With sincere regret we have this week to announce the death of another of those who settled in Ramsay in the twenties, in the person of Mr Peter Drummond, the wellknown farmer. Less than four weeks ago Mr Drummond suffered from an attack of grippe, but with his strong constitution it was thought he would soon recover. However, the trouble soon developed into inflammation of the lungs, and notwithstanding that all that medical science and loving attention could do for him was done, he grew gradually worse till this (Thursday) morning, when the thread of life was broken and the sturdy yeoman passed to the great futurity that awaits mankind. Deceased possessed a genial nature and a warm heart beneath a blunt exterior, and news of his death will be received with sorrow by a large circle of friends. He took a deep interest in municipal affairs, and sat as councillor for a time. He was an ardent Liberal in politics. The late Mr Drummond came to Canada with his parents from Perthshire, Scotland, in 1826, and shortly afterwards settled in Ramsay, on the farm adjoining the present homestead. He lived on those farms the balance of his life ? over forty years. Mrs Drummond and six children survive. The children are: William, of Metropolitan, Mich.; Samuel, of this town; Peter (the Doctor), of Grant, Mich.; and Daniel, Mary and Agnes, at home. These will have general sympathy in their bereavement.

Another old Ramsay pioneer has crossed the bourne from which there is no returning, his demise taking place on Monday morning at his home at Carleton Place. Mr Drummond was born in Perthshire, Scotland, and when he was in his infancy his parents joined the throng of emigrants who were at that time making their way Canadawards. The family settled in Ramsay township, and there the deceased spent 76 years of his life ? on his father's farm and the one adjoining ? until his retirement but four years ago, since which time he has been a resident of Carleton Place. In 1860 Mr Drummond married Miss Marion McCallum, and the union was blessed with a family of twelve children, seven sons and five daughters, all of whom survive but two; The sons are William J. and Geo T., in Bristol, Dr. S.J. in Casonovia, Mich., Rev D.R. pastor of St. Paul's church, Hamilton, and D.J., on the homestead. The daughters are Mrs Jos Chapman, Bristol, Mrs Robert Dunlop, Carleton Place; Marion C., in Toronto; Mrs L. Stewart, Pakenham, and Mary I. at home. The deceased are Malcolm, who died in childhood, and Alexander P. who was killed in a railway accident at Arnprior four years ago. In politics Mr Drummond was a Liberal, firm in his convictions, yet accorded a like privilege to others. In religion he was a Presbyterian, and for many years was an elder of St Andrew's church here. For over twenty years he was a trustee in his school section, and took a deep interest in educational affairs. He was very fond of reading and his memory was a veritable storehouse of useful information. During the last days the members of the family assembled as far a possible, those present at the last being William from Bristol, Rev D.R. from Hamilton, Marion from Toronto, Mrs Stewart, Mrs Dunlop and Mary. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon to the 8th line Ramsay cemetery and was very largely attended. The bereaved wife and other members of the family have the deep sympathy of their many friends in their hour of sadness.

He was in his 79th year and had been ill for the past year. The funeral was held this (Thursday) afternoon, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. There passed away at the homestead 12th concession of Ramsay on Wednesday morning, Dec 23rd, a well-known resident of Ramsay Twp., in the person of Mr. Samuel Drummond. Deceased was the fourth child in a family on nine and was born on Nov 24, 1858, son of the late Peter Drummond and Jane Dunlop of Lanarkshire, Scotland. Mr. Drummond was twice married. In 1888 he married Mary Burns of Ramsay who died in 1897. To this union, seven children were born, Harvey L. of Ottawa, Eva J. (Mrs. Melville Paul) of Ramsay, and Iva N. (Mrs. Clifford Greene) of Fitzroy; Violet, Albert and Alberta died in infancy and Wilbur L. died in 1928.
In 1900 Mr. Drummond married Mary Paterson, second daughter of the late Buchanan Paterson and his wife, Isabella Stewart, who survives. To this marriage were born five children, Howard A., Ralph, Agnes and Aida at home. Elsie I. died in 1919. Also surviving are one brother and sister, Dr. Peter Drummond of Grant, Michigan, and Mrs. T. J. Reid, of Almonte.
The late Mr. Drummond's boyhood and early manhood days were spent on the farm. For a period of upwards of 15 years he operated a livery business in Almonte, and returned to his farm in 1894, where he had since resided. He had not enjoyed good health for a year prior to his death.
His passing severs another link with the older residents of the community and he will be missed sadly by a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral, which was private, was held on Thursday afternoon from the home and interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. C. D. McLellan, pastor of Bethany United Church, of which deceased was a member, officiated. The pallbearers were: David J. Drummond, John Chapman, Duncan Stewart, Harvey S. Paterson of Ramsay, Lawson Stewart, Arnprior, and Geo. C. Drummond of Bristol, Que.

Samuel's livery business (keeping horses and rigs/carriages for hire) was called "The Popular Livery", with ads that promised "FIRST CLASS HORSES, COMFORTABLE RIGS AND GOOD EQUIPMENT. Every attention paid to the wants of our patrons. We have several quiet and reliable horses, suitable for ladies' or children's driving."

Mrs Thos. J. Reid died suddenly at her home, Union Street, Saturday morning. She had been in ill health for over a year but her death came as a shock to her friends because she had been feeling better during the last few weeks. She was in her 77th year. The funeral, which was private, took place on Monday afternoon, the Rev H.C. Wolfraim of Bethany United Church, officiating. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pall-bearers were Messrs P.A. Grieg, W.A. Jamieson, Austin Symington, P.A.E. Young, J.L. Erskine and W.M. Bowland. Mrs Reid was the former Agnes Jane Drummond. She was born in Ramsay Township six miles from Almonte, the daughter of the late Peter Drummond and his wife, Jane Dunlop. She spent her youth in Ramsay where she received her early education in the rural school. Mrs Reid attended Bethany United Church and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and a life member of the Women's Auxiliary. She married in Almonte in 1903 to Thomas J. Reid, who survives. In addition to her husband she is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to many floral offerings from friends there were wreaths from the Almonte Branch of the Canadian Legion and The Women's Auxiliary of the organization.

The funeral of Mrs Jessie Jane Dunlop, widow of Robert Dunlop, a resident of Carleton Place for seventy years, was held on Thursday, September 4th, from Patterson Funeral Home, Lake avenue west. Eldest daughter of the late Daniel Drummond and his wife Marion McCullum, she was married to Robert Dunlop in June, 1888, and came here as a bride and has resided in her home, Hawthore avenue, since that time. She is survived by a son, Norman of Montreal, a daughter, Marion of Carleton Place, an granddaughter, Mrs John McLeish of Niagara Falls, Ont, and a great granddaughter, Sheila Marion McLeish; two sisters, Miss Marion C. Drummond of Ottawa and Agnes, Mrs Lawson Stewart of Arnprior, Seven brothers and two sisters predeceased her. In her 96th year, she suffered a stroke in the summer of 1945 and was confined to bed the last four years as a result of a fractured hip. She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church and was always keenly interested in all its activities. She read widely 'till the last few days of her life and was bright and cheerful and always intensely interested in people and events. The service was conducted by the Rev James M. Ritchie of Almonte and interment was in the Auld Kirk cemetery, Almonte. The pallbearers were all nephews: Dr M.M. (Mac) Drummond, Ottawa; George Drummond, Bristol, Quebec; Stewart Drummond, Ramsay; John Stewart, Arnprior; Peter Dunlop, Carleton Place and Gilmour Dunlop, Ottawa.

Mr D.J. Drummond received word on Sunday afternoon, April 28 that his brother Dr S.J. Drummond had passed away at his home, Grand Rapids, Mich., in his 74th year. He was the third son of the late Mr and Mrs Daniel Drummond of the 12th line of Ramsay and was educated at S.S 12 and the high school, Almonte. He was another of Dr P.C. McGregor's pupils who became a distinguished doctor. Following his graduation in medicine at Queen's University, He specialized in New York City in eye, ear, nose and throat and established a practice in Grand Rapids. He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Kathleen. Mrs Fleming of Detroit; also three brothers, David of Ramsay and George of Bristol, Que., Neilson E., B.Sc. A of Shawville, Que., and five sisters, Mrs Robt Dunlop. Carleton Place; Mrs C.M. Chapman of Ramsay; Mrs Alec Stewart and Mrs Lawson Stewart, both of Arnprior and Miss Marion Drummond of Ottawa. Those attending the funeral on Tuesday were Messrs Stewart and Neil Drummond, John Stewart, Mrs John Chapman, Mrs Alec Stewart and Miss Marion Dunlop.

Funeral Services to Be Held Tuesday at 2:30 P.M. from Village Auditorium

Casnovia, April 29-Special-Dr. Samuel J. Drummond, prominent Casnovia Physician for the past 42 years, died at his home Sunday after an illness lasting since November, Dr. Drummond was a member of the Muskegon County Medical Association.

Born in Almonte, Ontario, September 7, 1866, Dr. Drummond was 73 years old. He graduated from the medical department of Queens College, Kingston, Ont., in 1897. He came to Newaygo county following his graduation where he practiced with his cousin Dr. Peter Drummond. A year later he purchased the practice of Dr. C.E. Koon in Casnovia in 1898 and has been the only physician in the village since that time.

Dr. Drummond was prominent in medical circles of both Grand Rapids and Muskegon. He was a member of the Casnovia lodge F. and A.M. No. 461, of the Independent Order of Foresters of Toronto, Canada, and was a member of the Presbytaerian church in Almonte, Ontario.

Dr. Drummond was married to Miss Marie Cunningham of Chicago, Feb. 29, 1900. Surviving are his widow, two brothers, George of Bristol, Que., David of Carleton Place, Ont.; four sisters, Mrs. Robert Dunlap and Mrs. Tina Chapman of Carleton Place, Mrs. Lawson Stewart and Mrs. Alex Stewart of Armprior, Ont.

Very largely attended by friends and relatives, the funeral of David J. Drummond, who died on Tuesday morning, Dec 7, 1948, after a very lengthy illness, was held from his late residence, 9th concession of Ramsay, with Rev James Foote, pastor of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carleton Place, conducting the service. Interment was made in the family plot, Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. Mr Drummond was of Scotch descent. His father, Daniel Drummond, came from Perthshire, Scotland, and his mother, Marion McCallum, came from Glasgow, Scotland. He was born on March 1st, 1870, on the 12th concession of Ramsay, and spent most of his life farming. He lived in Carleton Place from 1918 - 1922, then moved to the 9th line of Ramsay. He was a member of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church and at one time a member of the board of managers. On Dec 30th, 1903, he married Jessie Bayne Stewart, who survives with one son, Stewart, and his wife, Doreen, and four grandsons. David, Gilmour, William and John. Four sisters also survive: Jessie, Mrs Robert Dunlop, Carleton Place; Miss Marion C. Drummond, Ottawa; Agnes, Mrs Lawson Stewart, Fitzroy; Mary, Mrs Alex Stewart, McNab; six brothers; William J., Alexander P., Dr Samuel J., Rev Daniel R., George T., and Malcolm G., and one sister (Tena), Mrs J. Chapman, are deceased. Pall-bearers were John M. Chapman, D.H. Lowry, W.H. Hawkins, W.J. Anderson, W.D. Stewart and Robert P. Reid. Among the beautiful floral tributes received were wreaths from the W.M.S. of St Andrew's Church, Buckham and Stewart Construction Co., and Circle No 4, St Andrew's Church Friends were present from Guelph, Shawville, Bristol, Ottawa, Arnprior, Cedar Hill, Almonte, Carleton Place and Ashton.

David married Jessie Bayne Stewart on 30 Dec 1903 in McNab Township, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada. There passed away at her home on the 9th line of Ramsay, on Friday morning, Dec 18th, a well known and highly respected resident of the township, Mrs Joseph Chapman. Born in Ramsay Township in 1871, deceased was the daughter of the late Daniel Drummond and his wife Margaret McCallum, pioneer settles of Ramsay. She was married to Mr. Joseph Chapman on May 23, 1895. He died in 1919. There remain to mourn her loss one son and three daughters: Jno M. Chapman on the homestead, 9th line Ramsay, and Miss Marion, Lillian and Helen of Ottawa. Two children Sandy and Isobel died in early childhood, Of her own immediate family Mrs Chapman is survived by two brothers and four sisters: David Drummond of Ramsay; George of Bristol, Que.; (Jessie) Mrs Robert Dunlop and Marion Drummond of Carleton Place; (Mary) Mrs Alex Stewart and (Agnes) Mrs Lawson Stewart of Arnprior. The many expressions of sympathy and beautiful flower bespoke the respect and esteem in which Mrs Chapman was held during her life. Among the many floral pieces were a beautiful basket from her neighbours; a wreath from the Carleton Place W.F.O. and W.F.W.O. clubs of which Mrs Chapman was an active and ever-interested member; a spray from the Treasury Office of the Dept of Labour and from the Purchasing Branch of the Dept. of Munitions and Supplies, Ottawa; choir of the First United Church, Ottawa. Executive of the Presbyterial of the W.M.S. Ottawa, and a basket from the staff and pupils of Percy Street School, Ottawa. The funeral was held on Sunday from the family home, 9th line of Ramsay. The service was conducted by the Rev. D.C. Munroe of Memorial Park Church, Carleton Place. The pallbearers were Messrs. John Cram, Robert Reid, Wm. Anderson, W.H. Hawkins, H.G. Lowry and Percy Drynan. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Christina married Joseph Chapman on 23 May 1895. The angel of death came with almost startling suddenness to Miss Elsie Drummond early on Tueday morning. During the flu epidemiclast fall she contracted the disease and never fully recovered. Acouple of weeks ago she suffered a relapse and was thought to be making good recovery when she was taken suddenly worse and passed away before medical aid could be obtained. The late Miss Drummond was a daughter of Mr and Mrs S Drummond of Ramsay, and was in her eighteenth year. Besides the sorrowing parents, seven brothers and sisters are left to mourn her early demise. these are Mrs C Greene, Kinburn; Misses Eva, Ada, Agnes and Masters Howard and Ralph at home; Harvey, of Smiths Falls; Wilbert, of Almonte. The funeral on Thursday was to the Presbyterian cemetery at the eighth line and was very largely attended by those wishing to show their sympathy for the bereaved ones. Rev S.G. Brown conducted the services at the home and the grave.

Howard Drummond

The funeral of the late Howard Drummond was held on Saturday, March 28th, at 3:30 p.m. , from the Comba Funeral Home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Rev H.C. Wolfraim of Almonte United Church, of which deceased was a member, conducted the service.

Mr Drummond died suddenly on his farm on the 12th line of Ramsay Township, on Wednesday, March 25th, while engaged in cutting brush at the edge of a field. Evcept for an arthritic condition which had troubled him for the past five years, he was not known to be in ill health and his sudden passing came as a great shock to his family and friends.

A son of the late Sam Drummond and his wife, Mary Paterson, he was born in 1903 on the farm where he spent his life.

He leaves two brothers two brothers and two sisters: Ralph of Corkery, Agnes at home, Harvey L of Ottawa, Iva, Mrs Clifford Green of Arnprior, and Ada at home. A brother, Wilbur L, and two sisters, Eva, Mrs Melville Paul and Elsie predeceased him.

The pallbearers were: Jack Command, Leonard Kennedy, Angus Kennedy, Jos Madden, Stewart Paterson and Victor Kellough.

Among the beautiful floral tributes were sprays from the 12th line neighbours, S.S. No 12 Ramsay, and the Appleton W.I.

The passed to rest at the Rosamond Memorial Hospital on March 13, Eva Jane Drummond, wife of Melville Paul. She was 50 years of age. A life-long resident of Lanark county, Mrs Paul was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Samuel Drummond.

Mrs Paul is survived by her husband, two daughters (Dorothy) Mrs Allen Duncan and (Doris), Mrs Harvey Cochrane and two sons William and Clare, one grandaughter Paula Duncan, one sister (Iva) Mrs Clifford Greene of Kinburn and one brother, Harvey L. Drummond of Ottawa. Another brother Wilber L. Drummond predeceased her 19 years ago. She is also survived by two half sisters, Aida and Agnes Drummond and two half brothers, Howard and Ralph Drummond all of Ramsay.

The funeral was held Friday, March 14, from her late residence on Martin Street to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev W.J. Scott of Bethany United church of Almonte assisted by Rev Wm Aird.

The pallbearers were: Messrs John Chapman, Albert Naismith, Edward Rose, Wilbert Cochrane, Alton Matthews and Victor Kellough.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr M.C. McPhail, principal of Kemptville Agricultural School, Mr Parish, Mr Parks. Members of the teaching staff and a number of the students of Kemptville Agricultural School.

Among the beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from the Almonte Public Utilities Commission, Almonte Branch Canadian Legion, Almonte Boys' Athletic Society, Fifth Form Almonte High School, Ramsay W.I. Circle No 4 of Bethany Church and Almonte Junior Farmers.

Resting at the Tubman-Kennedy Funeral Home, Carp, where friends may call from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Saturday. ?b?Last Tribute Is Paid To John M. Chapman?/b?
Following a long period of failing health, John Malcolm Chapman passed away on Friday evening, July 11th, at his home, 9th line of Ramsay. Son of the late Joseph Chapman and his wife, Christine Margaret Drummond, he was born January 17, 1898, at Bristol, Que. In 1908, his family returned to Ramsay settling on the 7th line. Ten years later the home was established on the 9th line where Mr Chapman has since resided. The late Mr Chapman is survived by his widow, Dora Briggs Cannon, second daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Allan Cannon, to whom he was united in marriage January 10, 1939, and by his sisters, Marion Lillian and Helen (Mrs A.G. Ker) all of Ottawa. The funeral was held from the family home on Monday afternoon, July 14, at 2 p.m., Rev D.C. Munro of Memorial Park United Church, Carleton Place, conducting the service. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. The pallbearers were J.W. Cram, H.S. Young, Robt P. Reid, W.J. Anderson, H.W. Hawkins and D. Hollie Lowry. The funeral was largely attended and there were many beautiful floral offerings. Relatives from Wisconsin, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Aylmer West, Antwerp, N.Y., and Bristol, Que., were present at the funeral.
