    THOMAS H. GILES
    Following a short illness, Thomas H. Giles passed away on Thursday, May 29th, at the R. M. Hospital, Almonte, in his 85th year. Born near Clayton, he was a son of the late James Henry Giles and his wife, Mary Smith. In 1912, he married Margaret Ellen Smithson who predeceased him in 1940. He is survived by three daughters (Myrtle), Mrs. O. MacDowall; (Mildred), Mrs. Russell Lowe, both of Pakenham; (Eleanor), Mrs. Howard Boal of Almonte and four sons, Harvey, Willard and Mervin, all of Pakenham and James of Edmonton, Alta. A daughter, Marion, died in 1933. He also leaves three sisters, (Eliza Jane) Mrs. Richard Evans of Burritts Rapids; Mary A. of Clayton; (Margaret), Mrs. Jas. Jackson of Edmonton, Alta., and one brother, Edward Giles of Almonte. William, deceased. The funeral was held from the homestead on Saturday, May 31st, at 2 p.m. to St. Mark's Anglican Church, Pakenham, with Rev. A. Irwin officiating. Service at the house was conducted by Rev. Wm. Sunter, minister of the United Church, Pakenham. Pallbearers were Murray Reid, Gordon Donaldson, Jack Forsythe, Keith Johnston, Holly Smith and Ira Smith. Interment was in St. Mark's Cemetery, Pakenham.

    Thomas married Margaret Ellen Smithson in 1912.     Miss Mary A. Giles
    The death occurred on Saturday of Miss Mary A. Giles, a life-long resident, of this district and village. She was able to celebrate her 91st birthday on March 10th of' this year. When unable to carry on alone, she spent a few years with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Giles of Cedar Hill and for the past couple of years, she was in nursing homes but passed away in the R. M. Hospital in Almonte. She was always remembering someone with gifts or in some way; remembering the sick and those in need - a real friend to many and a regular attendant of St. George's Anglican Church and W.A. of the church. Miss Giles was the last of the family but is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Her funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the Kerry-Scott Funeral Home to St. George's Church, Clayton where a lovely service was conducted by Rev. M. F. Oldham and interment was in the Anglican cemetery in Pakenham. The pallbearers were five nephews, Messrs. Harvey, Willard and Mervin Giles of Cedar Hill; Roy and William Evans of Burritt's Rapids and Mr. W. J. Halpenny, Clayton.

    Mr. William J. Giles
    The death occurred on Sunday evening of Mr. William J. Giles a life-Long resident of this district. He had been in failing health for some time and was a patient in the R. M. Hospital. Two weeks ago he returned to his home where he passed away. He was a son of the late James Giles and his wife Marv Ann Smith and was born on the farm where he had resided and was 72 years old. He is survived by two brothers. Thomas of Pakenham and Edward of Almonte, three sisters. Eliza Jane, Mrs. R. Evans of Burritt's Rapids: Maggie, Mrs. James Jackson of Edmonton, Alta., and Miss Mary Agnes at home. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon and was very largely attended. friends coming a great distance to pay their last respects to one who was so well known. A beautiful service, was conducted in St. Georges Church, at Clayton, by Rev. D. F. Weener and interment made in the Anglican cemetery at Pakenham The pallbearers were Messrs. H. Richards, H. Rath, A. Nolan, H. Morrison, L. Wark and T. A. Edwards, Many beautiful floral tributes were received showing the high esteem in which deceased was held.

    WWI veteran Roy Reston Evans was born July 9, 1897 at Clayton. He was the son of Daniel Richard Evans and Eliza Jane Giles. He enlisted June 10, 1918 in Ottawa. The family's residence at that time was Oxford Mills. He was with the Second Depot Battalion E.O.R. Canadian Expeditionary Force. He served in England. He was discharged July 3, 1919. In 1921 he married Sarah Ellen Weir and they lived in the Oxford Mills area. He died in 1980 and is buried in Oxford Mills Union Cemetery.

    Marion Elizabeth Giles
    There passed away at her home in Cedar Hill on September 22, 1933, Marion Elizabeth Giles, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Giles, aged three years and one month. Her death came as a great shock to the many friends and neighbors and all who knew her. She had been, ailing for only, two weeks and nothing serious had been thought of .it, until Friday morning when she suddenly, became worse and she passed peacefully away at one o'clock. The funeral was held from her home on Sunday afternoon, September 24th, to St. Mark's Anglican Church, Pakenham, at three o'clock, thence to the cemetery. The service was conducted at the church and cemetery by the rector, the Rev. C. Adrian Bender: Left to mourn her loss besides her parents, are three sisters; and three brothers, Myrtle, Eleanor, Mildred, Harvey, James and Willard. The pallbearers were: Wilbert Donaldson, Jack Forsythe, Jack Wood and Kenneth Melanson. Among the beautiful floral tributes were: A broken circle from the family; sprays, Cedar Hill Women's Institute, Teachers and pupils of S.S. No. 1, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Fulton, and also many beautiful cut flowers.
