At the Almonte General Hospital on Saturday, December 11, 1971, the death of Mr William James Leach came very suddenly after a lengthy illness. Suffering from Polio in 1953 he had been crippled ever since. In 1965 and 1966 the amputation of both legs, caused by the hardening of the arteries confined him to the wheelchair. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jean Robertson of R.R. 2 Almonte, and daughters Lila and Stella. Also surviving are Mrs William Neil (Evelyn), Carleton Place, and a sister, Mrs James H. Saunders, (Eva) of Ottawa and a brother Daniel of Nairn Centre. Predeceased are brothers William Louis, and Ross, also a sister Lila Maude (Mrs Frank McNeely). He was born at R.R. 2 Almonte where he resided his entire lifetime. Mr Leach was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 240, Almonte, and served overseas in World War I. A service by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 240, was conducted December 13 at 8 p.m. The funeral was held on Tuesday, Dec. 14th, from the Comba Funeral Home, Almonte, thence to St Paul's Cemetery, Almonte. Arch-deacon J.A. Salter officiated at the service. The many flowers and memoriams showed the esteem in which he was held and his cheerful voice will never be forgotten.
