Final Tribute Paid To William McEwen
Well-known Ramsay Twp. Farmer Passes Away In His 83rd Year.
Final tribute was paid to the memory of William McEwen, 7th line, Ramsay, at his funeral held Tuesday in Bethany United church Almonte. Rev W.J. Scott conducted the service. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mr McEwen was a member of one of the pioneer families of this district, his father being the first white male born in Ramsay township. He had been in ill health only short time and died on Saturday night in his sleep. He was in his 83rd year. Born in Ramsay the son of the late Marion Sutherland and William McEwen he was educated at the 7th line school and farmed all his life in that district. In 1904 he married the former Emma Turner, who survives. Mr McEwen was a member of the Jovial Sports Baseball Club, a thriving organization in the Ramsay district in early days. Surviving besides his widow are two sons, Melvin of Hamilton, and William of Ramsay; one brother and one sister, Robert of Fort George, B.C. and Mrs Albert Jarvis (Elizabeth) of Silverton, B.C.

William married Emma Turner in 1904. Emma (daughter of John S. Turner and Roseilla Barber) was born on 30 Sep 1878 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 11 Sep 1974 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. McEWEN, Melvin Sterling ? In hospital, Almonte, on Monday, February 19th, 1962. Beloved husband of Marjory Logan and dear son of Emma Turner and the late William McEwen and brother of Wilbert of Almonte. In his 56th year. Service was held at the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin Street, Almonte, on Wednesday February 21st at 2.30 p.m. Entombment Auld Kirk Cemetery Vault. Burial in the Spring.

Melvin Sterling McEwen
There passed away in the Almonte General Hospital on Feb 19th, 1962, Melvin Sterling McEwen, eldest son of Emma Turner and the late Wm McEwen and brother of Wilbert McEwen of Ramsay. He was born 55 years ago on the McEwen farm, 7th line of Ramsay and was educated at S.S. No 6 and the Almonte High School. He spent most of his life as an auto mechanic. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Feb 21st and was largely attended by friends from Pembroke, Bromley, Kinburn, Carleton Place, Ottawa, White Lake, Hamilton, Ancaster and California. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

McEWEN ? In hospital, Almonte, Ontario, on Monday, April 15, 1974, Wilbert William McEwen. Beloved husband of Margaret Jean Giles; dear father of Murray, Brockville; Douglas, Smiths Falls; Michael, Ottawa and Greg at home; also survived by his mother, Mrs William McEwen. Predeceased by his father William McEwen and a brother Melvin. In his 58th year. Rested at the Kerry Funeral Home, 154 Elgin Street, Almonte, for service on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Wilbert married Margaret Jean Giles in 1938. Margaret (daughter of Charles Hartley Giles and Jeanetta May Kellough) was born in 1916; died on 8 Oct 1994 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 10 Oct 1994 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
