    Notes:

    Died:
Polio Takes Life of Mrs. Russell Ormseth
Polio struck swiftly and stealthily to end the life of a young mother of three small children as she was being rushed in an ambulance to University hospital in Minneapolis for treatment late Sunday afternoon. Mrs . Russell Ormseth, 25, lapsed into unconsciousness near Glencoe and died a few moments later at 4:45 p.m. Mrs. Ormseth had a sore throat and had not been feeling well early last week but when she apparently recovered she and her husband decided to spend the remainder of his vacation in northern Minnesota. They were visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rasmussen, former Canbyans, in Taconite, when the illness returned and early Sunday morning a doctor was called. He diagnosed it as a mild case of polio. At 2 a.m., they started back to Canby and when they arrived consulted a Canby doctor who advised going immediately to University hospital. As they neared Glencoe, Mr. Ormseth suggested that his wife try to sleep and she said she did feel tired and in a few minutes was asleep. She had been asleep a few minutes when Mr. Ormseth noticed that a pulsation in her throat had ceased and he called to Victor Larson, driver of the ambulance, to stop. They tried artificial respiration but she did not respond. Mr. Larson drove the ambulance into the Glencoe business section where a doctor said she was dead. Her death was from the only known case of infantile paralysis in the Canby community.
Funeral services took place at Our Saviour's Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. O. H. Hove officiating, and burial was made in the Canby cemetery. During the service Henry Peterson sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Mrs. Donald Peterson accompanying on the organ. Pallbearers were Ovie Carlson, Oscar Bengtson, Nils Lundvall, James Wiest, Alton Olson and Lester Bockes.
Dorothy Shippy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Shippy, was born August 9, 1927, in Canby and she lived her entire life in the Canby community, attending rural school in Lincoln county and graduating from Canby high school in 1946. After graduating she was employed in Woodward's and Lyslo's Grocery. She was married to Russell Ormseth in St. Stephen's church May 11, 1947. Three children were born and survive with their father. They are James Curtis, 4; Richard Lee, 2; and Carol Jean 10? months. Also surviving are her parents; a sister, Arlys Shippy, and two brothers, Wilbur and Wayne Shippy. Mrs. Ormseth was a member of the Circle of Our Saviour's Lutheran church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Dorothy married Russell Bernard Ormseth in 1947. Russell was born on 17 Apr 1917 in Beaver Creek, Rock County, Minnesota, United States; died on 6 Mar 1999 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States; was buried on 8 Mar 1999 in Canby City Cemetery, Canby, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, United States.
