideau Canal and according to oral stories he was killed in a Rock Fall in the 1840's. There were two rock falls, the question is which one?

(Medical):There may be some historical confussion in that the construction of the Rideau Canal was between 1826-1832, although there was probably construction for years afterward, such as Lockmaster houses . As the workforce became available after completion of the Canal the stone houses of the area were built from 1834 on. It would seem more likely that John Coxford was killed in a quarry site or construction site post Rideau Canal construction.

Mr. James Coxford, of Blakeney, had been ailing for some time and a couple of weeks ago he went to an Ottawa hospital for treatment but nothing could be done for him, and he returned home last week. From that time he gradually sank until on Wednesday the end came. The deceased was born in London England, and came with his parents to Canada at Ottawa (then Bytown) and here the deceased served his apprenticeship at shoemaking. When a young man he came to Ramsay and spent a year with Robert Gomersall, a tanner, at Blakeney. He afterward opened a shoe shop a Snedden's Corner at the ninth line, about fifty years ago, and removed to Rosebank Messrs James and Thomas McCann. Of a family of eighteen children born to them sixteen are still living, two having died in infancy. John and David are in Rochester; Arch and James, in Vegerville, N.W.T.; Thos. in Carp; Wm. and Mrs. Fulton, in town (Almonte); Mrs M. Snedden, in Ottawa; Mrs. W. Barker, 8th line, Ramsay, and Mrs. Forsythe, Misses Jessie, Mary, Jean and Robt. Alf and Herb, at home. the funeral takes place today (Friday) at 12:30 o'clock to the eighth line cemetery.

The funeral servlce of Mrs Sarah Ann Fraser, beloved wife of Mr David Fraser, of Gibbons Alta., who I passed away at the family residence on Sunday evening June 25, at the age of 55 years, was held on Wednesday afternoon, June 28, at 3:30 o'clock from Andrews Brothers funeral chapel, 112 St. and Jasper Ave. Rev Dr Scott MacKenzie officiated. The death occurred on Almonte night, April 5th, of Mrs William Barker aged 87 years. She passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs Agnes Snedden of Appleton with whom she had resided for the last five years. Mrs Barker was a daughter of the late James Coxford and his wife Mary Kennedy and was born on the homestead near Blakeney.
She married the late William Barker in 1881, lived on a farm on the 8th Line of Ramsay. Some 40 years ago the couple moved to Almonte. Mrs Barker was a member of Bethany United Church and a life member of the Women's Missionary Society.
Left to mourn her are NE son and two daughters, namely, Wm J. Barker of Moosomin, Sask.; Mabel (Mrs C.H. Callard) Langley Prairie, B.C. and Viola (Mrs G.R. McMahon) Kingston. The funeral was held on Monday from the residence of Mr W.E. Scott, Elgin Street, to Bethany Church where the service was conducted by the pastor, Rev W.J. Scott, hence to the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

William Coxford of Almonte celbrated his 85th birthday on Monday of this week. Twenty-five years ago, the week of the Old Boys' Reunion, nine of the family met, Mrs. Wm. Barker, Mrs. H. M. Snedden, Mrs. C. Black, Mrs. R, Barker. H. L. Coxford, T. Coxford, ?>. M. Coxford, A. W. Coxford and Wm. Coxford. Of the nine present 25 years ago, 8 are still living and four were together on Monday.

Following an illness of three weeks' duration, William Coxford passed quietly to rest at his home on Union Street early New Year's morning. He was born in Ramsay Township in 1860, a son of the late James Coxford and Mary Kennedy.

At an early age he became a textile operator. He worked as his trade in Blakeney and at the Anchor Mill and Penman Mill, in Almonte, retiring fifteen years ago. (1931)

In 1886 he married Jessie Tosh of Blakeney, who predeceased him five years ago. Their only daughter, Ethel McIntyre (Mrs J.B. Cram) died 13 years ago.

Left to mourn are two grandchildren, William Cram of Galt and Jessie (Mrs Arthur Morton), who made her home with her grandparents, following her mother's death, and three great grandchildren.

Of his immediate family, of whom there were sixteen members, four sisters and four brothers survive, namely: Annie, Mrs Wm Barker and Agnes , Mrs Manse Snedden, both of Appleton; Janie , Mrs Chas Black, and Lizzie, Mrs L Fulton, of Fort William and Archie, Edmonton, Alta.; Robert of Estevan, Sask.; Herbert of Almonte and Thomas of Ottawa.

Mr Coxford was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. In spite of his years, he was active until a short time ago and took a keen interest in affairs of the community.

Deceased was a member of Mississippi Lodge No 147, A.F. & A.M., and the Masonic service was held at the home on Wedneday at 8 p.m.

The funeral service was held on Thursday, Jan 3 at 2:30 and was largely attended by friends and relatives. The service was conducted by Rev H.L. Morrison of Trinity United Church of which deceased was a member.

The pallbearers were, Messrs Louis Peterson, S.H. Morton, W.H. Morton, G.E. Gomme, W.A. Metcalfe and John Lindsay.

Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

About three weeks ago Miss Mary Coxford was taken ill with typhoid, and was removed to the Rosamond Memorial Hospital for treatment, but serious complications developed early in the course of the disease, and human effort proved unavailing in the fight against it, and the end came on tueday evening. The deceased, who was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Jas Coxford, was born at Rosebank nearly 47 years ago, and has spent practically her whole life in the community. Of her brothers and sisters there are still thirteen living. These are David and John at Rochester, N.Y.; Arch and James at Edmonton; Mrs Alex Fulton and Mrs Chas Black at Fort William; Mrs William Barker, Almonte; Mrs R. Barker and Mrs M. Snedden, Ramsay; Thos in Ottawa and Robert, Herb and Wm in town. The funeral took place this (Thursday) afternoon from the residence of Mr Wm Barker in town to the eighth line cemetery and was attended by many whose regret at the sudden cutting off of one who was loved and esteemed was sincere and heartfelt. A harp from her fellow-employees in the Anchor, and a wreath from the C.O.C.F. were among the floral emblems.

Archibald and Florence lived in Lamont, AB, near Elk Island Park, and Edmonton. They were married in Vegreville, AB. They lived on his homestead at Vegreville until it burned down during a prairie grass fire. Archie was appointed superintendent of Elk Island National Park in Nov 1909. He retired on 29 Apr 1937. During that time they lived in Lamont, AB. After he retired and they moved to Edmonton.

Florence was the first person who wrote up the information on the Coxford Family in 1972.

Archibald Whyte Coxford, 84, of 9563 111 ave., Alberta pioneer and superintendent of Elk Island Park for 27 years, died in the city Wednesday.
Born in Almonte, Ont., Mr. Coxford moved west to Edmonton in 1900 and worked here as a lumberman for two years.
For the following seven years Mr. Coxford was engaged in farming in the Vagreville district until his appointment as superintendent in 1909. During his many years service Mr. Coxford was instrumental in bringing the buffalo and elk population to a position of prominence in western Canada.
During his residence at the park Mr. Coxford took an active part in community affairs in the nearby town of Lamont. He was a member of the town's Masonic lodge and the Lamont I. O.O. F. lodge, No. 87
Following his retirement in the fall of 1936 he moved to the coast for one year before returning here.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at foster and McGarvey's chapel. Rev. A. B. Argue will officiate and burial will follow in the Edmonton Cemetery.
Mr Coxford is survived by his wife, here; two daughters, Mrs. R. W. Stuckey and Mrs. E. J. Garrett of Edmonton; one son, Jack Mannville; three grand-children, two sisters and two brothers in eastern Canada.

Mrs. Jessie Barker
A life-long resident of the township of Ramsay, Mrs. Jessie Barker, widow of Robert Barker, died in a Cornwall hospital on Sunday, after a lenghthy illness. She was in her 73rd. year.

Born and educated at Blakeney, Ont. she was the daughter of the late Jas. Coxford and his wife, Mary Kennedy. The former Jessie Coxford she married Robert Barker in Blakeney 40 years ago. He died five years ago. Mrs. Barker was a member of Bethany United Church.

She is survived by one son, Melville Barker, at home; two daughters, Mrs James Steele, Ramsay Township, and Miss Thelma Barker, Ottawa; fire brothers, Archie Coxford, Edmonton; Robert Coxford Estevan, Sask; Thos Coxford, Ottawa; and William and Herbert, both of Almonte; four sisters, Mrs. William Barker and Mrs. Mansfield Snedden, both of Appleton; Mrs. Charles Black and Mrs. Elizabeth Fulton, both of Fort William.

The funeral which was held on Tuesday afternoon from the residence of her son Mr. Melville Barker was largely attended by friends and neighbours who wished to pay a last tribute. The service was conducted by Rev W.J. Scott of Bethany United Church.

Among the floral tributes which testified to the esteem in which deceased was held were wreaths from Blakeney Ladies' Aid and Ramsay Women's Institute.

The pallbearers were five nephews, Herbert Snedden, Harold Snedden, Stewart Coxford, Robert Barker and Russell Cochran and a son-in-law James Steele. Interment was in the family plot in the Auld Kirk cemetery.

Mrs H.M. Snedden
The funeral of Mrs Mansfield Snedden was held on Monday afternoon at the Fleming Funeral Home, Carleton Place, where Rev N. T. Holmes conducted the service. Mrs Snedden died at the Cameron Nursing Home, Carleton Place. She had been ill for several years and was in her 80th year. The former Agnes Barker Coxford, she was born at Blakeney, daughter of the late James Coxford and Mary Kennedy. She received her education there and was married at Almonte in 1900 to Mr Snedden who died in 1933. She spent most of her life in Ramsay and at Appleton. She attended the United Church and was a life member of the W.M.S. Surviving are two sons, Harold and Herbert R. Snedden of Appleton; two brothers, Herbert Coxford of Almonte and Thomas Coxford of Ottawa and one sister, Mrs Charles Black of Fort William, and six grandchildren. The pallbearers were William Anderson, Hollie Lowry, Hubert; I Syme, Harry Young, Robert Reid and Russell Lyons. The remains were placed in St James' vault and interment will be in the Auld Kirk Cemetery in the Spring.

Robert Henry Coxford Family History

Robert Henry Coxford and his wife, Elizabeth Scott Coxford, came west from Almonte, Ontario in 1912 with three of a family, Harold, Kenneth and Margaret, all having been born in Almonte. the settled in Rosetown, Saskatchewan where Clarence (Tubby) was born in 1914. later they moved to Saskatoon where Alfred was born in 1920.

The Coxford family left Saskatoon July 1928 to live in Shaunavon with only Margaret, Tuby and Alfred leaving. Harold remained in Saskatoon. Ken was then working in a hardware it Frontier, Saskatchewan with the Gilbertson Brothers.

In January 1929 they arrived in Estevan - that is Robert, Elizabeth, Margaret, Tubby and Alf. As housing was hard to find at this time we were fortunate to find and rent a suite above Irvine;s Drug building. In June of that year the family moved into a building which had been remodeled. This home is now the Brovold family home. Mrs. Fisher lived next door to us.

We later lived in the Fisher house, the Kincaid house on 2nd. Street and the Hek house. Robert and Elizabeth eventually lived in an apartment over Perry Hardware in the Perry Block.

Robert Coxford was a block man for the International Harvester Company and well known to Mr. Ed Rooney who had the International Harvester Company Agency in Estevan. Robert travelled the southern part of the province. The depression caused a slump in machinery sales and Robert was laid off in the fall of 1931. he was taken on again in the fall for the next several years to help with collections.

In 1933 Robert became desk clerk at the International Hotel. He found this very interesting as he knew so many of the travellers. He was a member of the United Commercial Travellers Association, He was a member of Victory Lodge in Saskatoon and Estevan Masonic Lodge. He died December 1949.

Elizabeth Coxford was a beautiful Christian mother and was an active member of St. Paul's United Church and being a life member of the Women's Missionary Society.

She lived some years in the Perry Block with Ken, following her husband's death. Eventually she moved to a suite in the Creighton Lodge. She died in St. Joseph's Hospital in September, 1962.

Harold the oldest of the family, never lived in Estevan but spent many weekend holidays here with Ken and Evelyn in their apartment in the Creighton Block.

Harold worked for Eaton's for 41 years prior the early retirement 14 years ago (1966) after which he worked for Young;s Book and Stationery, Canada Wide Parking. He was a veteran of the Second World War, served overseas with the B.C. Dragoons and came back to Saskatchewan in 1945. He was married to Catherine Tunnicliffe in 1946 and from this union two sons were born:
Frank , mow married to Vicky Priest, lives in Saskatoon.
Craig, unmarried lives in Regina.
Frank and Vicky have two sons: Jeffrey Brian 5 yrs old and Robbie Leighton 3 yrs. old (1980).

Harold died suddenly March 19th., 1980 at Saskatoon. He had been a very much loved brother.

Kenneth arrived in Estevan in 1930, it was again because of the depression. He was laid off at Frontier and found work for some months in Men's Wear in Eaton's. He was the last one hired, he was first to go.

He joined the staff of Perry Hardware and was a loyal and faithful employee. He was loved by all who knew him for his honesty, integrity and friendly manner. It was never too much trouble for him to serve a customer. Many a Wednesday he opened up the store on a half day closing to oblige a farmer or local customer.

He was married to Evelyn Brovold in 1953 and had twelve happy years of marriage.

He was an active member of the Elks Lodge. During these years he was an attentive son and very thoughtful of his mother who was now living in the Creighton Lodge.

He was and still is sadly missed. He died November 10, 1965.

Tubby attended Estevan Collegiate and later served in the Royal Canadian Artillery 113th. Battery in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central Mediterranean in World War Two.

He worked for the Department of Immigration at North Portal and Estevan. He later moved to Saskatoon where he was employed by N.E. Cook and Son as a bookkeeper, then joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires.

He was married to Emegene Ross in a double wedding ceremony in Winnipeg when brother Alf married Muriel Potter in 1945. He died March 25, 1980 in Saskatoon after an illness of many months duration.

He and Gene had two sons, Robert and William, and two daughters, Patti Lou and Beverly Jean.
Robert married Marsha Moore and they have a son Jason Ross, born April 4, 1980. They live in Edmonton.
Bill lives in Calgary and has his own plumbing business.
Patti Lou married Gary Dionne and they have one daughter Jennifer, three years old.
Beverly Jean lives in Saskatoon and works for the city.

Alf attended Central School and Estevan Collegiate. Part of the time he worked at the Orpheum Theatre. He also worked at McLeod's Meat Market.

He served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment during World War Two and was two years and eight months a prisoner-of -war, being captured at Dieppe.

He later worked for Scott National Fruit Company and moved to Regina, Dawson Creek, B.C., Clayhurst, B.C. and finally to Fort St. John, B.C. He continued to attend any reunions of the South Saskatchewan Regiment whenever he could. He worked as a chef for various Geological surveys, railroad camps, etc. and enjoyed his work. He died November 23, 1979 at the age of 59.

He and Muriel had a son , James, born in Estevan and a daughter, Geraldine, born in Regina.

James married Gloria Graham in Whitehorse and they have three children: Sheri Anne 8 yrs., Laura Lee 5 yrs., and James Jr., 2 yrs., of age.

Geraldine married Jim Cameron, and they have a son, Curtis James, 4 yrs. and a daughter, Tracy Dawn, one year. They also live in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Margaret graduated from Estevan Collegiate in June 1929, attended Moose Jaw Normal in 1930-1931. Later she taught school for five years 1933-1938 at Black Diamond School District #44 at Taylorton.

She married Frank Peverelle in 1939 and moved to Vancouver in 1940 and then to North Vancouver in 1941, were they now reside.

They had two children, a son, Joseph Robert, born in St. Joseph's Hospital, Estevan, and a daughter Frances Gail, born in St Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, B.C.
Robert is married to Pamela Shaw and lives in Melbourne, Australia. He works for the Kodak Company in the cost accounting department and has been there 18 years.
they have two sons, Craig 16 yrs., and Scott Shaw 13 yrs. they were back in Canada for a visit Christmas 1979.
Gail is married to an Australian, Robert J. Phillips. They are both teachers and have two sons, Trevor 17 yrs., and Stephen Leslie 16 yrs., who are both in Secondary School in North Vancouver.

The greatest legacy left by Robert and Elizabeth Coxford was an abiding faith instilled in all of their children of the love and goodness of our Heavenly Father. Through their Christian Love shown to us we truly know what living and dying mean.

Obit - Mr. Alfred E. Coxford
After about two years' illness from tubercular trouble following a severe attack of typhoid fever, Mr. Alfred E. Coxford passed away at the home of his brother-in-law, Mr. Robert Barker, in Ramsay. The deceased was a young man of 26 years of age, and was a son of the late Jas. Coxford of Blakeney. A few years ago he went to Byng Inlet to work in the lumber mills there, but was taken ill with typhoid fever, which developed into tuberculosis. About a year ago Mr. Coxford spent some time at the Gravenhurst Sanatarium but the benefit received proved to be only temporary. Deceased was one of a family of eighteen children, his death being the fourth, two having died in infancy and Mrs. Forsythe a few weeks ago. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Mr. Robert Barker's to the eighth line cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Jane Black, affectionately called "Rufus" by her many friends, celebrated her 90th birthday on March 24, 1973. A resident in the Fort William ward Mrs. Black was born in Rosebank. near Almonte, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Coxford. She is the last living member of a family of 18 children.

She was married in 1907 in Rosebank to Charles Black, and two years later they went to Fort William to make their home. A resident of 222 North in the Fort William ward Mr. Black was a motorman for the street railway, a position he held until his death in 1938. Mrs. Black is the oldest member of Knox United Church on Pruden St., and one of the original leaders of the CGIT. She is also a life member of the Women's Missionary Society of the church. She was also a faithful worker for many years for the Red Cross Society.

Owing to ill health, and a recent stay in McKellar Hospital, plans for a celebration honouring her at this time have been curtailed. However, a family dinner, complete with the traditional birthday cake had been planned by her only son. Ernie, daughter-in-law Stella and her only grandson. Kevin, Upwards of 30 friends and relatives called to see Mrs. Black on her birthday, She was showered with countless cards, gifts and beautiful floral arrangements, including a corsage of tiny rosebuds from grandson Kevin. 1973

Mr James Mills

The serious accident which befell Mr James Mills, who fell from an electric light pole at the corner of Elgin street and Argyle avenue Friday morning, resulted fatally, the unfortunate man succumbing to his injuries on Saturday afternoon.

The late James Mills was the son of the late mr. Thomas Mills, and was in his 36th. year. A wife and six children survive him, the eldest being 13 years of age and the youngest four.

The funeral took place this afternoon under the leadership of the A.O.U.W. of which he was a prominent member.

?/b?It is scarcely a year since Mary Alice Barker left her father's home as the bride of Mr. W. G. Chamberlain, of the 6th. line, Ramsay, and already her friends are called upon tomourn her loss. Mrs. Chamberlain, who was the daughter of Mr. Wm. Barker, of the 8th. line, Ramsay, had been ill for some weeks with heart trouble. She gradually grew worse till the day of her death on Monday last. mrs. Chamberlain wa only 19 years of age and her death is a ppeculiarly sad one. The funeral on Wednesday to the eighth line cemetery was very large. It was conducted by Rev. J. H. Miller, of the methodist church, andRev. Ferguson Millar, Mrs. Chamberlain's former pastor. The occurance is one of unusual sadness, and has called forth sympathy for those to whom bereavement has come.

Mrs Anne Mabel Callaid, wife of Mr. G. H. Callard, 21767 Simmonds Road, Murrayville, passed away In Langley Memorial Hospital on Wednesday of last week. She was in her 65th year. Mrs. Callard was born in Almonte, Ontario, and came to Murrayville 18 years ago from Sask. An active community lady, Mrs. Callard took special interest in the Langley chapter No 50 of the Order of the Eastern Star and in the Missionary Society and Womens Auxiliary of Sharon United Church.
Funeral Services were under the auspices of the OES, Langley Chapter No 50, in Sharon United Church on Friday, July 8th, at 1 30 oclock. Rev. H I Hare officiated and the service was .followed by cremation. Columbia Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements. Rather than have flowers, Mrs Callard had requested befoie her death that donations be sent to either the Sharon United Church building fund or the Womens Missionary Society.
Mourning her passing are her husband; a daughter, Laura, at home; a son, CFO John, RCN, at Dartmouth, NS, three grandchildren; a brother, William, in Moosomin, Sask , and a sister, Viola, at Kingston, Ontario.

After an illness from typhoid fever extending a little over six weeks, David Barker, son of Mr and Mrs William Barker of htis town, passed away in the rosamond Memorial hospital on sunday last, at the age of fifteen years. Deceased was never endowed with a rugged constitution with the result that he was unable to successfully combat the fever, which ultimately resulted in his death. Besides his parents he is survives by three brothers, James at Viking Saskatchewan, William at Moosomin, Sask; and Robert at Renfrew, and two sisters, Misses Mable and Viola at home. The funeral took place on Tuesay from the residence of his father, Queen St., at 1:30 o'clock to the Eighth Line cemetery, the pallbearers being six of the chums of the deceased.

Survived by his loving wife, Nancy; son, Robert and wife Gayle; daughter, Anne and husband, Don wallis; grandchildren: Jonathan, Nathan, Timothy and Carmen; sister, Mrs. Mabel Garrett of New Westminster, B.C. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret (Peg) Coxford; his son Theodore Robert (Ted) Coxford, his daughter Robin Lynne Alary (Murray) of Halifax, Nova Scotia; a granddaughter Laura Donnelly (Hugh) of Oakville, Ontario; one sister Ada Mary (Babe) Lavoie of Edmonton, and a sister-in-law Marion Coxford of Sydney, B.C.; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
The family extends a deep expression of gratitude to Dr. Ian Ferguson and the staff of Station 64 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and to the staff of St. Michael's Extended Care Facility for their wonderful care given in shepherding Bob to his spiritual home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 1995 at 1 00 p.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 8715-118 Avenue with interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Fort Road. COXFORD, Norman Stewart WWII Veteran 426 Squadron - On Wings of Fire Stew passed away quietly on Sunday, August 8th at home, surrounded by family. At the age of 93, Stew was the last living child of Maud (Armstrong) and Thomas Coxford. Stew valued family and friends above all, and despite being the second youngest he was the family patriarch (survived by sister-in-law Rita and 1st cousin Kathleen). He was the driving force behind many family events and traditions, such as an annual sleigh ride, reunions, Christmas dinners and any excuse for a gathering. In his final years, he held a weekly oyster and martini luncheon at Big Daddy's, west end, where all family and friends were welcome. Stew treasured many meals with three and even four generations at his table. An accomplished business man for 70 years, he began his career working with the Journal, followed by Beach Foundry, Carsons and then onto the Laurentian Club where he retired at the ripe old age of 75. He was also a consultant throughout the years, and particularly loved working with the Kanata Storage gang. Stew volunteered for the armed forces when he was in his early twenties, attended officer's training, and served as a navigator on a Lancaster bomber flying 18 missions. He was a proud veteran, served on the 426 reunion organizing committee, and instilled in his children and grandchildren a respect for the armed forces and those who fight for peace and freedom. Stew was a consummate storyteller. He cultivated a great circle of friends throughout the years, many lifelong, and stayed in contact with letters, phone calls and we all know about the emails in recent years!! Predeceased by both his first wife, Connie Coxford, mother of Sharon Lang, Norm (deceased)(Susan), Leith (Al Trick), Laurie (Neil Tweedale), Lynn (Jim Wainright), Tom (Karen Clark) his second wife, Ora Cannon Coxford, mother of Craig (deceased) (Cheryl), Kim (Colin Rowan - deceased), and Kirk (Cheryl). Loving grandfather of Kirk, Kevin (Jenny), Tara (Jeff), Jason, Richard (France), Jenna (deceased), Nathan (Michelle), Jaime (David), Jenna (Scott), Michael (Ceilidh), Brittany, Taylor (Bridget), Cara (Trevor), Cale (Lucy), Alyssa, Lindsey (Ryan), Cody, Caleum, Tim, and Lana. Stew enjoyed spending time with his three great grandchildren: Lauren, Emma, and Drew. In addition to his immediate family, Stew was a strong influence on his numerous nieces and nephews always making time for advice or reason. A service will be held at St. Richard's Anglican Church, 8 Withrow Ave. (at the corner of Merivale Rd.) Thursday, August 12th at 11 a.m. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stew's memory can be made to the Perley Rideau Foundation and the Palliative Care Outreach Program.

Herbie Snedden
Herbert Ross Snedden, formerly of Appleton, died May 12 in the Almonte General Hospital, at the age of 77. He had been ill for many years. Mr Snedden was born in Ottawa in 1902, the son of the late Mansfield Snedden and Agnes Coxford. He grew up and lived in Appleton, where he was a farm equipment dealer. Mr Snedden was also a member of Ramsay township council for six years. He attended St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Carleton Place. Mr Snedden was the brother of the late Harold Snedden. He is survived by his wife, Jean Fumerton Snedden. A public funeral was held May 14 from the Alan Barker Funeral Home, Carleton Place, with Reverend Hill conducting the service. Burial took place at the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. Acting as pallbearers for Mr Snedden were Glen Syme, Wilfred Simpson, Alex Stewart, Stewart Aitken, Elymir Reid, and Bert McRae.

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Brockville General Hospital on Sunday July 13, 2014; Rachel Kathleen "Kay" Thomson (Nee Coxford), at the age of 94 years. A native of Almonte, Ontario and long time resident of Mississauga, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Ila Coxford. Wife of the late Cyril "Mac" Thomson. Dearly loved mother of Paul Thomson (Barbara), Ross Thomson (Barbara), John Thomson (Susanne), and the late Peter Thomson. Cherished grandmother of Scott (late), Daniel, Peter, Kathleen, Kristin, Heather and Lesley; and great-grandmother of Caitlyn, Troy, Bradley, Dylan, Taylor, Kalia and Samantha. She was predeceased by her brother Edwin Coxford and by sisters Elizabeth Duncan and Ruth Fresque.

Family and friends are invited to a ceremony in celebration of Kathleen's life to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014 at Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville. Following the service a gathering will take place in the Reception Centre. Private interment at Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. The : body is resting at the parlors of Hulse and Playfair Limited, 315 McLeod street, where the funeral will take place on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock to All Saints' Anglican church where Rev. R. G. Fiander will conduct the service. Interment will be in Beechwood cemetery. Mr. Ingram, who had been ill for about four months, was one of the most prominent members of All Saints' Anglican church, where he was former treasurer of the Sunday school, and president of the Young People's Association.
He was also active in the work of Ashlar Lodge, A.F. and A.M., of which he was a past master. Before accepting a position on the staff of the Printing Bureau, he was employed with the old Canada Atlantic and Grand Trunk Railway lines.
He had resided all his life In the Capital, and was a son of the late Robert Ingram and Mary "Ann Mills. He was popular In sporting circles here and took a special interest in the New Edinburgh Rugby and Canoe clubs.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, the former Ethel May Jordan, are twe sons, Dean Ingram of Ottawa, and Gordon Ingram, With the Royal Canadian Corps of Signallers; two daughters. Miss Millicent Ingram, and Mrs. J. N. Treadwell; two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Avery and Mrs. A. N. Jeffrey, and three grandchildren, all residing in Ottawa.
