"This week we have to chronicle the death of the youngest and last surviving member of that sturdy race of pioneers - the Crams. Daniel Cram was born in Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland on April 25, 1813 and died August 6, 1896, being at the time of his death 83 years of age. He was the youngest of nine children, six boys and three girls, born to Peter Cram and Janet Kay, his wife.

"John, the eldest, came over to this country in 1818 and after casting about for a place to locate, finally settled on the 11th concession of Beckwith, being one of the first settlers. The father was so well pleased with the liberal concessions made to the early settlers by the colonial government that he decided to follow John over. Accordingly, two years after, with his entire family, except for Catherine, who died at home, he set sail on the good ship ?i?Ben Lomond ?/i?and after a stormy voyage of nine weeks by land and water, landed at the eldest son's primitive log shanty. The family settled on the place afterwards owned by David and at present occupied by Samuel Cram. A number of the sons took up separate grants and settled right around the old homestead, but Daniel, being too young to avail himself of this privilege until all the land was gone, his father bought him 150 acres from Captain Glendinning on Glen Isle.

"In December 1837 Daniel was married by Rev. William Bell of Perth to Christina McDiarmid. Three children blessed this union: Samuel G, deceased; Elizabeth, now Mrs Peter Sinclair of Scotch Corners; and Henry W, deceased. His first wife died in March of 1844 and on the 30th of October 1845, at Brockville, he was married to Elizabeth Harkness, who survives him. Ten children resulted: Margaret, deceased, who married Thomas Allan of Perth; William C of Raleigh, NC; Jessie, wife of Samuel Waugh of Waterville, NY; Daniel, on the homestead; Robert H at Ottawa; Peter at New York; Josiah, deceased; George D, deceased; Florence A, wife of Frank Nielson of this place; Katie, at home."

Thursday, Oct., 7th, 1948 publication date Miss L. E. Cram Dies Suddenly at Ottawa

The sad news of the passing of Laura Elizabeth Cram, eldest daughter of the late Daniel and Mrs. Cram of Glen Isle , came as a great shock to her relatives and many friends here. On completing her education at Taber?s Business College and later graduating from Scranton Art School, of Chicago, she was employed in the Civil Service in Ottawa. From there she went to Cleveland where she continued her studies in the Jno. Huntington School of Art, while she did stenographic work. At the time of her passing she was employed by the War Assets Dept., Ottawa, where last Thursday she suffered a severe heart attack and passed away in the Civic Hospital in the late afternoon. Miss Cram was of an aesthetic nature and had a keen appreciation for all that was beautiful in life, material things were entirely secondary to her. She loved people in all walks of life. Her lilting laughter and bright cheerfulness will be sadly missed by all her loved ones. The funeral from the home of her brother John Watt, Glen Isle, was conducted by Rev. Anthony, of Carleton Place, Baptist church, of which she was a member. She leaves to mourn her loss 3 sisters, Jessie ( Mrs. W. M. Wilkinson, Oakville; Mrs. Ben Gube, Cleveland, Ohio; Florence, Mrs. Harwood McCreary of Carleton Place; and four brothers, R. Glen, of Three Hills, Alta., Wm. H. of Brockville; John W. and D. Boyd, at home. The pallbearers were : Norman McDougall, Wellington; Hawkins, Peter Moffat, Haldane Cram, and two brothers-in-law, Harwood McCreary and Dr. W. M. Wilkinson, of Oakville, Ont.

Patricia "Patsy " Euphemia McCreary (1936?1947)

Patsy Euphemia McCreary, youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Harwood McCreary, passed away at the Toronto General hospital Saturday morning, November 15th, where she had gone for quite a serious operation. The operation was quite successful but wee Patsy slipped away twenty-four hours later instantaneously. Patsy was in her 11th year. Her sweet and winsome ways endeared her to a host of friends. Her patient, sunshiny courage, though her life was a delicate one, is an inspiration to her bereaved family.
Services were conducted by Rev. M. Robert Boston at the family residence, H. McCreary's, to United Cemetery at Boyd's Settlement. She leaves to mourn her loss: mother, dad, brother Dan, sister Constance, grandfather , Mr. Hiram McCreary. "I am the resurrection and the Life. He that believeth on me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and he that liveth and believeth in Me shall never die".
