    Harry D. Gilmour
    A number of Almonte attended the funeral in Carleton Place, Wednesday afternoon of the late Harry D. Gilmour, who died at the age of 73 years. He was a native of Almonte and well-known here and in this district as a building contractor.

    A prominent building contractor in the Ottawa Valley, Harry Dawson Gilmour passed away in the Civic Hospital, May 4th in his 73rd year. Born in Appleton, the oldest son of the late A.C. Gilmour, contractor, and his wife, Susan Coultas. He lived in Almonte where he was educated and went into partnership with his father. He was married in Vancouver in 1909 to the former Rose Isabel Gammons of Hasting, Minn., niece of Mrs L.W. Shipman. They returned to live in Almonte where Mr Gilmour enlisted in the 130th Battalion and served overseas for three years in the First World War, being wounded and gassed at Vimy Ridge. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Mrs Gordon Erratt, (Hazel) of Vancouver; Mrs Charles Godfrey (Rosamond), Carleton Place; Mrs N.S. Mahara (Kathleen) and Mrs J.F. Coulter (Marjorie), both of Ottawa. Two sons, Sgt Victor Gilmour, R.C.A.F., St. Sylvester, Que, and Dawson Gilmour, Peterborough. Also eight grandchildren. The one remaining member of his family is a sister, Mrs Stanley Turnbull (Eunice) of New York. He was a member of Memorial Park United Church, Carleton Place. The funeral service was conducted by Rev H.N. Giffin, from the Allan R. Barker Funeral Home, Carleton Place. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. The Carleton Place Branch of the Canadian Legion formed a guard of honour at the Funeral Home and conducted a service at the graveside.

    Flt Lt R. Gilmour Died Suddenly Thursday In Winnipeg
    WINNIPEG, August 24 ? Flight Lieutenant Ronald A. Gilmour, 44, died Thursday in Deer Lodge Hospital. Born in Vancouver, he attended school at Almonte, Ont, and enlisted in the RCAF at Ottawa, in 1929 as an apprentice airman. In 1936 he received his wings as an NCO pilot and in 1939 he received his commission. During the Second World War he served at many air force stations in Canada and overseas. He was a Staff Officer Air Training at RCAF's 14 Training Group Headquarters in Winnipeg from February, 1952 until his death. F/L Gilmour is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs H.D. Gilmour, Carleton Place; his wife Adelaide, and four children, Barten, 17, Wendy 15, Terrence, 13, and Christopher, 9 of 431 Moorgate, Winnipeg; two brothers, Victor, with the RCAF at St Sylvestre, Que, and Dawson of Peterborough; and four sisters, Mrs Gordon Erratt, Vancouver, Mrs Charles Godfrey, Carleton Place, and Mrs N. Mahara, and Mrs John Coulter, of Ottawa. A Military service was conducted at the Protestant Chapel at RCAF Station Winnipeg, at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The body arrived in Carleton Place on Monday and the funeral took place from the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, McArthur avenue, to Memorial Park United Church. Service was conducted jointly by Rev H. Giffin and Flt Lt the Rev H.F. Currie. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. The Carleton Place Legion conducted service at the graveside. Honourary pallbearers from the RCAF Station Uplands were Flt Lts W.C. Craile, O.M. Alier, A.W. Nelson, S.L. Poulin, W.B. Adair and J.W. Stants. Honour guard, under Lew Harthen, Legion President, consisted of Doug Lancaster, Ernie Halliday, G.W. Comba, Willys Armour, Frank Muff, Roy McKittrick, Jock Mailey, Ron Wing, Herb Cornell, all of Carleton Place and George Comba of Almonte. Active pallbearers were: Harry Johnston of Ottawa, Clifford Milford, Arnold Julian, Harold Dowdall, James Patterson and Ernie Foote.

Godfrey and his wife Judy of Scarborough, Ontario. Dear sister of Kathleen (Mrs Nick Mahara) of Ottawa; Marjorie (Mrs John Coulter) of Brampton; Victor Gilmour (Thelma) of Carleton Place and Dawson Gilmour (Dorothy) of Peterborough. Predeceased by her brother Ronald Gilmour and her sister Hazel Erratt. A Service In Memory of Rose will be held in St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carleton Place, on Sunday, December 1, at 1 p.m., Reverend Robert Hill officiating.     Unexpectedly at the Carleton Place Hospital, on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the age of 94. Predeceased by his wife Thelma. Loving father of Glenn and Garry (Susan Miller). The family wish to thank Dr Walker for his care over the past years. A Masonic Service will take place at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 10:3 a.m. with Visitation following from 11:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service in the chapel at 2:00 p.m.

    Victor married Thelma Annette Boates in 1946.
