  	From The Vancouver Sun Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 09 Jun 1949, Thu ? Page 3 DEATH came today to Dr. C. Wesley Prowd, 66, director of radiology at St. Paul's Hospital. One of British Columbias outstanding medical men, Dr C Wesley Prowd, 1412 Balfour, died early today of a heart attack. He died in St Paul's Hospital, the institution where, as director of radiology, he had battled indefatigably for cancer sufferers. He had been on St. Paul's staff for 39 years. Dr Prowd, recognized in the medical profession as the "best X-ray man in B.C.," brought the first supply of radium into the province in 1915. He was also recognized as an outstanding authority on the continent in the interpretation of X-ray pictures. Dr. Proud, who celebrated his 66th birthday only last Saturday, was taken ill Monday. Born in Ontario, he was graduated from the school of medicine, Toronto University, in 1908, and came to Vancouver at that time with three fellow graduates, Dr. G. H. Worthington, the late Dr. Walter Verral and the late Dr. G. E. Richards. Together, the four young doctors formed a clinic here and installed the first modern X-ray machine in St. Paul's Hospital in 1912. Dr. Prowd and Dr. Richards joined the hospital staff in 1910, Dr. Prowd later becoming director of radiology when Dr. Richards left for Toronto where he became professor at Toronto University and noted in cancer research before his death last year. A lover of outdoor life, Dr. Prowd was a life member and past president of the world-famous Banff Trail Riders and seldom missed a summer trail ride. He was twice president of Canadian Radiological Society; past president of Terminal City Club; member of the Vancouver Club and Point Grey Golf Club and director of the Western Life Assurance Company. He leaves his wife and two daughters, Pat and Barry, and two step-sons, Alan and William Eccles. Funeral services will be announced later.
