Muriel Harriet Ritchie, beloved wife of Walter A. James passed away suddenly on Saturday, Feb 26th, at her home on Augusta Street, in her 69th year. Mrs James, a daughter of the late James R. Ritchie and his wife, Abigail Hilliard, was born in Pakenham Township. As a young girl she came with her family to Almonte where she was a highly respected member of the community. Also remaining to mourn her loss are three brothers, Gordon of Almonte; James and Ernest of Saskatoon and nine grandchildren. Although Mrs James' chief interests have always been in her family and home, the great number of floral tributes. acts of kindness and messages of sympathy received, gave testimony to the high esteem in which she was held by a multitude of friends who had been attracted to her by her mild manner and kindly disposition. The funeral which was largely attended, was held on Monday afternoon, Feb 28, from her residence to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Services at the house were conducted by Rev T. DeCourey Rayner of St John's Presbyterian Church of which Mrs James was a member. Those attending from out-of-town were Mrs Clarence Leishman, Mrs J.K. Montgomery, John James of Sudbury; Mrs Dan Leach of Victoria Mines; Mr and Mrs John Livingstone, Howard Ritchie of Kingston; Mr and Mrs Hilliard James and son Peter, of Toronto; Mr and Mrs Henry Ormond of Ottawa; Mr and Mrs Welland Storey, Mr and Mrs Earl Halpenny and Mr Albert Metcalfe of Pakenham. The pall-bearers were Messrs Edward James, E.P. Clement, Russell Kenny, D.W. Snedden, George Gemmill and John James.
