The Late Mrs James Allen
A very sad and sudden death occurred on Tuesday in the passing of Mrs Allen, Santiago street, Although she had not been in the best of health for several months her condition was not considered particularly serious. In fact only last week she was away on a visit to friends returning owing to an intimation she received that her son Sergt N.C. Allen, was coming home on Saturday for a couple of days' leave from his duties at Camp Borden. She met her son at the station that day and was her ususal bright self. On Sunday afternoon a severe collapse manifested itself and her condition gradually became worse until about noon on Tuesday when the doors of death were opened and the spirit took its flight. Deceased was born Anna Margaret Kellough, a daughter of the late James Kellough of Lanark township, on May 5, 1861. She was married to James Allen, taking up her residence on a farm in Ramsay township where they resided until about sixteen years ago when they moved to Carleton Place with their family. Besides her husband deceased leaves one daughter, Olive, at home, and two sons, Newton Clifford, B.F. and P.T. instructor, Camp Borden, Ont, and Wm Osmond, at Cobalt, Ont. She also leaves four brothers; Thomas G., at Halpenny; James, at Blakeney; Robert G., at Appleton and William J., at Carleton Place. There were two sisters; Agnes R., (the late Mrs D. McNabb,) who died at Carleton Place in May, 1902, and Mary C., who passed away October, 1885. The funeral took place to the 8th line cemetery

Robert George Kellough
Almonte lost one of its elderly citizens Friday, Feb 29th, in the person of Robert George Kellough. He was in his 87th year and had lived in Almonte since his retirement from the farm 25 years ago. Although he suffered a slight stroke some time ago Mr Kellough was in good health up to a few days before his death when a heavier and more serious visitation of the same malady brought his long life to a close. Deceased was born in Ramsay Township on July 10th, 1865, a son of the late James Kellough and his wife, Jane Gemmill. He married Margaret Brown Young of Arnprior who predeceased him in 1945. For some years Mr Kellough farmed on the first line of Ramsay, adjacent to the old homestead and in 1909 he removed to the farm on the twelfth line where he continued to live until his retirement. Mr Kellough was an industrious man and got along well with all his neighbours and friends. He never took part in municipal politics or public affairs but for all that he was a sociable person who was pleasant to meet and highly respected. He leaves three sons and one daughter, namely, J. Victor of Ramsay; John Y. of Cobourg; Earle G. of Dunnville and Miss Margaret H., supervisor of the hospital at Port Hope. There are also ten grandchildren and one great grandson. Mr Kellough was a member of Bethany United Church. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon to the Auld Kirk Cemetery from the Comba Funeral Home. Services were conducted by Rev H. C. Wolfraim. Pallbearers were: Oswald Allen, Kenneth Robertson, Harvey Young, William McArton, J.B. Neilson and Allie Stewart. Among many floral offerings were pieces from the Port Hope Hospital Board, the staff of the hospital and special nurses, W.N. Moore, Mayor of the town; the staff of Dunnville High School and the Ralston Purina Co.

Bessie May McNabb Cavers, Nel-Gor Castle Nursing Home, Carleton Place, died April 18, at the age of 87 Mrs Cavers was born May 23, 1892. in Ramsay township, the daughter of the late David McNabb and Agnes Kellough On June 30. 1915, she married the late Thomas Edgar Cavers, a farmer, in Appleton Mrs Cavers was a member of Zion Memorial United Church, a charter member of the Appleton Women's Institute, and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 240 She was the mother of the late Frank and Harold Cavers, and the sister of the late David, George, and Welland McNabb. Mrs Cavers is survived by her daughter Agnes Tudor, of Toronto, and her son Melville Cavers, of Almonte A public funeral was held April 21 from the Alan Barker Funeral Home The service was conducted by Reverend Mitchell. James Victor Kellough
On July 6, 1989, J. Victor Kellough died in Almonte General Hospital following a three and one-half year hospitalization. He was 90 years old. Born March 30, 1899, on the first concession of Ramsay, he moved with his family in 1909 to Spruce Hill Farm on the Twelfth Concession of Ramsay, where he resided until his retirement in 1983. He was the son to the late Robert G. Kellough and his late wife Margaret Young. Mr Kellough was a graduate of the class of 1924 of Kemptville Agricultural School, which was the second graduating class of that school. He has a keen interest in agriculture and Holstein cattle, and had one of the first 200,000 pound producing cows in Eastern Ontario. He was active in farm organizations in earlier years, and held offices in Farm Forum, United Co-op and various other farm organizations. In later years he was keenly interested in the North Lanark Historical Society. Mr Kellough took an active part in his local church and was a life member of the session of the Almonte United Church. Mr Kellough was married in June 1926 to Gladys Cynthia Paul in St James Anglican Church, Carleton Place and together they farmed at Spruce Hill until her death in February 1982. He is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Douglas (Jean) King, Cambridge; Mrs. Jack (Florence) Virgin, Almonte; Mrs. Harold (Cynthia) Stuart, Simcoe; and Mrs. Ronald (Carol) James, Perth. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Margaret Kellough of Toronto. Besides his late wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, John Y. Kellough and Earle G. Kellough, and one sister, Jean. Visitation was held at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home in Almonte July 7, followed by the funeral in the Gamble Funeral Home Chapel July 8. The service was conducted by Rev. Clifford Evans, assisted by Rev. Edward Colwell and Rev. Douglas Kellough, a nephew of the deceased. Six grandchildren acted as pallbearers: Brett James, Colin and Cynthia King, Terry Stuart, Paul and David Virgin. Interment was in the family plot at the Auld Kirk Cemetery on the Eighth Line of Ramsay.

Warrant Officer Class II Cavers was one of six airmen killed in the crash and resulting explosion of Hudson (#BW 620) aircraft at the aerodrome in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; the Hudson, with four airmen aboard, had just taken off on an operational patrol. Besides the four crew members, two of the five ground crew members who attempted to assist, also perished in this accident.
The four aircrew members were:-
Sergeant Alexander John BAILLIE,
Warrant Officer Class II Robert Franklin CAVERS,
Warrant Officer Class II Mervin Elwood TARRANT and
Flying Officer Charles Leroy TRIPP.
The two ground aircrew members were:-

Melville (Mel) Charles Cavers
A retired textile worker and veteran of World War II, Melville Charles Cavers at his home at the age of 78 years on May 25, 2001. The son of Thomas Edgar Cavers and Bessie (McNabb) Cavers, Mr. Cavers was born in Almonte on July 23, 1922 and was educated in Appleton at Ramsay SS#12 school. In addition to his work and World War II service, Mr. Cavers was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 in Almonte, and a lifetime resident of this area. He is survived by sister Agnes Tudor of Toronto and her children Sharon, Robert (Patricia), and Stephen (Mary Ann); sister-in-law. Barbara Cavers (Harold) and her son Glen (Julie); and great-nieces and great-nephews David, Stephanie, Melissa, Steven, Laura, Greg and Kyle. Mr. Cavers was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Frank and Harold. He was also a close friend of Queenie Barr and her family. Funeral services took place at the chapel of the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home in Almonte on May 28 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ken Robinson officiating. Pallbearers were Delbert Barr. Shaun Barr, Brad Barr. Jack Hudson, Charlie Kitts and Johnny O'Connell. of Almonte, age 89 years.

Beloved wife and best friend for 64 years of John L. "Jack" Virgin. Much loved and respected mother Paul (Rhonda), David (Kathryn) and Mark (Ivan). Loved Grandma of Sean (Laurie Dalton), Kyle (Kristina Myers), Blake (Leslie), Jamieson (Amanda), Matthew (Rebecca Reinhart), Rebecca Littau (late Dustin), Bradley (Yael Wexler), and Kelly Riggs (Christopher). Loving Great-grandmother to Sophia, Brianna, Grayson, Mackenzie & Clara. Florence was the daughter of the late Victor & Gladys Kellough and is survived by her sisters; Jean King (late Douglas), Cynthia Stuart (Harold) and Carol James (Ronald). She is also survived by many loved nieces & nephews and their families.

Florence was a proud graduate of the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1952. She nursed at the Old Almonte General Hospital before joining her husband as a partner in J. L. Virgin Insurance, a successful local general insurance firm until retiring in 1993.

Florence was an active volunteer serving on many church and community committees and boards but was especially proud of her time on the Almonte General Hospital Board and the T V Ontario board. She was a long time member of the I.O.D.E., Captain Hooper Chapter. Florence enjoyed many treasured days and nights at their cottage on White Lake in the company of her family and many friends.

Florence's family would like to thank Dr. Graeme McKillop and Dr. Susie Quackenbush and especially the Old Mill staff at Fairview Manor for their exceptional compassionate care and love during her time there and most especially in her final days.
