1964 Mrs. R. M. McNeely Paid Final Tribute

Following an illness of about three weeks, Mrs. Robert Miller McNeely passed away April 10 in Almonte General Hospital. The former Harriett Alice Thompson, she was a daughter of the late Robert Thompson and his wife, Charlotte Sheppard of Ramsay Township where she was born. On September 23, 1903 she married to Robert Miller McNeely of Beckwith Township in St. John's Anglican Church, Innisville. They farmed for many years in Beckwith. Her husband predeceased her in July 1929. Survivors include three daughters and four sons, (Muriel) Eric C. Simpson, Carleton Place; Earl J. McNeely, Bells Comers; Osmond E. McNeely and Howard W. McNeely, Carleton Place; Melvin M. McNeely, Ottawa: (Eleanor ) Mrs. Wilmer Lyons, Portland; (Vera) Mrs. Clinton J. McEvoy, Ottawa; also 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren: two sisters. Mrs. Ella Giles, Carleton Place and Mrs. Ada Smalley, Ossining, New York, U.S.A. The largely attended funeral was held from the Fleming Bros. Funeral Home, Lake Ave. West, on April 12 to St. James' Anglican church, Rev. G. A. Young and Rev. H. A. Horsey officiating. Interment the United cemeteries. The pallbearers were Walter Armour, Ernest Giles, Warner Giles, Howard McRae, W. E. Neely and James McNeely.

The funeral of William Thompson took place last Thursday afternoon from Fleming Bros Funeral Home, Lake avenue west to St James' Anglican Church where Canon W.R. Meakin of Almonte conducted the service. Interment took place in the parish cemetery. Mr Thompson died in Memorial Hospital May 8 after a illness of three weeks duration. He was in his 87th year and had resided on William street. Born in Ramsay Township, he was a son of the late Robert Thompson and his wife, Charlotte Sheppard. He attended St James' Church. He was first married to the former Ethel Lynch and later to the former Annie Hurdis. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs Beatrice Polworth of Cranston, R.I.; a granddaughter Janet Polworth; sister, Mrs Miller McNeely, Mrs Ellie Giles; Mrs Samuel Smalley, Mrs Violet Schoonmaker. The pallbearers were Howard McNeely, Hilton Giles, Warner Giles, William Griffith, Ernie Giles and Wesley Paul.

Ossie McNeely, aged 88 years, of Carleton Place passed away peacefully Sunday, September 4, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Ossie's sense of humour, compassionate nature, and caring for others continued to shine through to his last breath. Son of the late Osmond and Ellen McNeely of Carleton Place. He is survived by his four siblings: Allan (Myrtle) McNeely, Bob (Karen) McNeely, Dave (Iris) McNeely and Dorothy (Ike) Smith.

He is pre-deceased by his loving wife, Gwen (Hamilton) McNeely of 44 years. Dear father to Michael (Kelly) McNeely, Kim (Andy) Sparks, Ian (Tara) McNeely, Cathy (Bob) Haughian and Nadine (Patrick) O'Sullivan.

Ossie leaves behind his companion and travel partner, Ruth Illingworth.

Ossie loved music and singing and he spent many years pursuing his passion singing in the Capital City Chorus and numerous barbershop quartets. He was an active member throughout his life at the Westboro and Carleton Place Royal Canadian Legions; and he was a committed volunteer and fundraiser for many events around town. He was even known to step up as "Santa" and the "Easter Bunny" when called upon. Ossie was a kind and generous man and a loyal friend to many. At family gatherings he could always be found entertaining the children with songs and games. He will be forever missed by his grandchildren: Kaylin, Liam; Jenna (Jeff), Caitlin (Alex), Lauren; Cooper, Bennett, Olivia, Mariah (Kyle), Matthew (Virginia); Michael (Jessica); Emily (Tom) and Jeffrey; and his great-grandchildren: Andy, Will, Henry, Charlie, John, Blake, Benny and Ryder.

Ossie's family wish to thank Dr Scott Higham/Dr Emilie Meyers and the amazing nurses and staff at the Carleton Place Hospital.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Ave. Carleton Place on Thursday, September 8th from 2 - 4pm and 7 - 9pm. A Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel on Friday, September 9th at 11:00am, with a reception to follow at the Carleton Place Legion Branch 192, Carleton Place at 1:00pm.
