    Albert (Bert) Irwin Toop
    Life-long Almonte area native Albert (Bert) Irwin Toop died peacefully following a short illness at the Almonte General Hospital April 9, 1990. He was 67. Mr Toop was born April 30, 1922 in Almonte, the son of the late Charles Gordon Toop and his late wife Margaret M. Doucett. He receive his elementary education at the No 8 schoolhouse in Ramsay Township, and attended Carleton Place High School for secondary education. He married Elizabeth Anne James of Carleton Place Sept 4, 1951. Mr Toop spent his early years on his father's farm in the 7th line of Ramsay Township until early 1941 when he took employment at a munitions plant in Oshawa, Ont. In November of the same year he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving until August 1946. Upon leaving the RCAF he worked as an electrician and in November 1952 re-enlisted in the RCAF where he remained until his retirement in March 1972. He then took employment with Pinecraft Ltd., in Almonte and in 1974 joined the Public Service as a truck driver at the Canadian Forces Station Carp, Ont., until final retirement in May, 1987. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr Toop is survived by his wife Betty, son James Albert of Pembroke and his wife Beverley, and daughters Carol Anne and Susan Gail, both of London, Ont. He is also survived by brothers Arthur and Aylmer, both of Carleton Place, Fred of Almonte, Harry of Arnprior, Ewen of Ottawa, and sister Mary (Mrs L. Gimbel) of Brunswick, Maine. He was predeceased by his brother William, and sisters Dorothy and Maybeth (Mrs L. Goyne) The funeral took place at the Kerry Funeral Home in Almonte, April 12. Rev Jack Truman officiated. Interment at the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

    Albert married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" James in 1951. Elizabeth (daughter of John Frizelle James and Eleanor Dorothy Rothwell) was born on 5 Sep 1929 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 12 Jul 2005 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
