    Frederick Sydney Toop
    One of the oldest residents of Almonte passed away on Saturday, February 12, in the person of Mr Frederick Sydney Toop at the age of 90 years. The late Mr Toop was the son of William Toop and Elizabeth Eyers of Marsh, Wiltshire, England. He was married to Miss Rachel Sarah Haines at Westborough, in Wiltshire, in 1857 and if he had lived they intended celebrating the seventieth anniversary of their marriage on the 1st of July on the occasion of their sixty ninth anniversary they received a letter of congratulation from King George. They have resided in Almonte for 54 years with the exception of a year or two spent in Cornwall, in the home which Mr Toop built in the New England section on Christine street. Mr Toop was sick only a short time and his passing came as a shock to his friends. Besides his widow, who is 87 years old. he leaves to mourn his loss four sons and three daughters, namely William and Augustus of Almonte; Gordon of Ramsay and Percy, of Edmonton Alta; Nellie, Mrs Robt. Lees, of Moose Jaw; Lillie, Mrs Wm Hamilton, of Regina; Minnie, Mrs Wm. More of Ramsay; all of whom were present at the funeral. Arthur died about 23 years ago and two children in infancy He is also survived by 45 grandchildren and 36 great grand children. The funeral on Tuesday, which was largely attended was conducted by his pastor, Rev A.C. Dixon, of the Baptist Church of which deceased was the oldest member, assisted by Rev E.P.H. King, a former minister, now of Arnprior. Rev J.M. Rutherford and Rev J.R. MacCrimmon. Interment was made at the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault. The pallbearers were his four sons: Messrs William, Augustus, Gordon, Percy and a son-in-law Mr More also Mr Wm Simpson. Mrs Toop will live with her son, Mr Augustus Toop.

    Frederick married Rachel Sarah Haynes in 1857.     The death occurred on Monday, Jan 16th, of Minnie Julia Toop, widow of the late W.R. More, at the homestead on the 7th line of Ramsay, at the age of 86. Born at Wiltshire, England, in 1864, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Frederick Sidney Toop, she came to Canada with her parents at the age of eight and lived at Cornwall later coming to Almonte. She was married in April, 1883 to the late W.R. More and they resided in Ramsay Township. She leaves four sons and three daughters, Alfred of Carberry, Man.; William of Wood River, Ill.; Edwin and Cecil of Ramsay; Edith, Mrs Root of San Fransciso, Calif.; Ida, Mrs Frank Guerard, Carleton Place; Ethel, Mrs Percy DeRouchie, Meadville, P.A. Three brothers, W.A. Toop, Almonte; Gordon, Carleton Place and Percy, of Edmonton. One son, Welland, and one daughter, Minnie, predeceased her. Among the beautiful floral tributes were wreaths and sprays from the family, Shell Oil Co., Alton, Ill; Light Oil Dept., Alton Ill. The pall-bearers were Welland and Harvey Timmins, Walter More, James McKay, Wilbert McEwen and Harold Miller. Rev T. DeCourcy Rayner conducted the funeral service which was held at the home of her son, Cecil, on Wed., Jan 18th, at 3 p.m. to the Auld Kirk vault for interment in the family plot in the spring

    ?/b?Mrs. Llllla Hamilton, wife of William A. Hamilton, died Monday aternoon at her home, 2259 Lome street, at the age of 70. She was born in England, daughter of the lete Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Sydney Toop, of Almonte, Ontario. As a girl of s!x she came to Canada. In Ottawa she married Mr. Hamilton, who was In business there. In 1904 they moved west to Indian Head, and the following year moved to Reglna, which has since been their home. She was a prominent worker In First Baptist church.
    Beside her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Russell Kenney, 2318 Toronto street, and Mrs. Donald Reeves, 22 College Court, and two sons, Gordon, 837 Queen street, and Percy, Island Falls, Sask. She Is also survived by four brothers and two sister: Gordon, Augustus and William H. Toop, all of Almonte, Ontario, and Percy of Madison, Sask.; Mrs. W. R. Moore, Almonte, Ontario, and Mrs. Robert Lees, 122 Omlnica street, Moose Jaw. Her son, Percy, and her brother, Percy, were in Regina when she died. A son, Frederick William Hamilton, Great War veteran, predeceased her In Regina on April 19, 1933. Inspector Fred Toop, of the Regina city police, is a nephew.
    The funeral service will be held In First Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Or. Bowley Green will officiate and Interment will be made In Regina cemetery.
    The casket will be taken to tho church at 1 o'clock Wednesday, and will be open to the time of service.

    Mr William Henry Toop
    An aged and esteemed resident of Almonte for more than half a century, died Sunday afternoon at his residence, in the person of William Henry Toop, in his 80th year. He had been in poor health for the past year. Previous to his retirement some time ago he had been engaged in the textile industry. In religion he was a Baptist. Born at March, Wiltshire, Eng., in 1860, he was the son of Fredrick Sidney Toop and his wife Sarah Haynes. Some 60 years ago he came to Canada with his parents and settled in Almonte. Mr Toop was twice married. His first wife, Retta Ringrose, predeceased him in 1914. To this union four daughters and three sons survive, Mrs Ernest Little, Mrs Lester Ford, and Mrs James Guthrie, all of Almonte; Mrs Alex McLeod of Moosejaw, Sask.; Fred Toop of Regina and Harry and Sidney Toop of Brockville. Also surviving are his second wife, the former Miss Tena Fumerton; one son, Arthur; one sister and three brothers, Mrs William Moore, Ramsay; Gus of Almonte; Gordon of Ramsay an Percy Toop of Edmonton, Alta. There are also 15 great grandchildren and 30 grandchildren. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from his late residence on Euphemia Street, with interment in the Auld Kirk cemetery. Rev Wm Aird of the Baptist Church, assisted by Rev W.J. McBurney, of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, conducted the funeral service. The pallbearers were Messrs. Raymond Ford, William Toop, James Guthrie Sr., Alan Ford, Keith Little and Vincent Ford. Included in a profusion of floral tributed was a wreath from the Sons of England. On Monday evening the Sons of England, of which the deceased was a member, conducted a short funeral service. Mr Sidney Lawford acted as president and Mr Samuel Bradley as chaplain.

    Charles Gordon Toop
    Funeral services were held from the Comba Funeral Home, Almonte, on Wednesday, Dec. 15th, for the late Charles Gordon Toop, life-long resident of Ramsay. Mr. Toop was born at Almonte, Ont., on Sept 22nd, 1880, son of the late Frederick Sydney Toop and his wife Rachel Hynes. On Oct. 30th 1912, he married the former Margaret Doucett of Ramsay, who survives. Also surviving are seven sons: Arthur of Carleton Place. Frederick of Ramsay, Harry of Arnprior, William of Carleton Place, Albert of the R.C.A.F., London, Ont.; Ewen of the R.C.A.F., Calgary, Alta and Aylmer of Ramsay; two daughters, Mrs Levi Gimble (Mary), of Los Angles, Calif., and Mrs Lynn Goyne (Maybeth) of Yakima, Washington. One daughter, Dorothy predeceased him in March 1935. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Elder Hill of Ottawa. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The pallbearers were: John A. McArton, George Hilliard, Alex Munro, Norman Paul, Melville Paul and Cecil More.

    Charles married Margaret Matilda Doucett in 1912.     EDWIN L. MORE - The death of Edwin Lorne More occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Daniel W Munro on Sun., Jan. 17, 1965, in his 74th year after a lengthy illness. The late Mr. More was of a kindly nature and generous disposition. Born in Ramsay Township on June 17, 1891 he was the son of the late William R. More and his wife, Minnie Julia Toop. He helped his father farm until he bought his own farm in the spring of 1928, which he farmed until he sold it in 1948. He then worked in Appleton Mill for a time. Mr. More was married to the late Mina Richards on Sept. 14, 1927 in St. George's Church, at Clayton by Rev. C. L. G. Bruce. His wife predeceased him on November 13th, 1930. He leaves to mourn one daughter, Mary Mina, (Mrs. Daniel W. Munro), Ramsay and one son, Walter Edwin of Carleton Place; also ten grandchildren; two sisters, Edith, (Mrs. Root), San Francisco, Calif.; Ethel (Mrs. P. J. De Rouchie), Meadville, Pa.; and one brother, William Walter James, Wood River, Ill. Predeceased are Alfred L., Welland, Cecil E., Minnie and Ida, the late Mrs. Frank Guerard. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Wed., Jan. 20th at 2 p.m. The Rev. D. Leslie Elder of Almonte Presbyterian Church conducted the service and interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault. The pallbearers were Messrs; Andrew More, Fred Toop, Welland Timmons, Welland McKay, Wilbert McEwen and John Waddell. The flower bearers were hisfour grandsons, Steven and Randy More, Brian and Paul Munro. Many beautiful floral tributes were received, also contributions to the Ontario Heart Foundation Fund.

    OBITUARY
    MR. CECIL MORE - The death occurred suddenly in Almonte General Hospital on Saturday afternoon, February 29th of Cecil Earl More in his 65th year. Born in Ramsay Township, he was the son of the late W. R. More and his wife Minnie Julia Toop. He lived most of his life on the More homestead which was originally purchased from the Government in 1840 by his grandfather, James More. He retired in 1950 and moved to Almonte. On April 23. 1931 he married Miss Ann K. E. Drynan of Clayton who survives with five daughters: Elizabeth (Mrs. Lorne Hudson) Merrickville; Irene (Mrs. Ed Middleton) Ottawa; Margaret (Mrs. John Cochran) Almonte; Carmel, Ottawa and Isobel (Mrs. Donald Cathcart) Stittsville. He also leaves two brothers, Edwin L. of Ramsay and William J. of Wood River, Ill., and two sisters, Edith (Mrs. Root) San Francisco and Ethel (Mrs. P. J. DeRouchie) Meadville, Pa. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased him. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 3 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Leslie Elder of Almonte Presbyterian Church conducted the service and interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault. The pallbearers were Messrs: Wilbert McKay, Charles Symington, James McGregor, Melville Lockhart, Jack Gleeson and Andrew More. Many beautiful floral tributes were received.     After an illness of several months there passed away at the Rosamond Memorial Hospital on Thursday, March 26th, Ada May Toop, beloved wife of Stuart King and mother of Tom King, in her 59th year. She was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W.A. Toop. She was born in Ramsay Township and lived her live in the Ottawa Valley. In June 1934 she was united in marriage to Stuart King of Tatlock. A year later they moved to Almonte. Mrs King was a member of the Almonte United Church. Although she did not enjoy good health herself, her life was devoted unselfishly in ministering to those who needed her help. Beside her husband and one son, she leaves to mourn her passing, three sisters, Mrs A.A. Waddington (Millie), Montreal; Mrs John Root (Lillie), Orton; Mrs Haines Root, (Pearl), Orton and two brothers, Oliver, Pakenham and Orval, Napanee, as well as many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon with Rev J. Ray Anderson officiating. Interment was in Auld Kirk cemetery. The pallbearers were nephews, Sidney and Billie Storie, Clarence Raycroft, Cecil King, Billie McVey and Lawrence Toop. Many floral tributes and expressions of sympathy were received testifying to the esteem in which Mrs King was held.

    William John Toop
    The death of Mr William John Toop of Pembroke occurred in hospital at Pembroke on Monday, November 17, 1975, following an illness of five months. He was 56. Mr Toop was the owner and operator of Sofspra Car Wash at Pembroke. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the R.C.A.F. from 1941 to 1945. He was employed for several years in construction work with the Department of Highways, Chisholm Construction and Dibblee Construction. Mr Toop was an ardent hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Zion United Church, Pembroke. Born in Ramsay Township on September 28, 1919, he was a son of the late Charles Gordon Toop and his wife, Margaret M. Doucett. On August 29, 1944, he was united in marriage at Almonte to the former Elsie (May) Naismith, who survives, together with two daughters, Roxanna (Mrs R. Banon), Victoria, B.C., and Margo (Mrs G. Thom), Pembroke. Also surviving are six brothers, Arthur of Carleton Place; Frederick, Almonte; Harry, Arnprior; Albert, Almonte; Ewen, Ottawa, and Aylmer, R.R. 3, Carleton Place, and two sisters, Mary (Mrs L. Gimble), Brunswick, Maine, U.S.A. and Maybeth (Mrs L. Goyne), Spokane, Wash., U.S.A. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy, in 1935. The body rested at the Malcolm and Deavitt Funeral Home, Pembroke, both afternoon and evening, Tuesday, November 18, before being taken to the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte, on Wednesday, from whence the funeral was held on Thursday afternoon with burial at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev J.H. Getz of Pembroke conducted the funeral services. Pallbearers were Harvey Cochran, Clare Paul, Don Wall, Bob Burton, David Naismith and Jim Toop.

    Albert (Bert) Irwin Toop
    Life-long Almonte area native Albert (Bert) Irwin Toop died peacefully following a short illness at the Almonte General Hospital April 9, 1990. He was 67. Mr Toop was born April 30, 1922 in Almonte, the son of the late Charles Gordon Toop and his late wife Margaret M. Doucett. He receive his elementary education at the No 8 schoolhouse in Ramsay Township, and attended Carleton Place High School for secondary education. He married Elizabeth Anne James of Carleton Place Sept 4, 1951. Mr Toop spent his early years on his father's farm in the 7th line of Ramsay Township until early 1941 when he took employment at a munitions plant in Oshawa, Ont. In November of the same year he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving until August 1946. Upon leaving the RCAF he worked as an electrician and in November 1952 re-enlisted in the RCAF where he remained until his retirement in March 1972. He then took employment with Pinecraft Ltd., in Almonte and in 1974 joined the Public Service as a truck driver at the Canadian Forces Station Carp, Ont., until final retirement in May, 1987. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr Toop is survived by his wife Betty, son James Albert of Pembroke and his wife Beverley, and daughters Carol Anne and Susan Gail, both of London, Ont. He is also survived by brothers Arthur and Aylmer, both of Carleton Place, Fred of Almonte, Harry of Arnprior, Ewen of Ottawa, and sister Mary (Mrs L. Gimbel) of Brunswick, Maine. He was predeceased by his brother William, and sisters Dorothy and Maybeth (Mrs L. Goyne) The funeral took place at the Kerry Funeral Home in Almonte, April 12. Rev Jack Truman officiated. Interment at the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

    Following a brief illness, on Thanksgiving morning, October 12 Aylmer Toop passed away peacefully at home on the family farm so dear to him, with his daughter Jo-Ann by his side. He was the tenth child of Margaret Doucett Toop and C. Gordon Toop. In 1957 he brought his bride Madella home from Alberta and together they worked the farm and raised two children. Madella passed away in 2014 and Aylmer was predeceased by his parents and each of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by Madella's brother Lloyd Gimbel of Stettler, Alberta. Aylmer was extremely proud of his family which includes son Charles (Loralee) of Sherwood Park, Alberta and daughter Jo-Ann (George Gref) of Cornwall, Ontario. He was always a hard worker and instilled his work ethic in his children and his grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Alexa Toop, Michael Gref, Katharina Gref and Bretton Toop. He valued his friends and neighbours and always had a story to share. The family wishes to thank them for their friendship, support and the special parade held in honour of his 91st birthday this past July, organized by the Read family who have been like family to Aylmer over the years.
    Due to restrictions imposed by the Covid pandemic, there will be no funeral. A private interment at Auld Kirk Cemetery

She met her life mate, Jack Brown, at the Regina Rowing Club, and they were married on Jack's birthday March 16, 1939, in Vancouver, British Columbia. While Jack served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, Dorothy returned to her childhood home. After years of transferring back and forth across Canada with the Air Force, Jack and Dorothy and their two sons, Scott and Gary, moved to Tucson, Arizona in January 1966. Many years were spent square dancing, golfing, and making ceramics at Tucson Estates. They moved to Santa Catalina Villas in 1998. Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved Jack (2001), and grandson, Parker. She passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at SonLight Adult Care Home. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Delores; son, Scott (Barbara); son, Gary; six grandchildren, Matt (Amy) of Denver, Jennifer (Jeremiah) of Argentina, Justin (Erica) of North Carolina, Eric, Jessica and Daniel all of Tucson and five great-grandchildren.     Tom enjoyed a wide range of jobs over the years including a posting to Germany while he was serving in the Canadian Army. He enjoyed meeting people and made friends wherever he went, as well as volunteering with the Lanark Township Fire Department, the Snow Road Snowmobile Club, Lanark Civitan Club, the Children's Aid Society, and the Eganville Legion.

    Tom enjoyed playing classic country music throughout his lifetime, and was a frequent entertainer at the monthly jams in Lanark, Perth, Smiths Falls, McDonald's Corners, and Eganville.

    Interment of ashes will be at Guthrie United Cemetery, Clayton.
