There passed away at her home on the 9th line of Ramsay, on Friday morning, Dec 18th, a well known and highly respected resident of the township, Mrs Joseph Chapman. Born in Ramsay Township in 1871, deceased was the daughter of the late Daniel Drummond and his wife Margaret McCallum, pioneer settles of Ramsay. She was married to Mr. Joseph Chapman on May 23, 1895. He died in 1919. There remain to mourn her loss one son and three daughters: Jno M. Chapman on the homestead, 9th line Ramsay, and Miss Marion, Lillian and Helen of Ottawa. Two children Sandy and Isobel died in early childhood, Of her own immediate family Mrs Chapman is survived by two brothers and four sisters: David Drummond of Ramsay; George of Bristol, Que.; (Jessie) Mrs Robert Dunlop and Marion Drummond of Carleton Place; (Mary) Mrs Alex Stewart and (Agnes) Mrs Lawson Stewart of Arnprior. The many expressions of sympathy and beautiful flower bespoke the respect and esteem in which Mrs Chapman was held during her life. Among the many floral pieces were a beautiful basket from her neighbours; a wreath from the Carleton Place W.F.O. and W.F.W.O. clubs of which Mrs Chapman was an active and ever-interested member; a spray from the Treasury Office of the Dept of Labour and from the Purchasing Branch of the Dept. of Munitions and Supplies, Ottawa; choir of the First United Church, Ottawa. Executive of the Presbyterial of the W.M.S. Ottawa, and a basket from the staff and pupils of Percy Street School, Ottawa. The funeral was held on Sunday from the family home, 9th line of Ramsay. The service was conducted by the Rev. D.C. Munroe of Memorial Park Church, Carleton Place. The pallbearers were Messrs. John Cram, Robert Reid, Wm. Anderson, W.H. Hawkins, H.G. Lowry and Percy Drynan. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.
