Mr. Wm. Scott, the well-known farmer of the 3rd line of Ramsay, died on Saturday last, from an attack of heart failure, and was buried in the cemetery at Boyd's Settlement on Monday, the funeral being largely attended. The late Mr. Scott was born in Ireland 78 years ago, and came to Canada in 1849 - forty-four years ago. He spent those forty-four years in Ramsay township. Mr. Scott was married three times, and had sixteen children, thirteen of whom survive, with fifty-three grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren, to mourn his loss.

(Special to The Tribune) Dominion City, Man., Dec. 25 - The funeral was held here Wednesday of Robert O. Scott, pioneer of Dominion City, who came here in 1876. Service was conducted at 2 o'clock at his daughter's home by Rev. Mr. Spiers and Rev. Mr. Robinson, and burial took place in Dominion City Cemetery.

The pallbearers were, George allen, D.H. McFadden, Emerson; J.D. Baskerville, A. Waddell, V. Scholte and R. Barber, Dominion City.

Mr. Scott is survived by two sons, William, Boissevain, and Cuthbert, Dominion City, and five daughters, Mrs. Simpson, Dominion City; Mrs. Wellband, Strasbourg, Sask.; Mrs. Leonard, Saskatoon and Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Brisley, Winnipeg. Death occurred Monday at the residence of Mrs. Simpson, his daughter.

Born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1841, Mr. Scott came to Canada when six years of age. He settled with his parents at Almonte, Ont. Here he spent his boyhood years, coming to Manitoba at the age of 35.

After living alone for a year on his farm at Dominion City, he returned east for his wife and family. Mrs. Scott was formerly Miss Lydia Acres, of Ottawa, and was well known in Manitoba. Upon the completion of the railway between Emerson and Winnipeg in 1879, Mrs. Scott drove in the last spike.

Upon his return to Manitoba with his family in 1877, Mr. Scott brought them first by boat to Duluth and then down the Red River to Emerson.

In Dominion City, Mr. Scott devoted much of his time to the welfare of the community. He served for 21 years on the council. In politics he was a strong Conservative. He was affiliated with the Orange lodge. A cousin was the late Lieut. Col. Scott, of Winnipeg.

Robert O. Scott, Dominion City died at the age of 84, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T.J. Simpson, Monday, December 21. Mr. Scott came to Canada at the age of six, from Belfast, Ireland and settled in Almonte, Ont. where he spent his boyhood days. In 1876 he came to Manitoba and took up a homestead in the Dominion City district. The following year he returned east for his wife, nee Lydia Acres, of Ottawa, and their four small children, travelling by boat by way of Duluth and Minneapolis, finally down to Red River to Emerson and settled on their homestead, where they faced all the hardships of pioneer life. Mr. Scott devoted much of his time in the interest of his adopted town, being a councillor for 21 years. He was a strong supporter of the Conservative party and a loyal Orangeman. In his later years he derived much pleasure from his gardening, being a great lover of flowers.
His wife, who preceded him by a few years, helped drive the last spike in the C.P.R. line from Winnipeg to Emerson.
Mr. Scott was a cousin of the late Lieut-Col Scott, of Winnipeg, and one of Dominion City's most respected and widely known citizens.
The funeral took place Wednesday at 2 o'clock from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Simpson, to the Dominion City Cemetery. the service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Spiers* assisted by the late Rev. Mr. Robinson.
The pallbearers were Geo. Allen and W. H. McFadden, of Emerson, W.J. Baskerville. A. Waddell, V. Scholte, and R. Barber, of Dominion City.
The deceased is survived by two sons, William Acres of Boissevain, Cuthbert, Dominion City, and five daughters, Mrs. Simpson, Dominion City, Mrs. Wellband, Strasburg, Sask. Mrs. Leonard, Saskatoon, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Brisley, Winnipeg.

Widespread was the deep regret expressed over the very sudden death of Mrs. J.D., a lady who belonged to one of the best known families in this part of the country. She died on Monday morning shortly after midnight.

Mrs Robertson, who was in her 72nd year, had not been in the best of health for some time, but there was no anticipation that her illness would terminate fatally so soon. Indeed she was out driving on Sunday afternoon with her son, and in the morning Mrs Robertson and other members of the family had attended the communion service in Almonte Presbyterian church. About midnight she complained of diziness, and became gradually worse. Half an hour afterwards, despite the best of care, she passed away. Mrs Robertson had suffered for some time from attacks of dizziness, and had one in church a few years ago.

Her maiden name was Sarah Jane Scott. She was the daughter of the late William Scott and Elizabeth Hampton. She was married to J.D. Robertson in 1869. they had nine children, who with her husband all survive. Thus her death is the first break in the large family. the children are William H. Robertson, of Ramsay; George of Peace River; Edward, of Stettler, Alberta; Ernie, at home; Elizabeth (Mrs A.H. McLean) of North Battleford, Saskatchewan; Eva(Mrs Alton Matthews) of Ramsay; Edith (Mrs Wm Anderson) of Ramsay; Sadie (Mrs W.J. Haire) of Toronto; and Ethel at home. One sister and three brothers also survive: Mary (Mrs William Robertson of Union Hall; Thomas Scott, James Scott and William Henry Scott, of Manitoba.

The funeral which was held on tuesday from the family home to the Presbyterian cemetery on the 8th Line of Ramsay, was very largely attended. Relatives on both sides, themselves numbered very many and their were many old friends from a distance. Mr robertson and his son william are amongst the most respected elders of Almonte Presbyterian church and so there was a large representation from that congregation. the automobiles and other conveyances must have strung out over a mile as they proceeded slowly to the cemetery.

The services at the home and grave were conducted by Rev J.D. McCrae, her minister, and the pallbearers were: Messrs Alton Matthews, Roy Roberston, William Miller, William Anderson, Robert Young and W.E Scott.

The funeral of the late William Henry Scott, who passed away in his 81st year at his home on Malcolm Street, early Monday morning, was held Tuesday afternoon, July 11th, at 2 p.m. He was born at Boyd Settlement, Ramsay Township, a son of the late William Scott and Elizabeth Hampton of Union Hall.
In the year 1881 he was married to Rachel Evans of Clayton. He made his home in Almonte and District, until 17 years ago when he left for Saskatchewan where he was employed by National Railways. Mr and Mrs Scott returned to their home in Almonte to celebrate their Golden Wedding in 1931, and for the past two years Mr Scott has been in poor health.
Many beautiful floral tributes were received from the family and friends. the pallbearers were Messrs Bert Young, Roy Robertson, Ernest Robertson, Bert Evans, Harold Prescott and Harry Houston. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and three sons, William Harvey Scott of Almonte, and Alston and James of Melville, Sask; three daughters Ila, Mrs H.L. Coxford of Almonte; Lucy, Mrs Frank Snow, of Fort William and Bessie, Mrs George Van Iderstine of Moose Jaw, and two brothers, John A. Scott of Toronto; and W.E. Scott of Almonte. Three sisters, Mrs Robert Young of Almonte, Mrs J. Robertson of Castor, Alta, and Mrs W.S. Baldwin of Shoal Lake, Man, also survive.

A highly esteemed member of the community in the person of Mrs Robert W. Young, passed away at her home on the 10th line of Ramsay Township on Tuesday August 28 in her 87th year. Mrs Young has been in declining health since March and was confined to bed for the past three months.

Born at Union Hall on March 9, 1870, she was the eldest daughter of William Scott and his wife Mary Jane Kemp.

On July 10, 1901 she was married to Robert W. Young who predeceased her.

She leaves three sons and two daughters, Dr. W.S. Young of Geneva, N.Y.; John E., of Toronto; Robert A., 10th line of Ramsay Township; Jeanne O. of Toronto and Marion, Mrs M.F. Teskey of Calgary, Alta; five grandchildren, Peter, Jim and Jane Young of San Francisco, Mrs Jack Laycock (Joan Young), Summerside P.E.I.; Robert W. Young of Geneva, N.Y.; and one great grandchild, John Stephen Laycock.

One sister, Jean, Mrs John Robertson, of Edmonton also survives.

The funeral service was held in Almonte United Church on Thursday, August 30 at 2:30 p.m. the minister Rev J. Ray Anderson officiated and internment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Messrs Kenneth Scott, Morley Alexander, Ernest Robertson, Roy Robertson, Bob McKay and George Robertson.

A. Jean Robertson passed' away in Edmonton on March 13, 1968. Born Agnes Jean Scott at Clayton, Ontario, May 3, 1871 she married John Robertson in August 1909 and came to homestead in the district northeast of what later became the town of Castor, residing in the Knob Hill district until 1935.
Since 1937 she has resided with her daughter in Edmonton, her husband having predeceased her on January 12, 1930.
Her only child Ruth, Mrs. T. Fraser survives.
Funeral services were held from Hainstock and Son Ltd. Funeral Home Edmonton, Friday, March 15, 1968 at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. K, J. Challoner and Rev. R. B. Layton officiating and on Saturday, March 16, 1968 from Knox United Church, Castor with Rev. George Rumbold officiating, followed by interment in the family plot in Castor Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stuart Irving, Charles Pigeon, Wm. Seth, Wm. Shipton, Isaac Bateman and Allan Bateman. Hainstock and Sons Ltd., Edmonton were in charge.

Final tribute was paid Mrs. William Banning who died in Rosamond Memorial Hospital. She was 81. Services were held from the Kerry-Scott Funeral Home, Elgin Street. Interment was in Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. J. R. Anderson minister of the Almonte United Church officiated. Mrs. Banning was a daughter of the late William Scott and his wife the former Mary Jane Kemp of Ramsay Township. She received her early education in Ramsay and in 1892 she married William Baldwin of Almonte who predeceased her in 1935. In 1938 she married the late ' William Banning who died in April 1947. During her first marriage she lived in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

The funeral of the late John Alexander Scott was held on Thursday afternoon, Dec 3rd, from the home of his brother W.E. Scott, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Service were conducted at the residence and grave by Rev J. Ray Anderson, pastor of Almonte United Church. Mr Scott died in Toronto on Monday, Nov 30th, in his 78th year. The body was brought here Wednesday afternoon and rested at the home of his brother until Thursday afternoon. Born at the Scott homestead on the first line of Ramsay near Union Hall, the late Mr Scott was a son of the late Wm Henry Scott and his wife, Mary Jane Kemp. He is survived by his wife, the former Fanny Johnstone; by a son, Kenneth Edward, on the mechanical staff of the Toronto Star, and two grandchildren; one brother, W.E. of Almonte and three sisters, namely, Mrs R.W. Young (Lucinda) 10th line of Ramsay; Mrs Wm Banning (Adeline) of Almonte and Mrs Robertson (Jean) of Edmonton. Deceased was educated at the rural school near his Ramsay home and in Almonte. While a young man, he learned the printing trade under the late Wm Pittard in the office of the old Almonte Times. From there he went to the Kingston Whigg, to Hamilton and Toronto. He often visited his brother in Almonte during his long residence in Toronto and even after he retired and was in indifferent health he enjoyed coming here and having a holiday during which he went aback to the homestead to renew scenes of his youth.

Former Mayor and Warden of County Dies at Home Here

Almonte lost one of its most prominent citizens on Wednesday morning in the death of William Edward Scott which occured at his home on Elgin Street following an illness of several months. He had enjoyed phenomenally good health up tothe latter part of 1953, and it was often remarked of him that he was one of the best preserved men in town for his age.

Born on a farm on the second line of Ramsay near Union Hall, a son of William Scott and Mary Jane Kemp, Mr Scott was educated in the country school near his home and at Almonte High School. While a young man he went to Toronto where he worked with an undertaking firm until 1904 when he purchased the business from the late L. W. Shipman, which he carried 0n ever since.

50th. Business Aniversary
Having taken stock, Mr. Scott reopened the store to the public on May 4th. 1904, and it was from that day that he really dated his connection with the business life of Almonte, celebrating anniversaries from time to time as the long period of years unfolded until he came to his 50th in May of this year. By that time he was in indifferent health and was confined to his home with Mr. R. A. Goodison, an experienced furniture dealer and enbalmer, in charge at the store.

In the long period that has elapsed Mr Scott was singularly successful in his own business and in municipal affairs. His first venture in public life was when he was elected as a trustee to the public school board, soon after coming here. He then migrated to the Electric Light Commission, as it was known at the time, and in 1911 became reeve. His career in the County Council brilliant. He was an able representative of the town and when his colleages raised him to the Wardenship in 1916 he filled that high office with ability and destiction.

Elected to Mayor
Having fulfilled his ambition on the County Council, Mr Scott sought and was elected to the mayoralty of Almonte in 1918 and again in 1921 and 1924. It was during his last term that the present renerating plant was constructed.
After that Mr Scott retired to private life for a considerable time. As he often said to his friends, he did not expect to come back. But in 1943 he was prevailed upon to seek the mayoralty once again, together with a slate of colleagues of whom he approved. He continued to hold office until 1946 when he retired again. this time in spite of pressure brought to bear on him from time to time he adhered to his decission not to re-enter public life.

He Wrought Well
during his time in the Council as Mayor, many progressive steps were taken that will live long in the memory of those fellow citizens who were old enough to appreciate them and who appreciate him. The late Mr. Scott had great administrative ability, was a good speaker and was blessed with a fine appearance. He had an alert manner, a spingy step and gave the impression of being capable and able to grasp a subject without much exertion. He always felt it was a rather unique distiction to have been mayor of the town when World War One ended and again when World War Two was concluded.

Had Many Interests
He was a member of Mississippi Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and a past master; also a member of Granite Chapter. He belonged to the Presbyterian Church up to the time of Union and later to the United Church. He was interested in many forms of sport. Thes included hockey, which he always supported, golf which he played in late years, curling and fishing. He was one of the charter members of the Pickeral Piont Fishing club and up to a few years ago enjoyed going to White Lake for a Holiday.
taken all around Ed, as he was known to many, was an oustanding citizen of the town who will be sadly missed in many ways.

In 1906, Mr Scott married the late Effie James who predeceased him in December, 1931. A daughter and son survive in this first family, namely, Marjorie (Mrs. C.R. McDowall), Carleton Place, and Allan Ottawa South Druggist. In 1938 he married Loretta Foy of Almonte who survives him along with three children: Judith, Robert and Kevin.

Mr Scott was one of a family of six - two brothers and four sisters. Of these only three sisters survive, namely Mrs John Robertson (Jean) of Edmonton; Mrs Robert Young, (Lucinda) of Almonte and Mrs William Banning (Addie) of Carleton Place. He was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Frank Alexander and by on brother, J.A Scott of Toronto.

the funeral will be held from the family residence, Elgin Street, Friday afternoon. Service at 2.00 o'clock. Interment in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Final Tribute Paid Former Mayor Of Almonte at Funeral on July 23

The funeral of the late W.E. Scott, held from the family residence, Elgin Street, Friday afternoon, July 23rd. was largely attended not only by people from the immidiate district but from many neighbouring towns in the Ottawa Valley.

Mr Scott, a former councillor, reeve and mayor of Almonte and ex-warden of the County, was widely known. He died on Wednesday, July 21st, following an illness of several months duration.

Following his death, the flag on the town hall was hauled to half mast as a tribute to one who served to town well in several important capacities.

Services at the home and at the grave in the Auld Kirk Cemetery were conducted by Rev J. Ray Anderson, pastor of Bethany United Church.

The following acted as honourary pallbearers: Edward James, W.A James, John Lindsay, R. A. France, George Hourigan, D.W. Snedden, E.P. Coady, James Abram, William Anderson, James Connery, D.K. Fraser, Lorne James, Louis Peterson, Wm. Shaver.

Active pallbearers were: Roy Robertson, Ernest Robertson, R.A. Young, Kenneth Scott, and M.K. Alexander.

Among a profussion of floral offerings were the following from organizations and firms with which the deceased had been connected in his lifetime: Town of Almonte, Peter's Point Fishing Club, the Board of Park Management, Almonte Girl Guides, Public Utilities Employees, Elliot Brthers, Lanark County Council and Officials, Ottawa and District Funeral Directors Association, Officers and Members of Mississippi Lodge, A.F. & A.M., 147 Dominion Manufacturers Ltd.

Funeral of Mrs. Alexander
The remains of the late Mrs. Frank Alexander, who died at Govan, Sask. last week reached Almonte on Sunday morning, accompanied by her husband. the funerl took place on Monday afternoon from the residence of her brother, Mr. W. E. Scott, and among the town friends who attended were others from smiths Falls, Carleton Place, clayton and other places. The remains were placed in the eighth line cemetery vault.

Word of the sudden death of Mrs Frank N. Alexander (nee Minnie Scott), was received on Tuesday, February 1st, by her brother, Mr W.E. Scott, of town. A letter received the day before contained no hint, even of illness, which added to the sudden shock. The late Mrs Alexander was the youngest daughter of Mrs S. Baldwin, by her former husband, the late Wm Scott, was born in Ramsay, and was 34 years of age. She taught school in Almonte for several years, and in 1907 she went west to take a position as teacher at Govan, Sask. About five years ago she was married to Mr Frank N. Alexander, who, with two children, a boy of four years and a little girl of two years, are left to mourn, besides her mother, three sisters and two brothers. These are Mrs R.W. Young, of Ramsay; Mrs John Robertson, of Castor, Alta; Mrs W.S. Baldwin, of Govan, Sask; Mr W.E. Scott, town. Mrs Alexander's death is the first break in the family circle since her father's. The remains are being brought to Almonte for burial, and are expected to reach her on Sunday morning's Imperial Limited. The funeral will take place on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of her brother, Mr W.E. Scott.

LeTang of Dominion City was shot and killed by the accidental discharge of a shot gun, last Thursday, Mr. Letang prepared to go out for a chicken hunt alone and equipped himself with a belt of cartridges and a double-barrel shotgun, in a single rig. Less than an hour from the time he started, and about three miles from Dominion City, Mr. Letang was found by a lady driving to town, alongside the road, with the contents of one barrel discharged through his body and his clothes on fire; the cartridge belt that was strapped around his waist had several cartridges discharged in it by the fire from his clothes.
Mr. Letang was a prosperous and popular man of his neighborhood, about thirty five years of age and married. Some years ago he was a resident of this country and owned a farm on Tongue River near Paul Johnson's on the road to Bathgate.

Pioneer resident Of Dominion City Dies At Age 84-
Mrs. Ida Jane Simpson, 84, pioneer resident of Dominion City, Man. who died Saturday in Morris, Man. was buried Monday in Dominion City Cemetery following funeral service in Dominion City United Church, Mark Parsons officiated.
Mrs. Simpson was born in Almonte, Ont. and came to Dominion City district in 1878 with her parents, via the Great lakes, the United States and the Red River steamer Lord Selkirk. Then settled near Roseau Crossing which later became Dominion City, a year before the railroad. Her mother the late Mrs. Robert Scott helped drive the last spike in the first rail line in the Canadian West.
She was the first woman automobile driver in the district and for twenty years "drove the mail" from Dominion City to Greenridge and Woodmore. She was an active member of the United Church Ladies Aid and Women's Institute, Honorary President of the Canadian Women's Auxiliary and Honorary President and life member of the Ladies Curling Club.
Her husband Willet Irvin died in 1917. A son, Robert, died in England during the First World War and another son Willett died in 1917.
Surviving are two sons, Maurice and Earle, three daughters, Mrs. C.D. Gaynor, Mrs. W Lowe and Mrs. H. Anderson; one brother Will and three sisters, Laura, Lyla and Myrtle.

Residents of Almonte and Appleton community were greatly shocked to learn of the sudden death of William Henry Robertson, eldest son of the late James D. and Mrs Robertson, on Tuesday, February 21st. Mr Robertson would have been 62 years of age on the 12th of March. Forty years ago deceased married Alice Emmeline Rae. Surviving are his widow, four sons, Dr Bertram of Shellbrooke, Sask.; Dr. Russell of Preeceville, Sask.; Harold of the 11th line of Ramsay and Arthur at home. Left to mourn Mr Robertson's loss are also three brothers and five sisters, George of Arras B.C.; Edward at Vegreville, Alta.; Ernest on the homestead; Elizabeth, Mrs McLean, Edmonton; Miss Ethel, Ramsay; Sadie, Mrs Haire, Toronto; Edith, Mrs Wm Anderson, 9th line Ramsay; Eva, Mrs Alton Matthews, 9th line of Ramsay. The deceased was a Liberal in politics, and for four years served on the Ramsay Council. For many years he was president of the Farmers' Club, and also a director of the N.L.A.S. Formerly Mr Robertson attended St Andrew's Church of Almonte of which he was an elder as was his father before him. Latterly he was an elder and the treasurer of the United Church of Appleton. Mr Robertson was always ready to help in any good work, a man of ability, a good farmer and a good citizen. Fifteen years ago Mr Robertson bought the farm on the 11th line of Ramsay, formerly occupied by Mr Peter Stewart, Toronto. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon, February 25th, at 2.30 p.m. from his late residence, 11th line Ramsay to Auld Kirk Cemetery. Service will he held at the home at 2 o'clock.

Funeral of Wellknown Ramsay Farmer Held Saturday To Auld Kirk Cemetery.?/b?
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for the late W.H. Robertson wellknown Ramsay farmer of the Appleton district, who died suddenly on the preceding Tuesday. Mr Robertson was one of the outstanding farmer of Ramsay township, had long taken an active interest in public affairs and his sudden passing at the early age of 62 was a great shock to his wide circle of friends and acquaintances. In his time Mr Robertson had served on the township council and was also assessor for Ramsay. He was interested in the annual fair of the North Lanark Agricultural Society and was a director in the livestock branch. At the time of his death he was an elder in the Appleton United Church and an active officer in the Ramsay Farmers' Club. Deceased was the eldest son of the late James D. Robertson and Sarah Jane Scott and was born 62 years ago near Clayton. Forty years ago he married Alice Emmeline Rea, of Ramsay. For a time they lived in Almonte, after which they settled on a farm in Ramsay where they have since resided. Surviving are his widow, four sons. Also left to mourn are three brothers and five sisters, George of Arras, B.C.; Edward, of Vegreville, Alta.; Ernest in Ramsay; Mrs A.H. McLean, Edmonton, Alta.; Mrs Wm Haire, Toronto; Mrs Alton Mathews, Mrs William Anderson and Miss Ethel Robertson of Ramsay. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in the district, testifying to the high esteem in which the late Mr Robertson was held. Services was conducted at the home by Rev Andrew McLauchlin, of Trinity United church, assisted by Rev C.D. McLellan, of Bethany United church. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk cemetery. The pallbearers were his four sons. Among the many floral offerings received were a floral basket from the directors of the N.L.A.S.; wreaths from the Session and Board of Mangers of Appleton United Church; students of the class of '33 Kemptville Agricultural School and Students' Council of the school; pillow, the family; sprays, Ramsay U.F.O.; friends Shellbrooke, Sask.; brother and sisters; Rea Brothers and Miss G.M. Metcalfe of Ottawa. Friends and relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Dr B. Robertson, Shellbrooke, Sask.; Dr Russell Robertson, Preeceville, Sask; Mrs Wm Haire, Toronto; Mr Joseph H. Rea, Toronto; Mr W.B. Rea, St Catharines; Miss G.M. Metcalfe, Ottawa. Owing to the distance, Mrs McLean, Edmonton, Mr Geo Robertson, Arras, B.C. and Mr Ed Robertson Vegreville, Alta, were unable to be present.

William married Alice Emaline Rea on 21 Dec 1892 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. ?/b?Miss Mary Ethel Robertson, daughter of the late James D. Robertson and Sarah Jane Scott, passed away on Wednesday, July 25th at the home of her brother-in-law, Mr Wm Anderson, 9th line Ramsay. Deceased was born near Clayton Village and attended the Almonte High School. For some years Miss Robertson taught school but about 30 years ago she was stricken with rheumatism which developed into arthritis and has been a great suffer ever since. Surviving are four sisters and three brothers. Elizabeth, Mrs Alex McLean, Edmonton; Sadie, Mrs Wm Haire of Toronto; Eva, Mrs Alton Matthews and Edith, Mrs Wm Anderson, Ramsay; George of Arras, B.C.; Edward of Vegreville, Alta., and Ernest of Ramsay. The funeral will take place on Friday, July 27th, 1934, at 2.30 o'clock p.m. from the residence of Mr and Mrs William J. Anderson, 9th line Ramsay, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. ?/b?The funeral of the late Miss Ethel Robertson which took place last Friday was very largely attended, not only by a large circle of relatives and friends but by many from a distance, whose deep sympathy had been excited for the suffer, who through so many years had courageously borne a burden of suffering without hope of recovery. We extend sincere sympathy to Mr and Mrs Wm Anderson, Mr and Mrs Alton Matthews and other friends, who so devotedly ministered to the comfort of the deceased. The sudden death of Mr W.H. Robertson a year and a half ago made a great blank in her life. Mr Robertson made her welfare one of the primary objects of his life. The ministers in attendance were Rev Edwards, Baptist minister of Carleton Place, assisted by Rev McLauchlin of Trinity, and Rev Aird of the Baptist Church, Almonte. The pallbearers were Messrs. Harold, Arthur, George and Roy Robertson. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr Archie Gemmill, Mrs Ferrier and Mrs Moore from Renfrew; Misses Ruth and Mary Robertson from Peace River District and Many from Perth and vicinity.

Mrs Alton Matthews passed away in the Carleton Place Memorial Hospital on Thurs. Aug. 17, after a lengthy period of ill health. Mrs Matthews who was in her 76th year was the former Eva Anna Robertson. For many years she and her husband farmed on the 9th line of Ramsay Township until they retired to Carleton Place several years ago. Besides her husband she leaves one son and two daughter: Allan of Hamilton; Ruth, Mrs Start McArton of Stirling and Kay, Mrs Earl Lowe of King. She is survived also by one sister Sadie, Mrs Wm Hare, Toronto and one brother, Mr Ernest Robertson of Almonte. The funeral of Mrs Alton W. Matthews took place on Saturday afternoon from the Fleming Bros Funeral Home, Lake avenue west, where service was conducted by Rev L.M. Smith. Interment was made in Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mrs Matthews died in hospital on August 17 after a lengthy illness. She was in her 76th year and had resided on Sarah street. The former Eva Anna Robertson, she was born in 1885 in Ramsay, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James Robertson. She was educated in Almonte and attended the Baptist Church here. She was married to Mr Matthews in Ramsay in December, 1911. Surviving besides her husband are a son, Alan R. Ernest John Robertson, Country Street, Almonte, died December 20 in St; Catherine's General Hospital at the age of 86. He had been ill for two months.
Born May 1, 1894, Mr. Robertson was the son of the late James D. Robertson and Sarah Jane Scott, also of Almonte. He grew up and was educated here and until his retirement had farmed on the 9th. concession of Ramsay township.
In August 1922, Mr. Robertson was married in Almonte to Lizzie Lindsay (Snedden), who predeceased him in 1974. Mr. Robertson was a senior elder of the Almonte United Church.
He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Marie Sexton of St. Catharines, three grandchildren, Lauraine (Mrs Bernard Knelson), John Ernest and Andrea Sexton, and by ttwo great grandchildren, Nathan and Ryan Knelson. Mr Robertson also had three brothers and five sisters who all predeceased him.
A public funeral was held December 22 from the Kerry Funeral Home. Rev John Lougheed conducted the service. Burial took place at the Auld Kirk Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bert Lowry, Robert Anderson, Angus McCormick, Donald Buchan, Robert Andrews and Boyd Jamieson.

William Harvey Scott
Fitting tribute to the memory of the late william Harvey Scott was paid at his funeral on Thursday Nov 5th, by a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives.
Mr Scott had been in apparent good health until 10 days before his death when he suffered a heavy stroke from which he did not rally. He passed away on tuesday, Nov 3rd, in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital. He was in his 72nd year.
Born in Ramsay Township in Union Hall district, Mr Scott was a son of the late William Henry Scott and his wife, Rachel Evans. When he was 10 years of age, the family moved to the farm near Almonte now owned by Ernest Robertson. Ashort time later they moved to town.
As a young man, he entered the employy of the rosamond Woollen Company where he served for many years as an overseer of thew Warping and winding Department.
In 1907, he married Miss Mary E. Davis of Almonte who survives with tow sons, Harvey Arthur and Edward Davis, and one grandson, David Scott. Ason, Kenneth Bethune, predeceased him at the age of 18 years. He also leaves two sisters, Ila, Mrs Herbert Coxford, of Almonte and Bessie, Mrs Geo Van Iderstine of Saskatoon; and one brother, James Scott of Melville, Sask.
Mr. Scott was a quiet, kindly man who was popular with a large circle of friends. He loved the outdoors and derived great pleasure from his frequent fishing trips to White Lake.
He was a member of Almonte United Church
He Rev J. Ray Anderson officiated at the service which was held at his home, Malcolm Street, Almonte.
The pallbearers were Messrs Chas Houston, Louis Peterson, Harold Prescott, Geo Pretty, Wm Munro and Walter Morton.
among the beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from the employees of the Rosamond Woolen Company and Carleton Wholesale Limited.
Internment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

I have a number of photos of the Evans family. Don gave me access to all his mothers family research. I also communicated with a lady who was a decendant of Catherine Evans and Mortimer James Young. She lives in Saskatchewan, I visited her about 15 Years ago."

Obituary: Mrs. Herb Coxford

A long time resident of Almonte, Sarah Ila Scott Coxford passed away at the Almonte Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness, on Monday November 4th. in her 88th year.
Born at clayton, Ontario, on April 12th 1887, she was the eldest daughter of William Henry Scott and Rachel Evans. Several years later the family moved to Almonte.
In 1910 she married Herbert L. Coxford, of Almonte, who predeceased her in 1964. She was a member of Almonte United Church and in her younger years took part in many organizations of the Church.
She is survived by one son, and three daughters: Edwin, winnipeg; elizabeth (Mrs R. Duncan), Almonte; Kathleen (Mrs C. M. Thomson) Mississauga; Ruth. (Mrs K. Fresque), Ottawa; and twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Surviving is a sister, Bessie (Mrs George Van Iderstine), Saskatoon. Four brothers and one sister predeceaseed her, Harvey, Eddie, Alston, James and Lucy (Mrs Frank Snow)
the funeral was held November 6th, 1974, from the Kerry Funeral Home in Almonte, rev Robert McCrea of the Almonte United Church conducted the service. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

A Tragedy
The closing hours of Good Friday were marked with as sad an occurance as has been recorded in Almonte in many years - the accidental death of Thomas Edward Scott. He was a son of W. H. Scott of New England and a boy well known and well liked in town. He was just beginning to develop and gave every promise of making a fine athlete. It seems hard to realize that one so full of the vigour of life should so suddenly be called away. He was alighting from a freight at the station about eight o'clock Friday evening when in some manner he slipped and fell under the wheels. His leg was completely severed. Medical help was quickly on hand, and he was removed to the hospital, but the loss of blood and shock had been too much and the power we call life departed Saturday evening. He was sixteen years of age. The funeral on Monday was very large. Among the floral tributes were: Wreath from the Victoria hockey team, wreath from the knitters' hockey team and a pillow from his chums.

Edith Scott passed away in Surrey Hospital, B.C. on Saturday, October 8 in her 75th. year.
Miss Scott had suffered a stroke about a month ago in her home at cloverdale, B.C.
Funeral service was held from the Dominion City United Church Friday October 13 at 2 p.m. Rev. H. Varah officiated. Interment was in the local cemetery. Mordue Funeral home of Winnipeg, were in charge of arrangements
Palbearers were J.M. Waddell, Mal Raw, Neil Sullivan, Clark Hunter, R.B. Glan and W.H. (Jim) Hancox.
Miss Scott was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Scott, pioneer family of the district . She lived most od her life in Dominion City, until recent years when she moved to Cloverdale, B.C.
She was a life member of the United Church of Canada and was an active worker in the church organizations while in Dominion City.
She is survived by one brother, Ray, of Winnipeg, four neices, two nephews and sister-in -law Mrs. Annie Scott of D.C.

?/b?A well-known Saskatoon educator, William John Gordon Scott died suddenly early this morning at his residence, 516 Twelfth Street, east. Mr. Scott was 68.
He was owner of the Scott Business College, which he headed up to the time of his death. He founded the college in 1933 and had resided here since 1931. Before coming here he taught for three years at Balfour Technical School in Regina.
He received his early education in Manitoba and his bachelor of arts degree from Queens Unversity, Kingston, Ont. He was born Dec. 25, 1885, in Dominion City, Man.
Mr. Scott was elected president of the Canadian Business Schools Association in 1952 at its annual convention in Oshawa, Ont.
He was actve in church activities and was an elder of Westminster United Church He had also been president of the Saskatoon Gyro Club.
He is survived his widow, Mrs Ethel Scott: two sons, Kenneth, a commerce student at the University of Alberta; and Keith at home: two brothers, Bert, Ottawa, and Ernest, Cloverdale, B C and one sister, Mrs. W. Brad of Woodlands, Man.
Funeral arrangements are pending. The Saskatoon Funeral Home is in charge.

?/b?A school trustee in Surrey for eleven years, and a past chairman of the School Board, Thomas Ernest Scott of 19441 North Bluff Road was buried on Tuesday.
He died at Shaughnessy military hospitul on March 26th, at the age of 70 years.
"Ernie" Scott had lived at Hazelmere for the .past 32 years. He was very active in community work there until illness in recent years, with Hall's Prairie Farmers' Institute one of his main interests over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two sons, Murray at Nanaimo and Joseph, Lethbridge; and two daughters, Mrs. Muriel Brodie, Hazelmere and Mrs. Connie McBurnie, North Surrey. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; one brother in Ottawa; and one sister in Manitoba.
Funeral services were held from Cloverdale chapel of S. Bowell &; Sons, with Rev. F. H. Golightly officiating. Interment took place at Hazelmere Cemetery.

She was predeceased by a brother Roy of Union Hall in 1971. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte, on Wednesday, November 29th. The service was conducted by the Rev Gordon C. The death of Mr Robert Alexander (Bert) Young, a highly respected citizen of the 9th Concession, Ramsay Township, occurred suddenly at his residence on Saturday, October 6th, 1979. He was 66. Mr Young farmed on Lot 23, in the ninth concession. He was an active member of Mississippi Lodge No 147 A.F.&A.M. and of Granite chapter No 61. He was a member of Almonte United Church. Born on the home farm in Ramsay, he was a son of the late Robert W. Young and his wife, Lucinda Scott, and received his education at S.S. No 15 Ramsay and the Almonte High School. He was married at Almonte on March 5, 1938, to the former Alma Williams, who survives. Also surviving are a brother, John E., of Toronto, and a sister, Mrs Marion A. Teskey of Victoria, B.C. Predeceased are a brother and a sister, William Scott Young and Jean Olive Young. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin Street, Almonte, on Tuesday, October 9, at 2 p.m., with Rev Mitchell officiating. Burial was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. The pallbearers were Bert Timmins, Russell Camelon, Clifford McDougall, Jack McPhail, George Robertson and Ross Craig.

MRS. C. R. MacDOWALL
Mrs. C. R. MacDowall, a native of Almonte and latterly a resident of Carleton Place died in Carleton Place Memorial Hospital on Monday morning, Oct. 19th. She had suffered a stroke at her residence on Victoria Street, Sunday afternoon. The former Marjorie Isabel Scott, she was born in Almonte, daughter of the late W. E. Scott and his wife, the former Effie James. She was educated at Almonte and at Queen's University. She was married to Dr. MacDowall in Almonte in June 1932, and they lived here where Dr. MacDowall opened a practice until 1942 when they moved to Carleton Place. Mrs. MacDowall was a member of Memorial Park United Church. Her chief interest was in the work of the Women's, Hospital Auxiliary and she was prominently associated with the Mississippi Golf Club and the Curling Club. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Pamela, a nurse-in training at Kingston and a brother, A. E. Scott of Ottawa. The body was at the Kerry- Scott Funeral Home, Almonte, where the funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. H. W. Giffin officiated. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.
