A highly respected resident of Ramsay, Mrs William Armstrong. passed away at her home on the 10th line on Monday, August 31st, at the age of 82 years. About two years ago she suffered a stroke and since that time her health had been seriously impaired. Mrs Armstrong's maiden name was Elizabeth McCann, second daughter of the late James McCann and Mary Kemp, and all her life was spent in this community, where she was beloved by all. Fifty-four years ago she was married to William Armstrong who survives. To this union were born four daughters and one son, three of whom survive, namely, Mary, Mrs Wesley McCann, Pakenham; Jessie at home, William James of Brockville. Two daughters Margaret, Mrs Andrew Kirk and Rebecca, Mrs Andrew McPhail predeceased her. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs W. Allison, Winnipeg, Man. Prior to church union Mrs Armstrong was a Presbyterian and since that time she was a member of the United Church at Blakeney. The funeral which was largely attended was held on Wednesday, Sept 2nd at 2.30 p.m. from the family residence, Rev G.D. Empy, officiating. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs Robert McPhail, William Smithson, William Voyce, Peter McDougall, Gordon Sadler and Edward Armstrong.

There passed away a former highly respected resident of Almonte in the person of Mrs Robert McIntosh, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Jas A. Wilson, 133 Langley Ave, Toronto, on Saturday, July 16th. The deceased was born in the township of Ramsay about 75 years ago. She was the daughter of the late James and Mary McCann. She was married to Robert McIntosh who predeceased her about 30 years ago. To this union was born six children. Her youngest son Harry, served in Major Bell's company, and was killed in the late war. She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons and three daughters, William of Spy Hill, Sask, and Robert of Toronto; Mrs M.J. Gilmour of Ottawa, and Mrs John Johnston of Toronto, and also two sisters, Mrs William Armstrong of Ramsay, and Mrs William Allison of Winnipeg. The funeral took place upon the arrival of the Toronto train on Tuesday morning, July 19th. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk cemetery.

The sudden death on Tuesday morning of Rebecca McCann, wife of Mr William Lawrie, and one of the most highly esteemed women of this district came as a great shock to her many friends and acquaintances. She had apparently been in her accustomed good health up to the time of the unexpected illness with which she was stricken. Born and brought up near Almonte, the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James McCann of Ramsay Township, she was married to Mr Lawrie in 1899. They lived for some time in Ramsay Township and on Mr Lawrie's retiring from active work he purchased the fine residence on Mitcheson street, Almonte, where the family have since resided. In her own home she was a devoted wife and mother and always an inspiration for good and her kindly presence will be missed by a large circle of friends. The surviving relatives to mourn her loss besides her husband are two daughters, Mary V. (Mrs Roy Gibbons of Ottawa), and Anne at home, Three sisters, Mrs Wm Armstrong, Ramsay; Mrs Robert McIntosh, Toronto, and Mrs Wm Allison, Winnipeg. The funeral, at which sincere tribute was paid in a very large attendance, took place on Thursday afternoon at 2.30, from the family residence, Mitcheson street, to the Auld Kirk cemetery. Impressive services were conducted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon of Bethany United Church, of which deceased was a devout member. The pallbearers were, Jas A. Wilson, Toronto; R. McIntosh, Toronto; Jos Crawford, Carleton Place; Roy Gibbons, Ottawa; R. Burnside and W.C. Pollock. The many beautiful floral tributes and the many letters and messages of sympathy testified to the high esteem in which Mrs Lawrie was held by her many friends and acquaintances, and the deepest sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved husband and family. Relatives from out of town in attendance were, Mrs Robert McIntosh and son Robert, of Toronto; Mr and Mrs Campbell of Carleton Place; Mr and Mrs Jas McCann and Mrs G. Sadler, Pakenham, Mrs M.J. After a very trying illness of some months; duration, Mr. John Mccann, one of Ramsay's well known residents, passed to his reward last Thursday at the early age of 44 years and 8 months. Deceased, who was the only son of Mr. Jas McCann, was a quiet retiring disposition, and the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him in life was shown saturday in the large number that followed the remains to their last resting place. about fourteen years of age he married Mary Agnes Gemmill, daughter of the late Jas Gemille of Almonte, who survives with a family of three daughters and one son to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father. He is also survived by his aged father and six sisters, Mrs Robt. Crawford, Carleton Place; Mrs Robt. McIntosh, Almonte; Mrs Wm. Allison, Winnipeg: Mrs Wm. Wallace, Preston; Mrs Wm. Final tribute to the memory of Mrs Andrew Kirk was paid by her many friends at the funeral which was held on Sunday afternoon from her late residence, corner of Martin and Edward Streets, to St. John's Presbyterian Church and Auld Kirk cemetery for burial. The funeral service was conducted by her pastor Rev A.J. Fowlie and favourite hymns of the deceased were sung by the choir. The pallbearers were Messrs George Arnott, William Templeman, Lloyd Watson, Jack Gilmour, George Lowry and Alie Stewart. The many floral tributes showed the high esteem in which she was held.
Although she was in poor health for the past year her death at her home last Thursday morning came as a great shock to her many friends.
She was a devoted member of of the choir and Ladies' Aid Society of the Presbyterian Church and she will be greatly missed by these organizations.
Born in Ramsay, 49 years ago, she was the second daughter of Mr and Mrs William Armstrong. She married Andrew Kirk, 23 years ago, and since then has made her home in Almonte. Left to mourn besides her husband and son Melville, are her parents, two sisters, Mrs Wesley McCann of Pakenham and Miss Jessie Armstrong at home and one brother, James of Brockville.

The many friends of Mrs Andrew McPhail were shocked to learn that she had passed away on Thursday morning after an illness extending over only a few days, from erysipelas which developed into blood poisoning. Deceased, who was only in her 24th year, was formerly Rebecca Jane Armstrong, third daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Armstrong, and she had by her kind and lovable disposition won the admiration of those who knew her. Besides her husband she is survived by her parents, three sisters and one brother. to whom is extended the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends on their sad bereavement, The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock to the eighth line cemetery and a lengthy cortege accompanied by remains to their last resting place.
