In Ramsay, June 3rd, Marion McFarlane relict of the late James Neilson, aged 77 years.

1900, Friday June 8, The Almonte Gazette front page
    Mrs James Neilson
After six months' illness from a gradual breaking-up of the system owing to age Mrs James Neilson passed to her reward on Sunday forenoon last, at the homestead on the 11th line of Ramsay. Deceased was esteemed by a large circle of friends for the womanly graces that adorned her life, and her death is deeply regretted. Mrs Neilson (nee Marion McFarlane) was a daughter of the late Matthew McFarlane, and was one of the first children born in the neighbourhood in the pioneer days, her birth taking place on the Aikenhead farm, a short distance up the Mississippi, Oct 7th, 1822 ? a year or so after the arrival of the first settlers of Ramsay. She was therefore in her 78th year. In 1845 she linked her fortunes with those of Mr Neilson, and after nearly half-a-century of happy married life Mr N. died in January, 1893. Nine children were born to them seven of whom survive, viz: Mrs David Forgie, of Cleveland; Mrs (Rev) J. Wilkie, on Indore, Central India ? now home on a visit; Matthew, C.E., of St John, N.B.; John, Misses Sarah and Mary, on the homestead; and Miss Jessie, of Cleveland, Maggie died many years ago, and William G. (M.P.P. for Kootenay, B.C.) died at the homestead in January, 1899. With the exception of Matthew, who ha been in Jamaica since February, all of the surviving children were with their mother when the end came, Mrs Wilkie having arrived from Toronto a week earlier. Miss Jessie Neilson on Friday, and Mrs Forgie on Saturday. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, from the homestead to the eighth line cemetery, and was very large one. The services were conducted by Rev R.J. Hutcheon, M.A., pastor of St Andrew's church of which decease had long been an exemplary member. The mourning households have the sympathy of their many friends.

The C.C. Says: Mr Robert Anderson died at his residence on Bell Street on New Year's morning. Until the last two years he enjoyed the most perfect health, being able up to that period to defend the strong citadel of his heart against all the potentates of death, but at that time grippe made and impression, and slowly consumed the splendid constitution. The deceased was born at Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland, in 1816, where his parents, Wm Anderson and Margaret McFarlane, lived and died, each at the ripe old age and highly esteemed by all who were intimately acquainted with them. In his early years Mr Anderson studied medicine some time. But that profession not being to his liking he gave it up. and having a natural aptitude for drawing and designing, concluded to study the art of pattern drawing for the printer's use in the stamping of designs upon calico fabrics. Having served his apprenticeship successfully he adopted the calling as a means for earning a livelihood. He crossed the Atlantic in 1848 in the ship "Favorite," being nine weeks on the voyage, and came to Almonte, where his brother Matthew had already settled. Not finding employment in his profession in Almonte he engaged with the late William Peden, of Carleton Place, as a general book-keeper and salesman Severing his connection with Mr Peden he drifted back to Almonte and started in business for himself which he conducted for a number of years. Disposing of his business in Almonte, he returned to Carleton Place and lived here for about thirty years. In December 1854, he married Catherine, third daughter of the late Robert McFarlane of Almonte. The widow, three daughters namely, Mrs Adam Graham, of Peterboro, Mrs Hugh M. Williams, and Mrs Dr. Fisher, of Carleton Place, and two sons, William of Havelock, and Robert M., of Ottawa, remain to mourn his loss. Mr Anderson lived to a good old age and was able to enjoy, as he did most thoroughly, the companionship of his devoted partner to the last, and to see his children thriving wonderfully. He was often called on to do the engrossing of public documents, and took pleasure in responding, invariably achieving works of art. His later years were spent largely in the loved seclusion of his cosy home, where the charms of his gracious personality never failed to delight all who pass under his influence.

    The Late Mrs Ann McFarlane?/b?
Died at her late residence, in the Springfield section of town, on the morning of the 1st, inst., Ann McFarlane, wife of our respected townsman, Mr Jas McFarlane, in the 60th year of her age. After a lingering illness of some months, consequent upon a protracted attack of chronic diarrhoea, finally resulting in stomach and intestinal catarrh, at times quite painful and continuously debilitating, until at length her exhausted physical constitution succumbed to the prostration, when her spirit returned to God who gave it. Deceased bore her trouble with a quiet Christian resignation, emanating from her hope and implicit trust in the resurrection to a blessed state of immortality, and that solely in and through the merits and atoning sacrifice of the Crucified One. She was throughout her life what might not inaptly be styled a fair specimen of a plain Scotch woman, at no time aspiring to be known in society, never being desirous of intruding into the company of those she considered to be above her station and walk in life, nevertheless, sensitive withal, yet always cultivating and evincing the same kindly disposition to her circle of friends and acquaintances, of a congenial temperament as to simplicity of manner and a honest Christian walk and conversation. The deceased was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and came to Canada with her parents, the late George and Helen McFarlane, of Springfield Farm, and her brother, D. McFarlane (still resident on the farm), in the year 1841, being then in her eleventh year, and, although then so young, she retained throughout her life a lively and loving retrospect of her dear "Auld Scotia" with it mountains and glens. She leaves in her family circle her husband and two sons, Malcolm and Albert G., and one daughter, Florence J., to mourn her loss to them as a dutiful wife, and a very kindly affectionate mother. We feel sure that many kind friends in this locality sympathize with them in their present bereavement. ? COM.
The GAZETTE joins a host of sympathising friends in tendering to the bereaved husband and friends its sincere sympathy for the sad loss they have sustained. Mrs McFarlane had been known to almost everyone in Almonte as a genuine Christian, a loving wife and a devoted and anxious mother. The funeral on Monday last was largely attended. The Rev Mr Grant, of St Andrew's church, conducted the services in the house and at the grave, and the pall-bearers were Messrs, R. Cameron, Jas Snedden, N. Stevenson, Jas Neilson, Jas Robertson and John Paul.

    The Late Mrs D. Galbraith?/b?
With deep regret we have to announce the death on Tuesday evening last, (at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr Thomas Houston, 6th con. Ramsay) of Janet McFarlane, relict of Daniel Galbraith, Esq., in her 75th year. Deceased had caught cold a week prior to her death, and in spite of everything that could be done for her by medical skill and the devoted attention of her relatives the spirit left its earthly tenement. News of Mrs Galbraith's demise was received with sorrow on all sides, as she was well known throughout the county, and was greatly esteemed for her qualities of head and heart. Deceased was the eldest child of the late Robert McFarlane. She was born in Scotland in 1821, an when a babe not many weeks old she left the old land with her parents for Canada, they being among the first settlers of these parts. In the fifties she married the late Daniel Galbraith, who for thirty years was one of Lanark county's most prominent and useful public men, filling the most important positions in the gift of the people during the greater part of that time; and his death on Dec. 17th, 1879, created universal sorrow. During her husband life Mrs Galbraith ever proved an able helpmate, and by her hospitality and geniality won a wide circle of warm friends. Seven children are left to mourn the loss of an affectionate and indulgent mother. They are: Mrs Andrew Houston, Mrs Thos. Houston, Mrs Robert Black and Miss Nellie Galbraith of Ramsay; Miss Kate Galbraith and Mrs Thompson Elliott, of Carberry, N.W.T.; and Mr Robert A. Galbraith, of Parry Sound. Deceased was a sister of Messrs. Matthew, James and Robert L. McFarlane, and Mrs A. Baird Appleton, Mrs Wm. Stephenson and Mrs R. Anderson, Carleton Place. James MacFarlane
Last Friday morning Mr James MacFarlane closed his long and active career on this earth and Almonte lost one of its oldest citizens. Mr MacFarlane, who had passed 84 years had lived nearly all of that long period in Almonte and vicinity and until his eyesight failed, some twelve years ago, had always been a man of more than common energy and progressiveness of spirit. He was a son of the late Robert MacFarlane, who died in 1885. He was born on the Broad Lea farm, just above the Elmsdale mill on the C.P.R. rightof- way long before there was any C.P.R., on Dec 1, 1825. He learned the trade of harness making, which he followed for a few years. In 1850 he was married to Ann MacFarlane, who predeceased him in 1890. Shortly afterward he was seized with the gold fever and joined the rush to California in the early fifties, but he only remained a few years, returning to Almonte, where he took possession of the Henry Cavers farm, which he worked until about 1863. About this time the Brockville and Ottawa railway came to Almonte and Mr MacFarlane entered the employ of the company, as baggageman and sectionman, which positions he held until 1883. He was then night watchman for the Wylie mill for a number of years, being forced to retire in 1898, when his eyesight failed, and for the past twelve years he had been totally blind, an affliction which he bore with patient resignation, being at all times an interesting narrator of the stories of early days. He has one brother, R.L., a fire ranger at Warren, Ont, living, and one sister, Mrs Anderson, of Carleton Place. Of his own family, two sons, Messrs Albert and Malcolm, survive. The funeral on Monday was a gathering of many friends paying the final tribute of respect to a long and interesting life. Interment was made in the 8th line cemetery.

James married Ann Paterson McFarlane in 1854. Ann (daughter of George McFarlane and Helen McFarlene) was born on 24 Apr 1831 in Glasgow City, Lanarkshire, Scotland; died on 1 Nov 1890 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 3 Nov 1890 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. ?b?
    Matthew McFarlane
?/b?A pioneer settler of Ramsay, widely, known and greatly respected, passed away suddenly last Friday morning, when M. Matthew McFarlane joined the majority in the great beyond. For a couple of years he has been troubled with heart affection and although at times it seemed as if with the burden of four-score years against him he must go down in the unequal contest, yet his wonderful vitality again and again brought him through, and he was able to be around and enjoy fairly good health until about ten days before his death, when he was again taken ill, but though confined to bed his condition was not considered at all critical. On Friday morning he seemed as well as usual, and had partaken of his customary morning meal, but about 9:30 he was taken suddenly worse and expired in a few minutes. The deceased was born December, 1822, on the homestead farm adjoining Almonte, on which his brother Mr. Robt. L. McFarlane, lived for many years. He was a son of the late Robert McFarlane, who came to Canada in 1821 and settled on the homestead. He was married in March, 1845, to Mary Snedden, who died twelve years ago. After his marriage he bought the farm where he since lived from the late James King. He has three brothers and four sisters, four of whom survive: Mrs Robt. Anderson, Carleton Place; Mrs Andrew Baird, Appleton; Mrs Jas. McFarlane, Almonte, and Mr Robert L. McFarlane, of Warren, Ont. The late Mrs Daniel Galbraith, of Ramsay, the late Mrs Wm Stephenson, of Carleton Place, and the late John McFarlane were also members of his father's family. He had five sons an five daughters. Eight of his family survive him: David S., of Carleton Place; John on the homestead; Mrs S. Young, Bennie's Corners; Mrs M.C. McFarlane, Almonte; M.J., Almonte, and Miss Aggie and Mrs A. Anderson, Bennie's Corners; Tena on the homestead. Two sons, Robert and William, predeceased him. There are nineteen grandchildren. The late Mr. McFarlane was of retiring disposition, and though in an unobtrusive way he wielded quite an influence in the community, he would never consent to accept any public municipal position. ?b?Mrs Wm Smith?/b?
Mrs Wm Smith, of the 11th line, Ramsay, had been in poor health for several weeks, though able to be about the house at times, and was not thought to be seriously ill, but on Wednesday morning death came and ended a long and useful life. Mrs Smith, who was in her 77th year, was Jean Neilson, daughter of the late John Neilson, and was born on the 12th line of Ramsay, one of a family of nine, of whom only one, Mrs Gavin Hamilton, is now living. The deceased was married to Mr Smith over fifty years ago, and has since lived on the farm upon which she died. The family born to them consisted of five sons, one of whom died in infancy, and three daughters. The daughters are Misses Agnes and Jennie, at home, and Miss Mary, who follows her profession as trained nurse in Ottawa, but who was home and tended her mother in her declining health. The sons who attained manhood are William, who is dead, John at Winnipeg; Robert, at Cornwall, and James, who died a year or two ago. Mrs Smith was of a quiet and retiring disposition, but her kind and motherly nature endeared her to many who bear testimony to her willingness to sacrifice her won comfort and convenience if by doing so she could help a needy friend or neighbour. The funeral takes place on Friday to the eighth line Cemetery. The bereaved family and friends have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.

For nearly half-a-century a missionary in India under the Presbyterian Church in Canada, Mrs Agnes Wilson Wilkie, widow of Rev Dr Jno Wilkie, died July 16th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs J.A. Brown, 67 Chaplin Crescent, Toronto, in her 96th year. Following her husband's retirement 15 years ago, Dr and Mrs Wilkie left India to make their home in Canada. Dr Wilkie died on the journey and was buried in the Red Sea. Mrs Wilkie, then 80 years of age, continue her journey to Toronto, where she had lived since with her daughter. Mrs Wilkie was born in Almonte and taught school here for a number of years prior to her marriage to Dr Wilkie who was teaching at the same time in Almonte High School. It was some remark of Rev McKenzie, then Presbyterian minister in Almonte, which caused Dr Wilkie to take up foreign mission work. Following their marriage, Dr. and Mrs Wilkie went at one to India, where they served as pioneer missionaries in Indore and Jhansi. Dr Wilkie, from funds collected by himself, built Indore College now affiliated with Calcutta University, as he believed the best results could be obtained by Christianizing the youth of India. Bible study was a essential part of every student's program. After establishing a great plant at Indore, Dr and Mrs Wilkie went to Jhansi and began educational work there, Boys' and Girls' Boarding Schools were built and an industrial school and Model Farm were established. Massy Harris and Australian plows were shipped out and also other agricultural machinery and farming was carried out, under an expert, on progressive, modern lines. The converts were then placed on these farms. Failing health forced Dr Wilkie's retirement to Canada 15 years ago, but he ever reached his homeland. Since coming to Toronto, Mrs Wilkie has retained her interest in missionary work and corresponded extensively until two years ago, with missionaries all over the world, whom she had met on her journey back and forth. In spite of travelling over most of the world, she loved above all places, her home town Almonte and was heard to say, when she arrived in Canada "Now I shall die happy, because I can be buried in Almonte." It was there she was laid to rest on July 19th in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. She is survived by her sister, Miss Jessie Neilson, Almonte and one son and two daughters, Mrs T. Graham Mitchell, Australia; Rev J. H. Wilkie, Cawnpore, India, and Mrs J.A. Brown, Toronto. Also surviving are two grandsons, Spencer Wilkie in the American Army and Neilson Wilkie in the American Navy; two grand-daughters Janet and Joan Wilkie, Toronto, one grandson Donald Mitchell and a granddaughter Helen Mitchell in Australia. The late Mrs Wilkie had a very charming and gracious personality and made friends easily among all classes of people. In India she was called "The Angel of Jhansi."

The deceased, from being laid aside so long, was not, perhaps so well known as her sister who formerly taught school in Almonte, and is now the wife of the Rev Mr Wilkie, who was also one time assistant high school teacher here. ?b?Death of Mr W.G. Neilson, M.P.P.?/b?

A Busy and Useful Life Ended in its Prime

    ? Biographical Sketch ?
The Funeral a Splendid Tribute to a Popular Young Man
When the GAZETTE went to press last week Mr W.G. Neilson, of Calgary, member for North-East Kootenay in the British Columbia legislature, was lying at the residence of his brother, Mr John Neilson, 11th line Ramsay, Hopelessly ill from oedema of the lungs. He had returned with Mrs Neilson from Montreal on Tuesday, January 3rd, after being in bed for a week with grippe, and during the drive out into the country he caught cold. His condition became so alarming the on Thursday Dr Roddick, of Montreal, was summoned for consultation with the attending physicians. Dr R. arrived by the Soo train at 2:53 on Friday, but two hours earlier Mr Neilson succumbed, to the regret of a host of warm friends, not only here and in the far west, but wherever he was known. Although he had been a resident of the west for the past twelve years, the grief exhibited by the people of Almonte and around his old home in Ramsay at his untimely death was as great as if he had been a continuous resident of these parts. The late Mr Neilson was born in Ramsay in 1862, and was in his 37th year. After attending the Almonte high school for a number of years, he left home in 1881, at the age of 19, and for a year he was engaged as rodman in the engineering department of the construction of the Kingston & Pembroke railway. In the spring of 1882 he went to Winnipeg, and the quick and ready business turn which was one of his strongest characteristics soon secured him an important position ? that of having charge of the forwarding of supplies from Winnipeg to the end of the C.P.R. track. A letter about this time from Mr Burdick contractor, to the late Mr James Neilson (father of deceased), show the high esteem in which he was held by his employers. Mr B. congratulated Mr Neilson on having such a noble son, and says he has unlimited confidence in him and entrust him with all his business secrets. Later on Mr Neilson was given full charge of all the stores in the mountains, amounting at times in value to half-a-million dollars. Mr Neilson remained in the employ of the C.P.R. contractors until connection was made with the Pacific end of the line. In December, 1885, he came east and was married on January 13th, 1886, to Miss Jennie Anderson, of Prospect, Beckwith. In the spring of 1886 he went west again, and had charge of all the supplies, etc., for Ross & McDermott, contractors for the erection of snow-sheds on the C.P.R. line in the Selkirk Mountains. On the completion of this contract in December, Mr Neilson came east again, and took up house in Almonte, where he lived until the spring of 1887, when he received an appointment on the "International Railway of Maine," or what is sometimes called the C.P.R. short line. His work there, as in previous years, was at first connected with supply department, but he afterward had charge of the tracklaying on the Brownville Division. On the completion of the short line in December, 1888, Mr Neilson returned to Almonte, where he remained until the spring of 1889, when he was appointed secretary-treasurer and superintendent of the offices of the Columbia River Lumber Company, with headquarters at Beaver, British Columbia. He was also postmaster at Beaver, and justice of the peace. In 1891 he was appointed manager of the C.R. Lumber Company, with full charge of the whole business. This position he held at the time of his death, and during his term of management the business increased greatly. His employers, Messrs Ross & Mackenzie speak in the highest terms of Mr Neilson. At home, and among his old schoolmates and neighbours, Mr Neilson was always known as a bright, happy, manly, modest fellow ? one of the kind with a ring of the true metal; and as a business man his career was characterized by honesty, trustworthiness and more then ordinary business talent. That the people among whom his lot was cast were not unappreciative of his ability was shown by his election last June as the representative of one of the Kootenays in the legislature, and while here he was anxiously looking forward to his first session in that body, being ambitious to serve his constituents to advantage; but Providence ordained that he should never take his seat there, and he died the very day set apart for the opening of the new legislature, Another mournful reminder of "what shadows we are and what shadows we pursue." ....... The funeral took place on Sunday at 2 p.m. from the homestead in Ramsay to the eighth line cemetery. It was one of the largest ever seen in this neighbourhood, in spit of the disagreeable weather..........We join this whole community in tendering Mrs Neilson and family, the aged mother and the brothers and sisters of the deceased our deepest sympathy in the sad a sudden sorrow through which they have been called to pass.

At her father's residence, Mount Pleasant, Ramsay, on the 13th June, of nervous fever, in the 26th year of her age, Jane, wife of David S. McFarlane, 5th concession Ramsay, and daughter of David and Janet Aikenhead, of Ramsay. Deceased departed this life after a short but most painful illness; yet throughout her sore trouble she always remembered, in the intervals of cessation from extreme suffering that her bodily afflictions were allowed by her Heavenly Father, and prayed that she might remain patient and resigned until the end; and felt assured that in His own good time she would be released from all her trials here, and would enter upon that rest that remaineth for all those that love the Lord Jesus in sincerity and truth. She oft asserted to friends by her bedside that she had no desire for a longer extension of her term of existence, and seemed to feel confident from the very commencement of her ailment that she would never again be restored to her wonted health and strength, and trusting solely to the merits of the Blessed Redeemer, she felt pleases to anticipate the change through death to life eternal. Her assured confidence of a blessed resurrection must have been most cheering to her infirm mother waiting by her dying bed, who thereby beheld the fruits of her endeavours to instill into the minds of her children in their earlier years the "fear of the Lord," so that when their term of life here expires those words of inspiration may be applicable to them, namely, "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, &c." The sorrowing parents, husband and friends have the sympathy of a large circle of friends and acquaintances in the neighbourhood, in their bereavement. And this was evinced by the large attendance of fifty vehicles on the 15th, to accompany the remains to their last resting place the burying ground on the 8th concession line Ramsay, where they were deposited, after an appropriate burial service at the grave by the deceased's pastor, the Rev John Bennett, of Almonte.

    Obit. ? Mr Wm Anderson
It was with sincere regret that the many friends in Almonte and vicinity learned of the early death of Mr Wm Anderson, on the 24th, at Wetaskewin, Alberta, from paralysis, he was so well and favourably known all through the valley owing to his long connection with the C.P.R. Deceased was born in 1853 at Bennie's Corners, his father being the late Wm Anderson, who will be remembered only by the older settlers, as he passed away some 27 years ago. His mother, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Peters, died about ten years ago. The family consisted of two brothers, John and Alexander, both dead, and two sisters living, Mrs Alex Gourlay (nee Mary) at Lavoy and Mrs Sam Reid (nee Maggie) at Methven, Man. Mr Anderson remained of the farm until 1885 when he entered the employ of the C.P.R., remaining with that company until about a year ago when he was obliged to retire through bad health and went west. His long service with the C.P.R. gave him a wide circle of friends all through this section, who admired him for his unfailing courtesy. He leaves his wife (nee Margaret Austen) and three sons, William G. and John P. at Wetaskewin, and Chas. Alex. in Ottawa. The funeral Wednesday was the final tribute of sympathizing friends who were present in large numbers. The following tribute, from one who knew him well, gives a word portrait of the man: "Willie Anderson, as he was familiarly called by Ramsay people, was a son of the late Wm. Anderson of Bennie's Corners. Early in his life he took up railroading, and for many years was conductor on the Ottawa- Pembroke local. Among railway men he was much liked for his cheery disposition, his level-headed common sense, and his remarkable gifts as a conversationalist and litterateur. Few men, even among the college-bred, have such intimate acquaintance with the best English prose and poetry as he possessed; while his knowledge of Macaulay's history and essays could not well have been more profound and loving critical. Like every other lover of what is deep in thought or beautiful in expression, he loved his Bible; and he proved by an upright life that his regard for it was not merely intellectual.

William married Margaret Elizabeth Austin in 1886. Margaret was born on 18 Apr 1858 in Seymour, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada; died on 27 Jun 1927 in Ottawa Municipality, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 28 Jun 1927 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. ?b?Robert A. Galbraith Died This Morning?/b?
Member of Prominent Ramsay Family Succumbs After Long Illness
Mr Robert Ayr Galbraith died early this morning at his home in Carleton Place. He was 62 years of age. He was a native of Ramsay, a son of the late Daniel Galbraith, at one time member of Parliament for North Lanark, and was educated in Almonte. Few men were better known. The Galbraith family has been identified with Ramsay almost since its establishment as a township. Mr Galbraith had been in failing health for some years. Last winter was spent in California in the hope of improvement, but he gained little. The death of his son, Capt Murray Galbraith, the distinguished aviator, who was killed at Camp Borden last year, was a severe blow to him. In his younger days he was a prominent athlete. His business was that of a prospector and railroad construction engineer, and he enjoyed to a marked degree the confidence of those with whom he was associated in business. He retired a number of years ago. He leaves a widow and one daughter, Isabel. Mrs Galbraith's maiden name was Elizabeth Bayne. She is a sister of Mrs John D. Taylor, of Almonte. A sister Miss Nellie Galbraith, nursed the deceased in his last illness.

    ?b?Robt A. Galbraith Passes?/b?
In the early hours of Thursday last, Dec 29th, Robert Ayr Galbraith, who had been in delicate held for a long time, passed quietly to rest at his home on High street. Born in Ramsay, son of the late Daniel Galbraith, Robert was well known throughout this entire section. As a boy he was a clever athletic and on the ball field or at cricket and later at the ice as a curler his prowess was well known. He was always a good sport and always played the game as to win the respect of his opponents as well as that of his own side. After leaving the homestead he drifted to Northern Ontario, where he became interested in railway work and prospecting and made good in the development of the new portion of the province. Some years ago he contested North Lanark for the Legislature making a very good run, but did not succeed in capturing the seat. He is survived by his wife, formerly Elizabeth Bayne, daughter of the late Alexander Bayne, and one daughter, Isabel. His only son, Captain Murray Galbraith, who distinguished himself as an aviator in the war, met a tragic death at Camp Borden last year, which was a severe blow to the father, who even then was in poor health. In religion Mr Galbraith was a Presbyterian, a member of St Andrew's congregation, and the services at the funeral on Saturday morning were conducted by Rev A.R. Gibson. Interment was made in the 8th Line Ramsay cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs William and Robert Baird, J.D. Taylor, Robt Black, R.M. Anderson and Dr F. Fisher.
