    Adam W. Craig Passes Suddenly
    Many pay Tribute To Respected Citizen of Almonte District A respected citizen of Almonte passed away, Tuesday in the person of Adam William Craig. He was only 63 years of age and while he had been subject to periodical trouble with his heart in the last few years his final illness was sudden and of such brief duration that word of his death came as a great shock to all who knew him. Mr Craig was born at Rosetta and was the only child of the late Adam Craig and Margaret McGonigal. He was brought up on the Lanark Township farm and occupied it until some 19 years ago when he purchased a farm in Ramsay Township from John Neilson and the Misses Neilson. This farm is now occupied by a son Ross. Mr and Mrs Craig having moved into Almonte nine years ago and purchased the present family home, corner of Elgin and Country streets, from the late Mrs John Cumming. For some years the late Mr Craig had acted as clerk of the session of Bethany Church and as secretary of the Ramsay Farmers' Club. He was a quiet man who made a point of attending to his own affairs, a good farmer who knew the meaning of hard, conscientious work and a fine neighbour. He will be greatly missed by many friends and former neighbours in Lanark, Ramsay, Almonte and other parts of the district. Mr Craig is survived by his wife, formerly Mary Ann Arnott, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James Arnott of Lanark Township and by a son and daughter, namely, A.R. Craig of Ramsay and Mrs J.B. Neilson (Elsie) of Ramsay. There are also six grandchildren, three in each of the families

    Mrs John B. Neilson
    The death of Mrs Elsie (Craig) Neilson occurred suddenly at
    the Almonte General Hospital on Friday, April 25th, 1969, as the result of a stroke. Born at Rosetta, Ontario, November 13th, 1901, she was the daughter of the late Adam Craig and Mary Arnott. In 1916 her family moved to the eleventh line of Ramsay, where she lived until June 27th, 1923, when she was united in marriage to John Burns Neilson. To this union was born four children, Wilfred Ross, Almonte; William John Lorne, Kingston; Alice May (Mrs Wilmer Melanson), Pakenham, and Marion Elsie (Mrs Bert Timmins), Blakeney, who survive along with her husband, Also felt to mourn are ten grandchildren and her only brother, A. Ross Craig, Almonte. They farmed on the twelfth line of Ramsay until 1955 when they retired to 178 Church Street, Almonte. She was a faithful member of the United Churches in Appleton and Almonte and a Charter Member of the Appleton Women's Institute. Funeral services were held from the Kerry Funeral Home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery on Sunday April 27th. Pallbearers were John L. Virgin, J. Alex Stewart, Mack James, and three cousins, Robert Arnott, Grant Arnott and Elmer Goodfellow.

    Obituaries
    Allan Ross Craig, a highly respected member of this community passed away June 14 at the Almonte General Hospital after a short illness. He was in his 86th year. Born at Rosetta, Ontario, March 20, 1903, he was the son of the late Adam Craig and Mary Arnott. In 1916 he family moved to the 11th line of Ramsay where he lived until 1968 when he retired from farming and moved to 170 High Street in Almonte. He was united in marriage to Annie May Reid on September 1, 1926, She predeceased him March 10, 1960. In 1962 he married Susan Edith Fleming (Lillie). In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters: Dorothy (Mrs Lyle Reid) Pakenham; Jean (Mrs Keith Willows) Balderson; Lois (Mrs Graham Mowat) Nepean. There are also seven grandchildren, four step-children and several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister, Elsie (Mrs J.B. Neilson). Mr Craig was a dedicated farmer and loved his Clydesdale horses. he was quite devoted to his church where he was a member of the session for 52 years.

    Wilfred Ross Neilson
    Wilfred Ross Neilson, a life-long Almonte area resident, died suddenly Oct 2, 1995 at the Almonte General Hospital. He was 70. Mr Neilson was born April 8, 1925, the son of the late John Burns Neilson and his late wife Elsie Craig, both of Almonte. He received his education at S.S. # 11 Ramsay and Almonte high school after which he married Jean Struthers July 19, 1947 at Appleton United Church. Mr Neilson farmed for 21 years on the family farm on the 12th line of Ramsay and, after moving to Almonte, continue to work as a farm machinery mechanic until his retirement in 1989. He travelled extensively before his retirement, enjoyed spending time at the cottage, daily walks and playing shuffleboard. In addition to his wife Jean, Mr Neilson is survived by his brother Lorne (Edith) of Kingston, and sisters Alice (Wilmer) Melanson of Pakenham and Marion (Bert) Timmins of Almonte. The funeral took place at the Kerry Funeral Home Chapel in Almonte at 2 p.m. on Oct 5. Rev Colwell officiated. Interment at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rick Neilson, Barry Melanson, Harold McPhail, Tim Timmins, Darby Timmins (nephews) and Doug Fulton.
