    Mr Robert Lawford
    Mr Robert Lawford, who has been a citizen of Almonte
    or vicinity all his life was afflicted with a stroke of the heart a
    short time ago, and although he received loving attention
    and care he gradually weakened and passed peacefully
    away on Saturday morning, 13 inst., at the age of 76 years.
    The funeral took place the following Monday afternoon
    and the services were conducted by Rev Geo Gomme.
    Robt Lawford was a son of a veteran of Waterloo and
    the Crimea, who having received his government grant
    came from the south of England and settled in the township
    of Beckwith where Robert was born. Three of the eleven
    children still survive, viz.: Mrs Dobson and Thos Lawford of
    Smiths Falls and Mrs Brownlee, of Ashton. Robert had a
    quiet and reliable life, chiefly as a farmer and a woodman.
    He was known far and wide for his ability in handling the
    axe. He was a member of the Baptist church, and was a
    Conservative in politics. In early life he married Sarah
    Thompson, sister of Geo Thompson, of our town. She
    passed away twenty-four years ago and left a family of five
    boys and 3 girls: Mrs Toop and Sidney, of Almonte; Earl of
    Westboro and George of Toronto, were both overseas for
    several years and won high honours. The other surviving
    members of their family are Robert, of Campbellford, and
    Mrs Sheriff Atkins of Gravelburg. William, the eldest, died in
    1908 and Alice in 1913.

    Sidney M. Lawford?/b?
    The death occurred in the Carleton Place and District
    Hospital on June 26th of Sidney M. Lawford in his 86th
    year. Born in Appleton the son of the late Robert Lawford
    and his wife Sarah Thompson, he attended the Carleton
    Place and Almonte Schools. He worked in the textile
    industry all his life ? and the last fifty years with the
    Rosamond Woollen Company in Almonte until he retired in
    1950 when he moved to Carleton Place to make his home
    with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Carns Lever.
    He was a member of the Baptist Church, taking a
    special interest in the Sunday School where he served as
    secretary-treasurer for 35 years.
    In his early years he played lacrosse and baseball and
    was keenly interested in all sports, an interest he
    maintained until his death.
    His wife the former Mary M. Moore predeceased him in
    1949. Surviving are two sons Wesley E. of Toronto, Clifford
    S. of Carleton Place, two daughters, Valda of Ottawa and
    Edith, Mrs Carn Lever of Carleton Place; also surviving are
    three grandsons, Robert of Barrie, Wallace of Ottawa Earl
    of Carleton Place and one granddaughter Aldyth Lawford
    Evans of Ottawa.
    The funeral took place on Tuesday, June 29th from
    Allan Barker Funeral Home with Rev John McPahail
    officiating. The pallbearers were Robert MacFarlane, Ray
    Moffatt, Howard McNeely, William Anderson, Herbert
    Dopson and Arthur Buchanan. Interment was in the Auld
    Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.

    Sydney married Mary Moore in 1895.     After an illness of several months there passed away at the Rosamond Memorial Hospital on Thursday, March 26th, Ada May Toop, beloved wife of Stuart King and mother of Tom King, in her 59th year. She was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W.A. Toop. She was born in Ramsay Township and lived her live in the Ottawa Valley. In June 1934 she was united in marriage to Stuart King of Tatlock. A year later they moved to Almonte. Mrs King was a member of the Almonte United Church. Although she did not enjoy good health herself, her life was devoted unselfishly in ministering to those who needed her help. Beside her husband and one son, she leaves to mourn her passing, three sisters, Mrs A.A. Waddington (Millie), Montreal; Mrs John Root (Lillie), Orton; Mrs Haines Root, (Pearl), Orton and two brothers, Oliver, Pakenham and Orval, Napanee, as well as many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon with Rev J. Ray Anderson officiating. Interment was in Auld Kirk cemetery. The pallbearers were nephews, Sidney and Billie Storie, Clarence Raycroft, Cecil King, Billie McVey and Lawrence Toop. Many floral tributes and expressions of sympathy were received testifying to the esteem in which Mrs King was held.

    Tom enjoyed a wide range of jobs over the years including a posting to Germany while he was serving in the Canadian Army. He enjoyed meeting people and made friends wherever he went, as well as volunteering with the Lanark Township Fire Department, the Snow Road Snowmobile Club, Lanark Civitan Club, the Children's Aid Society, and the Eganville Legion.

    Tom enjoyed playing classic country music throughout his lifetime, and was a frequent entertainer at the monthly jams in Lanark, Perth, Smiths Falls, McDonald's Corners, and Eganville.

    Interment of ashes will be at Guthrie United Cemetery, Clayton.

    Thomas married Donna Isabel Rintoul on 10 Sep 1966 in Clayton Village, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Donna (daughter of John Galbraith Rintoul and Laura Thompson) was born on 13 May 1944; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
