    ?b?Mr William Paul?/b?
On Thursday morning, July 10th, the town of Carleton Place, and surrounding district was greatly shocked to her of the very sudden demise of their beloved friend, Mr William Paul, Harriott street. The deceased gentleman had retired the previous night in his usual health, and simply passed away in his sleep. His daughter, Miss Ida, had been out for a short time that evening, and on returning home, went as usual to his room to say good night, On entering she was shocked to find that he had gone to the Great Beyond. Mr Paul was born at "Mount Blow," Ramsay, on the farm now occupied by his nephew, W.J. Paul and was a son of the late Andrew Paul, one of the pioneers of the township. He had reached the ripe age of eighty-nine years. In early life he married Sara A. Shaw of Drummond Centre. They live in Ramsay, in the vicinity of Appleton, until 1910, when they removed to Carleton Place. Mrs Paul predeceased her husband nine months ago. He is survived by three sons, W.A. Paul, Pilot Mound, Man., C.H. Paul, Coghlan, B.C.; F.J. Paul on the homestead in the vicinity of Appleton, and Miss Ida A., at home. In religion Mr Paul was a Presbyterian, an elder in St Andrew's Church, Appleton, and later in St Andrew's, Carleton Place, until the union in 1925, when he became a member of Memorial Park United Church, and was constant in attendance at its services. His sunny, bright and buoyant disposition, ready sympathy, sterling character, strict integrity, rare personally and hospitality, emanating from his spirit of love were felt in their positive, warming and stimulating influence by others. The fragrance of his Christian life was not confined to narrow limits, but was far-reaching and will be long and lovingly cherished wherever his name is spoken The funeral which took place on Sabbath afternoon, July 13th, to the Auld Kirk cemetery was very largely attended, among those from a distance being friends from Ottawa, Perth, Smiths Falls, Balderson, Arnprior, Almonte, Appleton district and mourners who assembled to render their last tribute of love and respect testified to some extant to the great esteem in which the deceased was held. The pallbearers were Messrs Hamilton Stewart, Balderson; H.M. Snedden, Appleton; and four nephews, Dr D.M. Robertson, Ottawa; W.J. Paul, Ramsay; Archie Paul, Smiths Falls and W.A. Shaw, Carleton Place. The service was conducted by Rev J.H. Osterhout, Memorial Park United Church, assisted by Rev Mr Foote, St Andrew's Church, and Rev Mr Terrill of Almonte and Appleton U. Churches. Mr Osterhout took for his text, "'A prince and a great man is fallen this day in Israel,' Like Enoch of old, he walked with God and he was not; for God took him." Mr Osterhout paid an eloquent tribute to Mr Paul's goodness and devotion and services to God and humanity. The world is infinitely poorer, but heaven the richer for his entrance in. One of the members of his former Appleton Sabbath School Class expressed the view of many when he said, "I shall never forget his constant cheer and help. His counsel was always a great incentive to me to do my best and try to live a life worth while." The floral tributes were many and very beautiful, and included a pillow from the family, a wreath from the friends and neighbours of Appleton and vicinity, and sprays from Mr J.W. Rose and Evelyn, Almonte; Mr and Mrs W.J. Burns, Carleton Place; Dr D.M. Robertson, Misses Margaret and Anne, Ottawa; The Yuill Family, Ramsay; Mrs Andrew Paul and family Smiths Falls; Willena Paul, Ramay; Mr and Mrs Jas A. Turner, Appleton; Mr and Mrs Jas Pye, Sadie and Lawrence, Appleton; Mr and Mrs N. Riddell, Mrs D. Gillies, Mrs Thos Walsh, Mrs Duncan McLaren, Mrs Herb Sinclair Sr., Miss Campbell, Miss Jean Menzies, Mrs Stuart Houston and family, Dr W. ?b?The Late Mrs L. Naismith?/b?
On Monday last, word was received of the death, in Templeton, California, of Mary Paul, wife of Mr Lawrence Naismith, formerly of Almonte and Ramsay, and the announcement caused genuine sorrow among a large circle of friends, as the deceased was well known through this section, and was esteemed for her womanly qualities. Mrs Naismith, while an infant, came with her parents (the late Mr and Mrs Wm Paul, of the 7th line Ramsay) to Canada in 1821, and lived in this section nearly all her life. She married Mr Naismith 55 years ago, and they celebrated their golden wedding in Almonte in 1889. They resided on the 7th line of Ramsay up to ten of eleven years ago, when they come to Almonte; and they removed to California four years ago. Mrs Naismith had been an invalid for years, and up to the last, received every attention from the hands of her sister, Miss Paul. Two weeks prior to deceased's death she was attacked with pleurisy, which soon gain the mastery over the weakened frame. A strong faith in God was her sure foundation in the closing hours. The remains were interred in the cemetery at Templeton of the 17th inst. Much sympathy is felt for Mr Naismith, who is himself in very poor health as the result of an attack of grippe, followed by erysipelas. Mrs Naismith's death is the first break in the late Wm Paul's family of ten children.

Family/Spouse: Lawrence Naismith. Lawrence (son of Thomas Naismith and Isobel Gilmour) was born in 1816 in Glasgow, Glasgow City, Lanarkshire, Scotland; died on 26 Sep 1905 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 28 Sep 1905 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. DEATHS
In Ramsay, June 17th, William Paul, aged 86 years.

1911, Friday June 23, The Almonte Gazette page 4
    The Late William Paul
Ninety years ago William Paul and his wife were among the pioneers who set sail from Scotland for Canada, their object being to carve out homes for themselves in the new country. Three months or so later found them with the first settlers of this section encamped on the banks of the Mississippi near where Almonte's town hall now stands. from that point the stout-hearted immigrants scattered to all points of the compass. Mr Paul and his wife located on the 7th line of Ramsay, where they lived to a good age, and passed away after doing their full share towards converting the country from primeval forest to the present prosperous and comfortable farms lands which distinguish this county. Ten children were born to them, and in course of time the farm passed into the hands of their eldest son, William Paul the Second. The latter was born on the pioneer farm in November 1824, lived on it for over eighty-six years, and in his turn ended his days there on Saturday last, after a short illness due simply to the wearing out of the system from age. Now William Paul the Third hold sway over the same farm, which has thus remained with the family into the third generation, all the owners bearing the same honoured name. The late William Paul was a modest but industrious farmer, who won general esteem by his fine qualities as a neighbour, and his influence could be depended upon to help along the cause he believed to be a worthy one. He never sought or held public office; his domestic life was worthy of praise; and his faith in God was strong and unshaken to the end. He was one of the oldest members of St John's Presbyterian congregation, and the funeral service was conducted by Rev C.H. Daly, pastor of that church. Interment was made on Tuesday in the 8th line cemetery. The cortege was notable for its length and the large turnout of the older citizens of town and country. Mr Paul and Janet Simpson were united in marriage over halfa- century ago. Mrs Paul died over fifteen years ago. The surviving children are Mr William Paul and Miss Aggie Paul, on the homestead, and Mrs John Milliens of Wakada, Man. Of the ten children of his own generation but two survive ? Miss Agnes Paul, of Ramsay, and Mr Robert Paul of Clayton. Mr Paul's death removes almost the last of the venerated pioneers of his immediate neighbourhood.

    A "Mother in Israel" Called
After a prolonged but painless illness due to her great age Miss Agnes Paul died on Wednesday morning at the home of her nephew here, Mr Joseph Paul. ?b?Miss Anna Paul?/b?
At "Cedar Cottage," Ramsay, on Sunday evening, Dec 3rd, Miss Anna Paul, daughter of Mr Wm Paul, one beloved by all who knew her, was called to her heavenly home. Although she had been ailing for several years, yet she always bore her sufferings with Christian fortitude, strong in spirit, though week in body. Her life was a noble example of love, patience, unselfishness and true nobility of character. Like a true solder of the cross, she fought the good fight of faith, and is heir to the crown of righteousness that fadeth not away.
Safe in the arms of Jesus,
    Safe on His gentle breast!
    There, by his love o'vershaded
    Sweetly my soul shall rest.
The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon from the home of her father, Mr Wm Paul, Appleton, to the eighth line cemetery, and judging by the very large number who accompanied the cortege to the place of burial, the deceased was the centre of an unusually wide circle of warm friends.

    Miss Maggie Paul
After suffering for several months from a lung trouble, Miss Maggie J. Paul, daughter of Mr Wm Paul, of Ramsay, was called upon on Friday of last week to test the realities of the life beyond the grave. The deceased was of a very quiet and retiring disposition, unostentatious in all that she did, but ever faithful in the discharge of her duties. She was an earnest and consistent follower of the Savoir, whom she loved, and died as she lived -- in the full hope of a blessed resurrection. The funeral on Monday was an unusually large one, many friends following the remains to the place of interment in the eighth line cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev A.M. Currie, assisted by Rev A.E. Mitchell of Ottawa, who came up to attend the funeral. The sympathy of the community goes out to the father and other members of the family in their bereavement, and is increased because of the illness of the aged parent who was unable to leave his room on the day of the funeral.
